Nothing pejorative here.  I myself have been known to bail hay for m'lord in exchange for his protection against the invading Goths...

What a good laugh I had. Ahh, the good old days of feudalism! It's always nice to reminisce about simpler times when all you needed was a strong back and a good lord to keep the invaders at bay. If only modern life were as straightforward, right? Doing the medieval musing? and feeling nostalgic for the days of yore?

Back to men dropping the classes.  Present day: do you feel COVID is having an impact on males and their experiences in higher education? It is an open question.

My Barber pointed it out that many of our Mutual acquaintances had dropped off the map, in my social group. We went through the biggest mental health challenge in generations with covid.

Our collective reaction has been to barely acknowledge that.

Higher education could be another manifestation of that impact.

I disagree. The reason men are dropping college classes is because they are being told how toxic they are with their "masculinity". They hear how patriarchal societies are evil and oppressive. How much stupidity do they think men are going to put up with?

Dropping Out of University in Response to the COVID-19 Pandemic

A French paper but shows the lapse of enrollment males vs females. Of course mental health is a BIG issue for students males and females returning to school after COVID - they are still suffering from loneliness, and social isolation and these variables have usually undesirable outcomes unless there are support systems.

Well, it is a perspective. The topic of masculinity and its portrayal in society can be polarizing. And one can argue that discussions around toxic masculinity and patriarchal structures might contribute to feelings of alienation among male students. This is not the only reason though to get the full picture why males are not enrolling or dropping out of college.

Quite provocative statements. You forgot to add doing the clothes, dishes...

Isn't easier to discuss how males and females can access education equally?. Your thoughts?

Or, better, how to discern the difference between cultural obstacles and what men / women 'naturally' gravitate to ?

I was reminded of the latter consideration when people were explaining why there are more men in positions of power, positions where physical strength and agression are required etc.

I feel that idealogues of left/right have to bend themselves into Gumby impersonators when trying to resolve principles of masculine/feminine "freedom" versus biological programming.

First step in the conversation might be trying to figure out who can actually discuss the topic without convulsing :D

A landmark decision on practices in Canada of what is fair and equitable, see the Meiorin case.  A firefighter who was awesome working as a firefighter until a test of physical fitness requirement was introduce that unfairly favored males.  Meiorin failed to meet a physical fitness test requirement.  While males overwhelming pass, overwhelmingly females failed.

Imagine paying tens of thousands of dollars to learn about why you're an evil oppressor and why you should hate yourself, then acquiring a piece of paper about as valuable as dog water.

I'm sure there's still many valuable degrees outside the arts and social sciences.

Business is also an arts degree. So is architecture, psychology.. remember, Jordan Peterson was a psych professor. Arts degrees demand a general approach, research and so on. There's value there.  The engineering programs I'm most familiar with consists of 4 years of solving puzzles in different areas. Same with computer science.

I would say one of the ills of society is we don't have enough leaders who can see the big picture, and actually lead us.

Anyway, don't quote culture, war fodder as evidence of social trends... It really undercuts your argument.

Ok not arts, the humanities then.  Most of the academic subjects dealing with people have been politicized to some extent or another by the tribal left and it will get worse if people don't resist the politicization.  True academics in these subjects are becoming an endangered species, more and more are becoming activists, and thus so are the subjects themselves.  Jordan Peterson is probably one of them as he's trying to fight against this leftwing politicization, thus becoming political himself.  Instead of focusing on objective research its become an political turf war.

You can call it fodder but it still exists in reality.  You're free to ignore reality.  The real fodder is the tribal politicization of everything that far-leftwing academics and students wish to push, and seek to tear down all the "oppressive power structures", including America and Western civilization itself.

We're at the point now where mere inequality of outcomes automatically equals injustice that needs to be remedied by official policies within so many large organizations, including our governments, because of this ideology.  I'm sure these policies are in your workplace as well, because if they aren't people will call that organization racist/sexist, and nobody wants to be accused of that.  This is part of the ideology that the Democrats (and Liberal Party) have embraced and part of what American voters seem to have rejected (i hope).

The JFK/Clinton/Obama type Democrats who were socially for equality of opportunity rather than equality of outcome are slowly being taken over.  Biden has been a puppet mouthpiece for "the new progressives", and you seem to have fallen in line too like a good soldier.  You're dismissed.

I'd love to hear some of your examples of true, non-political humanities academics.

This is an oppressive post.  I'm going to write a paper about it using an intersectional lens.

You should take a bunch of benzos like your hero instead.
