Mearscheimer was born in 1947.

Different generations. Unlikely that they ever met.

Many American voters couldn't point on a map where Israel, Palestine or Ukraine are located not to mention that the candidates' views on those countries would influence the voters' decision who to vote for.

It is the wallet first which is the one and only factor on  which people base their voting-decision.
