The election results will be irrelevant, since Trump has learned a great deal on overturning legitimate elections since 2020. I fully expect another insurrection, and civil unrest in the aftermath of the election.  There are signs Trump has pretty much given up on winning, and is not completely focused on stealing the Presidency, like he did in 2020.

If Harris wants to win, she will have to reach a 7 point lead, as Trump and the GOP will cheat.

Actually, the vast majority of Canadians are going for Harris, or at least they want anyone but Trump to win. In 2020, a month before the US election, there was a mock poll done in Canada, asking if Canadians can vote, who would it be for. The results were 84-16 Biden.

Not according to anyone else.  both 270 to win and realclearpolitics show her at  a 1 percent lead nationally and still likely to lose the college vote. Realclear is probably the best of the three. 

And this goes back to what we were talking about - this is as good as it gets for her pretty much. Between now and september 5th is going to be her chance to peak and gain momentum heading into the fall, where she won't likely have a chance to make much upward movement. 

Her path to victory was really to try and get up around six or seven points ahead right now and then hope to coast to election day without having to deal with the public much.

But the problem is it doesn't look like she's going to climb that high. She appears to have plateaued a little bit at the moment and trump seems to as well. And there's only about a 1% spread

She's still got the nomination coming up next week and that will be a huge media event, so we'll see how she does after that but he needs to be higher than this right now. It's not like she got a year's notice to prepare a killer campaign for the fall and putting a campaign together at the last minute just does not allow for a strong aggressive campaign. She needs to start off high

Well no, those are already factored in. 270 has a nice nap that shows it both in leading and Battlegrounds. Based on the polling if the election were held today and everybody voted and turn out was equal for both parties trump would win by a nose

But we have to be real about the fact that there is a margin of error. It's possible that trump is doing better than the poll suggest. It's also possible that the race is even closer or that harris is slightly ahead. It's not really critical, what we can say at this point is that it is still an open race and nobody has run away with it just yet. That's the important takeaway I would think

She seems to have peaked for the moment. Her and trump are both going up neck and neck about one point apart.

She should get a little bit of a bump during the nomination extravaganza that they must be planning right now. But it's not going to be a ton and that isn't going to be a problem. She needed to be up around 6:00 or 8 points right now. Hell even Hillary had six points on trump at this point.

Both real clear politics and 270 are reporting that and they are reporting it based on numerous polls that have been released.

Don't feel bad. Like I said with the margin of error when you start talking about a one or two point spread it's really illusionary. They are about the same with trump having a small advantage that isn't significant in and of itself at this point.

The problem is she just won't be set up for a good in-depth game downstream. How could she, she just became the nominee like an hour ago, she hasn't had a long time to plan for this.

Trump will be having to rewrite much of his game plan too, but it's going to be a lot easier for him. His team is already in place, they've already worked out a lot of the details, they just need to adjust and find lines of attack for harris.

Like I said, her challenges that if she doesn't go with a very substantially heading into September it's going to be very very hard for her. She will almost certainly finish the race lower than she started in September so she needs to go into September High. We will see if the convention can do that for her but it's not looking great at the moment

Nope  peaked at her highest on the 11th and is now about holding. She's fallen back to 1 percent and trump is climbing at about the same rate as her 

 

Trump took an initial hit and all the attention was on the 'new leader' but he's stabilized and is now climbing at about the same rate as her (can be a little hard to see in this small slice of the map, but you can see it more at the bottom in blue. 

She should get a slight bump next week, but that's all she's going to have in the gas can for the rest of the campaign and it better be a lot more of a lead than she's got now.
