Although it was the best thing for the party, I'm still surprised that Paul Martin actually resigned. Didn't he run it past his focus-groups first?

Agreed, I don't think he was a bad person, and he was a good finance minister... but he was a lousy prime minister.

Paul Martin was an excellent finance minister and I hope he's mostly remembered for that contribution to this country. It's unfortunate that powers beyond his control destroyed his chances as prime minister. At least he got to the helm of the ship, although only for 17 months.
