it seems inevitable that Woke Progressive Canada is going to deem both "British" & "Columbia" to be unacceptable

I fully expect that they will at some point officially change the name of the province to something "Indigenous"

and my guess is that name will be Skokomish, which is Coast Salish meaning "Big River People"

More like Skookumchuck, there's already two places named that and rivers aren't as important as the ocean.
So that would be skookum AFAIC.

But historically the British bit recognizes Sir James Douglas's monumental and defining efforts to keep the province from being absorbed by the USA. Columbia-Columbian is also commonly used to mean or describe mountains/mountainous.

On top of the fact nobody ever talks or mentions renaming the place, so that's why it made the news in the first place. Someone did, so it's newsworthy.
