The UK bringing in a law to quickly stop ECO warriors from blocking traffic

Recommended Posts

Eco-zealots who obstruct traffic will be rapidly dragged away by police under law changes that will make it easier for officers to remove 'human roadblocks' (msn.com)

This is what we need in Canada.  We have seen these environmental radicals block streets and bridge for long periods of time while the police do nothing.

The roads, bridges and public places belong to everyone.  A fringe group of eco radicals have no right to stop the public from travelling and going to work or living their lives.  Wake up Canada.

Absolutely right.  Truckers won’t be able to block city streets any longer.

When is the last time you heard of mass protests in Canada by environmental activists?

Yesterday.

For that matter when was the last time you heard of an Antifa or BLM protest, but these 'freedumb to do only what I agree with' ppl still carry on like their city's under siege right now. And those Palestine ones, why they've blocked the odd road for a whole hour or so sometimes. Punish punish and punish more!

One man...14 fires.

You’re saying he was an environmentalist.

An environmentalist who claimed the government was setting fires in order to trick people into believing in climate change….  That”s your definition of an environmentalist?

…among his posts were claims that the fires were intentionally set by the government to trick people into believing in climate change.

Aren’t there enough actual environmental whackos for you conservative posters to point to without making up nonsense about environmentalists setting wildfires?  Or a group of 5 vandals being a “mass protest” that will take special legislation to get a handle on?

You people need to Google a lot harder than copying the first links you find…

Environmentalists act in strange ways. They don't think twice about stopping traffic which forces cars to sit idling. Seems counterproductive if the goal is to reduce emissions. Remember how politicians were going on and on about said wildfires?

Crackpots start wildfires, clearly they want to push for climate change action. And it actually does get results.

Rise in extreme wildfires linked directly to emissions from oil companies in new study | CBC News

This is why they start the fires, to get people to panic.

Except, this arsonist didn’t believe in climate change….   You still think they’re an environmentalist though, don’t you?   It suits your narrative.  It’s easily refuted, and yet you’re sticking by your claim.

You’re a climate change denier, like this arsonist though, right?  You two are birds of a feather!

1. an anti-climate change conspiracy nut

2. a guy who torched some cars, a Mormon church and a Canada Post office (not seeing the environmental angle here)

3. a woman who set a bunch of fires three years ago and about whom there's no information connecting her with environmental causes.

Regardless of who set the fires...i think the point he was trying to make was the government took advantage of the fires to point out they were a result of climate change...when in reality it was due to some wingnut in a tin foil hat.

The argument isn't that climate change, like, randomly causes forest fires, but that climate change is making wildfires (whether caused by humans or things like lightning) worse and harder to fight.

5 people is a mass protest?

Ottawa police told CTV News Ottawa that the five protesters were arrested for mischief. Additional charges could be laid.

Nobody should be blocking traffic or public infrastructure (ie train lines etc) as a form of protest.  Stop turning this into some silly "right vs left" competition.

There's already laws against this sort of thing, they just have to enforce it, no need for new laws.

And they arrested all five of them at what you call a “mass protest”.

Maybe you’re right….  we already have laws to prevent 5 people blocking traffic.

Maybe we need new laws to prevent slightly bigger “protests” though?  Nothing short of the Emergencies Act (later deemed illegal) got the province of Ontario to enforce the laws, right?

Only 5 were arrested.  There were more involved.   The size of the protest is irrelevant.  Why didn't they arrest the truckers or the indigenous protestors blocking railways across Canada the year prior?  The same laws apply.   When people do illegal things and won't leave or comply with the law you arrest them.

The only difference between small protests and larger protests is the fear from politicians and police of a PR backlash if things get messy.  Deescalation is good, but when it doesn't work and someone resists arrest you're supposed to use the minimal force (violence) necessary to force them to comply.  Let's pass a law to make government including police grow some balls and do their jobs.

Not sure we can tie it to climate change,or find a direct link that shows fires are getting worse as climate change does.

Sure the weather played a role, but when you look at the graphs in the link i provided it does not show a steady increase to fires, in regards to acreage burnt, take a look at 2020 fire season, the lowest in 30 years...
