I Need to Ask Millennials--Why Are your Kids so Awful?

"This isn't a racial issue. An age issue. Some parents are just not taking the time to raise their kids properly".

A recent Economist podcast quoted a study saying mom's are spending 50% more time parenting than 60 years ago and that's with having more employment today.  Fathers are spending even more than that as an increase.

Screens are a way to give everyone a break... but there's a huge cost.

Which is fine, but remember these are the same people you don't trust to handle students coming out as trans.

Michael and I are of the opinion  that this whole Transgender grooming thing is overblown. I know Michael very well. He is my Uncle.

My kids did all the normal sports and outdoor things, played video games like Zork and Oregon Trail.
My last spouse was a single Mom of two, and it seemed like they paid for it. Stepson's about the most unambitious person I ever met, though a decent parent. Step daughter just yelled at the kids and seemed to do her own thing. Didn't "come to" until she was in her 30s.

Got no blood grandkids to go by, the son passed away and the daughter can't have kids.
Just this morning I saw the little kid across the road blast across the street without looking and crash his scooter into the shrubs in my yard. Mom was yapping to her friends and didn't even see, I got to the kid who was bawling first and yelled to her. She didn't even notice him crying his eyes out twenty feet away.

Not sure if that's a good thing.

I am seeing far more helicopter parenting.

Many youth now, have to have things meticulously explained to them.

I come from that notion that when I start a job, I bring a journal and ask the manager if am okay to take notes (just so they know I will be paying attention).

I can't lump them all in the same box, but have seen so many youth struggle with troubleshooting.

I wanted to cancel an incorrectly ordered item, and it seems like I broke the salesperson brain with the request.

I don't even work there, and was able to provide them with a logical solution.

I was at a Winners and asked a youth where the shoes were:

"I'm not qualified to answer that question"

That's no problem, but would you know who would be?

*points to some random gentleman cleaning*.

I seem to get this all the time.

I could be in my first day at a job, and it just felt wrong to hang a client out to dry.

You just won't get this from a newcomer. "I'm not sure, but follow me", as would be taken as a learning opportunity all while assisting the client.

We've had a family event this past week and have had a stream of nieces and nephews coming through. They have kids now and...although I love to be around kids...I've noticed they all know that screaming and crocodile tears gets them exactly what they want.

One niece and her husband are raising their 2 year old on nothing but mac and cheese.

And nobody in the family is intervening to fix this situation?

Funny you should mention that.

I made a large family breakfast just yesterday. Pancakes, bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, toast and tea. I gave the 2 year old a small pancake with butter and syrup, and a strip of bacon and some eggs. Our niece started to say she won't eat it but...the young girl saw the rest of us enjoying the breakfast and dug right in on her own.

Kids not only need discipline...they crave it. Like any animal...if they don't see a clear leader...they assume the position.

...some are pointing the finger at Millennial parents who are opting to distract children with technology rather than properly discipline them...

For the vast majority of these kids, there might come a time when they'll get a wake-up call that they cannot handle. These home invasions that I see on YouTube can turn out deadly for them.

Definitely not a YES man aka "a follower".

The prime directive of any government from the City to the Federal level is to implement the wishes of the people, so let us vote on-line on how we spend my tax dollars.

I guess if you look at enough data and cherry-pick you can find the answer you are looking for.

60 years ago, far more women were at home with the kids.

No shit. Had a hobby farm, 2 cars, 2 kids and a couple hundred K in the bank and my Dad was muttering about my generation that bought a $2000 boat before we had a pot to p1ss in....

jealous as we grew up on the Coast, had a family cabin on a lake and never did own a boat. My sister bought a canoe and left it at his cabin...

One of my nephews will have epic meltdowns if he isn't provided pasta. No toppings. Just plain.

I would rather eat rice cakes. That latter world is shamefully false advertising.

Every generation does this. My generation was great and the ones after it are awful. Nothing new to see here.

Look at suicide rates. Amount of kids chopping their balls off. T**s off.

This isn't just a "worse than the last" generation.

It's exactly that, based on your cranky old man rant.

Let's see you post a cite of the number of children who have "cut their balls off" in Canada.

Here

He's ignoring the amount of youth getting gender reassignment surgeries has trippled in the US, and in Canada, there are wait lists up to 5 years or so.

One could look at those regretting the procedures which is also getting lengthy. Some high profile influences lending their voices to the mix.

Test scores, overall. The growing volume of youth that are unable to read at an advanced level.

These aren't just a few dozen people.

Have you produced a cite yet? Okay

... it's like getting blood from a stone...

And please something relevant to your claim, the kids are getting their genitals removed.

All of this from leave her posters who make complaints about the left lying... But when they make a claim, it's fine to move the goal posts or exaggerate as long as it's part of the cause.

Just say Mea Culpa and admit you exaggerated.

That's why this board has gone downhill.
