With the Mulroney GST refunds and food/rent exemptions, our VAT is a remarkable tax.

I guess , but not everyone is getting it, the 250 only applies to working Canadians, those retired or receiving other benefits like cpp or oas, or disability benefits are not getting a check...according to justin on todays media....those guys have already seen some sort of help , this is only for working people....Not that 250.00 dollars is going to make my X-mas merrier any ways...

And F8ck justin, this whole idea is from the NDP the liberals stole it and made it theirs.......and the NDP wanted  it to be all year round, and only for the basics, like food, kids clothing, home heating, and cell phone bills, which makes sense becasue everyone is hurting.....the liberals made it their own by adding in beer and sprits, toys and restaurants...but only for 2 months....the cost to Canadians is just over 6 bil...

So ya it beats getting kicked in the nuts by a frozen mukluk...but it's not liberals money, it is ours, and if you make 150K even 100 K a year are you really hurting, will that GST make a difference in your life style...

The provinces are asking what about their share of the GST are they still getting that or do they have to redo their financials as well, and will we be paying the piper later by higher provincial taxes to make up for this shortfall...

not to mention that most people buy their xmas presents early, by dec 14 most people are going to be finished shopping but nice try justin atleast your thinking about Canadians, just a little late tho...

At this point, I am aware it is just a prop to try and turn the Liberal Party's fortunes around. However, I am just praying the "other" guy does not come to power in our lifetime. 

 

PS...Trudeau did not cause record inflation. It's happening all over North America and Europe.

It's borrowed money so we will have to pay interest on it.

It's going to be a nightmare for small business/retailers to reprogram everything and then reprogram it again.

It's clearly designed to buy votes. The Liberals are borrowing $6.5 billion and throwing it on the mountain of debt they've already rung up, just to buy votes. In other words, they're using our money for campaign purposes.

It will likely cause a spike in inflation, delaying the bank of Canada's lowering of interest rates so that in the end it might actually cost us more than we get.

All money I pay in GST/HST at time of purcahse is my hard-earned money.  They're letting me keep more of my own money, then also sending me a cheque.

Of course they aren't sending us the $250 around Xmas when people need it, they're sending it in April after the 2024-25 government fiscal year is over so it doesn't count towards their budget this year so they can still show how nice their budget spending has been this year during the election campaign.

Seems like other people also hunted down every interpretation possible to make the announcement seem negative. Surprised that wasn't the top of the fold on Nazional Post.

No it isn't.
It was a PITA but I did it in a few hours for all 5 businesses we ran. Even the old cash register had two buttons to push to remove taxes. The accounting program had to check marks to remove and then click a f*cking mouse.
But nooooo, they want you to believe it's a huge process. Maybe they're ALL like we were and had to shell out for an upgrade of their ancient accounting program.

It's 2024 and every employee and manager out their would like you to believe clicking a mouse is a huge, expensive endeavour.

OMG the guy had to click WINTER instead of SUMMER in the refinery control room - gas HAS TO go up 10¢ a litre....
