Interesting read, and not often you find such candor from a university professor. I wonder what blowback he'll get for mentioning names the way he did. Universities have become, in his words "matriarchal enterprise run by women for women, in pursuit of retribution for the patriarchy of the past". And men are tuning out and refusing to attend as the universities fill their administrative and academic ranks with female social justice warriors and fill their course catalogs with 'studies' courses that are anathema to men.

In the United States, women have long been outpacing men in college graduation, with the proportion of 25-34 year old females holding a bachelor’s degree eclipsing males in the same age category as far back as the mid-1990s. For the academic year that began in the fall of 2021, Statistics Canada reported that enrolment of women was a full 18 percentage points — almost a whole quintile — ahead of men.

What is abundantly clear is that men are steering clear of university programs, even in the traditionally masculine subject areas — and I don’t blame them. In conversation with my new chair in the department of chemical and physical sciences, Prof. Claudiu Gradinaru, I was told that even physics is now showing close to a 50-50 gender split. Women, thankfully, are no longer ashamed to split the atom.

But let me venture a reason for this widespread masculine detoxification of our universities. The pervasive and now deeply entrenched culture of kindness, empathy and academic limp-wristedness, the same culture that has led to so many students receiving accommodations for any number of largely imagined mental ailments, is anathema to the young, testosterone-charged male psyche, governed as it is by genetically embedded tendencies for boundary-pushing and risk-taking.

Given equal opportunity, woman though on average physically weaker but are a lot smarter and in both heats and brain (and looks) department are superior to men. Damn any stupid ideology which deprived them of equal rights.

Or maybe it's because the opportunities for women to seek higher education have greatly improved over the last few generations, not to mention women that have migrated from countries where women are actively discouraged from attending school and when given the opportunity jump on it.

As well, if I were just leaving High School today, I would most certainly study a trade. I recently read something that said that 15 years from now a plumbers income will be comparable to that of an MD and trades are still highly dominated by men.

Girls/women have always stayed in school longer. No surprise.

The thing though is, what do they do when they get out with their degree. Having a degree does not make you smart.

Seems the men take far more "advantage" of their degrees.

This is the result of a society that began devaluing men and maleness, associating it with toxicity.  Rather than celebrating natural feminine and male differences and strengths, and recognizing that the perpetuation of humanity requires a strong family unit, women have been sold a story that they should have as many positions as men in all fields and have as many leadership positions and as much pay even if leaving the workforce to have and raise children makes that harder for obvious reasons. Now far more women than men are in university.  I guess the men can play video games, take opioids, commit crime, go to jail, and commit suicide.

This is part of the same anti-fertility phenomenon as free birth control, abortion on demand up to the expected delivery date, MAID, porn, the affirmation of non-heterosexual and non-biological gender in our education, media, and policies, as well as the general feminization of men that’s related to the heavy presence of estrogen (and plastic that mimics estrogen) in our water supply combined with the social alienation of men as they have been redefined as toxic.

All of this is resulting in the literal extinction of people born and raised in modern western societies who aren’t raised with more traditional values.  Muslims generally are doing the opposite and having more kids.  Under current circumstances the future is theirs.  Atheists, feminists, and LGBTQ+ culture are the nail in the fertility coffin.  It has meant that the West has to gut its own traditions and cultures through mass immigration as it sterilizes itself.  If you grew up in Canada, you’ve probably been trained to believe in these self-destructive world views.

The university of the current day focuses on following orders and conformity and doing work diligently. This is something women tend to excel at...it is basically in their dna.

If instead you want universities to produce revolutionary ideas and scientific breakthroughs, then you need to have a lot of tolerance for antisocial behavior.

But this can also produce a lot of political instability, especially if the state is based upon a lot of glaring internal contradictions.

You can tell he's in a STEM field because he's a horrible writer. Maybe he should have spent less time padding his word count with so many cliches and pointless anecdotes and more time advancing a decent argument about why he thinks the shift in gender distribution in higher ed is a bad thing other than "it will make it harder to get dates."

What a bucket of slop.

Or don't bother because they can make more in the trades than they'd make with a degree.  An electrician is going to make a buttload more money in his lifetime than the Masters in Child, Youth and Family.

(I'm totally not speaking about my ex who, last time I checked, was still doing her PhD in something useless).

This is not anti male or pro feminism...it is equality at its end..

My Dad was real happy when equality was decided upon. He said Mom used to be the Boss and now we are equal...it is a huge promotion for me LOL

Or they could go to university, or college, do a trade, start a small business, get a job, travel, take up a meaningful hobby...

IDK why men choosing to be worthless pieces of shit is women's fault.

At the very least this teaches us that affirmative action must end.

It’s your fault when you joined the DEI pile on against men: “Down with the patriarchy” and all that blather.  Now our men are turning into women and there won’t be many tough guys left to rebuild the society you helped destroy.  🤷🏻‍♂️

Black Dog-Hardner, was it a difficult experience being castrated?  I’m sure there are support groups out there. Take heart.

There have been reports about the deterioration in male educational achievements for years, going right down through high school and grade school. Now we see very large 'inequality' to use the Left's term, in the numbers of males in universities and the general response of the Left here is "Meh, who gives a shit? Screw men. Women are smarter."

Which just shows the levels of hypocrisy the Left seems to have no difficulty with. Because if it were girls doing worse and worse in K-12 schools there'd be national commissions and every Left-wing politician would be pounding the pulpit and screaming bloody murder. And universities still go well out of their way, as do all traditional male industries and educational groups to favor women, to give them extra help, to recruit them, to set aside seats in STEM and other courses to ensure women, even if they're far down the list in capabilities, can still get in.

My own view has always been that if women didn't want to be in STEM that was up to them. I never saw nor do I now see the purpose in desperately trying to recruit them and persuade them to take on courses they have little interest in. Nor have I ever felt there was any good purpose in lowering standards in organizations like policing, firefighting, the military, or paramedics in order to get more women.

But no one on the Left ever had that view. And no one in education has ever been sanguine about having fewer women than men in ANY course whatsoever. Yet now we see many courses with far fewer men than women and the educational establishment, largely run by women now, could not care less.

The best way to show your manliness is to whine and moan like a little girl about how the woeman are to blame for all of your failures, while men still earn more and hold higher positions across the board.

Men choosing not to go to university because they have alternatives is a bit different from women not going to university because they were discouraged or prevented from doing so as was the case in years past.

If you didn't think women not going to university was a problem, why do you think men not going to university is? Maybe you can explain because the guy who wrote the piece in your op sure can't.

Just another feminized woke wannabe male suicide.  Your tribe is going extinct because of your beliefs.

Odd choice of words given that you seem to think men should kill themselves if they can't get into university.

Funny, considering the reason your tribe is going extinct is because it never feels the touch of a woman.

Go have sex, incel.
