Should the B.C. Children's Minister resign or be terminated?

Recommended Posts

After the horrific abuse and cruelty inflicted on two children under the ministry's care over a long period of time and the death of one of them, this will be a test to see how B.C. Premier Eby responds and demonstrates leadership.

"In his ruling on June 16, Judge Peter La Prairie said the children were tortured, starved and forced to eat their own feces, vomit and dog food. They were forced to undertake excessive exercise routines for hours, often with their eyes taped shut, while in diapers or naked.

They were also subject to slapping, punching, kicking and whipping, with much of the abuse captured by video cameras inside the home.

The boy died in February 2021 after sustaining a traumatic brain injury during a beating by the woman, documents say. His sister was later examined and found to have multiple abrasions and bruises all over her body and injuries to her wrists and ankles from zip ties.

Police executed a search warrant and found evidence including a 2x4 piece of wood the couple used to beat the children and 16,000 videos with about 400 hours of playing time, depicting months of abuse from 2020 to 2021.

"The level of violence depicted in the videos is incomprehensible," La Prairie said in the ruling."

I think the children were put with relatives.  I can see how putting children with relatives may seem to alleviate the need for as much oversight as putting them in foster homes.

No one should be fired.

Taxes should be raised and more money go into the system to look after these vulnerable kids.

Just let them neglect the little kids so they can be abused and killed?  Usual brainless comments.

Why did you find it necessary to insult me just because I have a different opinion?

Don't pretend you believe the Bible.  We know you only twist it for your own perverse arguments.  Somebody without knowledge who displays ignorance constantly fits the description of brainless or without brains.  We know the only reason you make comments is to be contrary and provocative.  So how is that a man of understanding or reason?  You practically never agree with anything.  That speaks for itself.

I take the good parts, but recognize there are evil parts too.

I disagree that someone should be fired because the child’s relatives abused them. It’s not the overworked case-worker’s fault.

I provided an actual solution.   More taxes to hire more case-workers.   What’s your solution; fire everyone?

Never said to fire everyone.  The Minister is ultimately responsible for her department and if she has been unable to manage it, then she has to go.  The elected politicians are responsible for governing.  That's how the system works.  That is what they get paid the big bucks for.

So should the Justice Minister resign every time there’s a murder?

So just like I stated, what needed to be done was done. The workers directly involved were fired.

And yes, they needed to be fired as they failed to follow up on those kids which is part of their job. Not the Minister's job.

They didn't do that obviously or that kid wouldn't be dead.

Case resolved. And clear warnings for future slack off employees.
