explainer: 5 myths about the oil and gas industry

myth 1: the world no longer needs oil and gas

Demand for oil and gas is rising as the world’s population and production of goods expands. Energy security depends on reliable and secure sources that should include renewables as well as oil and gas.

myth 2: oil and gas companies aren’t really reducing their emissions

At Chevron, we believe the future of energy is lower carbon.

We're building on our strengths as we aim to lead in lower carbon intensity oil, products and natural gas. Chevron is also advancing new products and solutions that reduce the carbon emissions of major industries.

myth 3: companies don’t need permits to drill

Energy companies such as Chevron are required to obtain permits to drill on state, federal or private land.

Permits play a critical role in our ability to produce. Mike Wirth, our chairman and chief executive officer, called for an improved process to facilitate increased domestic operations.

myth 4: all U.S. oil comes from texas

While it’s true that Texas is considered the energy capital of the world, the Lone Star State is not the lone provider.

Chevron produces oil and gas around the world. Within the U.S., our operations span Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, California and the Gulf of Mexico.

Ever heard of Quaker State oil? Pennsylvania.

myth 5: the industry only hires engineers

Petroleum engineers represent just a portion of the industry’s diverse workforce. Geologists, doctors, marine scientists and environmentalists are part of a diverse spectrum of specialists who have found their calling in the energy industry.

Oh, you got a problem with fossil fuels? Do you think your favorite liberal politician has a problem with them?

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/john-kerry-mike-bloomberg-climate-earth-day-private-jet

Many U.S. climate activists, including Biden administration climate envoys John Kerry and Mike Bloomberg, celebrated Earth Day on Thursday and praised the administration's latest emissions goal — even after facing questions about how their personal private jet use harms the environment.

Kerry and Bloomberg have been known to travel on private jets while addressing climate change, even as other environmental activists, like Greta Thunberg, travel across the Atlantic Ocean by sailboat. Private jets have been estimated to emit upward of 40 times as much carbon per passenger as commercial flights.

Remember the SCIENCE, boys and girls.

1. 71 percent of the earth's surface is WATER

2. 10 percent of the ENTIRE land surface of the Earth is inhabited by humans.

3. The planet's climate has changed drastically, LONG BEFORE the arrival of homo sape. If or when it changes again, it WON'T be due to ANYTHING humans do, whether they are Chinese  communists polluting the air and leading the world in COAL usage, or rich liberals who guzzle gasoline and diesel while demanding taxpayers take a bicycle to work.

Chevron has far more self-interested PROFIT motive to LIE. OTOH, the government's NOAA bares the brunt of mitigation COSTS.

Governments don't really bear any mitigation cost, it's the taxpayers at the end of the day. Like it or not, companies like Chevron have the right to provide information to the public.

Profit is not a dirty word.

LYING is the dirty word. As is externalizing costs to society in support of that profit. AKA, stealing from taxpayers. Duh

Of the five myths quoted in the first post, which of them do you consider to be lies? Please be specific.

Anything think using a source called Chevron.com to talk about climate change may result in biased information ?

Prove those facts WRONG. Simple enough. PROVE those myths are real.

Oh, by the way (since you apparently didn't even graduate a blue state elementary school) Chevron did not mention the climate change lie. I DID. You're too stupid to even make the distinction.

That means you uneducated goose steppers lie FOR NOTHING. No profit, no reward. You just LIE AND LIE AND LIE.

If ANY of those points are incorrect, THIS is the place for you to produce PROOF, from a reliable source. Just running your trap only proves you to be a blue state uneducated twit.

PROVE YOUR POINT. Do your homework.

Or ADMIT you don't know what you're talking about. A or B.

Oh Jesus, chevron.com completely makes up gibberish BS ideas and calls them myths and they fall for it.

They're just as reliable as stepping outside and believing your own eyes.... duhh

Prove it, bitccch. Show us some facts from a RELIABLE source.

Or admit you are LYING.

A or B.

Just like that true/false test you flunked and had to drop out of fourth grade.

All liberals are LIARS. Why would you consider lying to be  dirty when that's all you've done since you've been here?

And the only one stealing from taxpayers are Democrats.

Companies like Chevron produce the fossil fuels for THESE wonderful environmentalists.

America's biggest environmentalists and their private planes

Climate activist Dems dropped more than $1.4 million on private jets during midterms

When your goose stepping politicians start flying ELECTRIC jets that use NO fossil fuel, they will have credibility.

NONE of them is believed true universally. Perhaps there is a small minority of nutcases which believe SOME of them.

myth 1: the world no longer needs oil and gas

Anyone who is in touch with reality KNOWS that there are niche uses for oil and gas which will take a long time to eliminate.

myth 2: oil and gas companies aren’t really reducing their emissions

As long as the market is growing, there is no reduction in emissions.

AKA, "clean coal" is the myth here.

myth 3: companies don’t need permits to drill

Never heard ANYONE say ^this about the US. Maybe in some foreign counties it's true.

myth 4: all U.S. oil comes from texas

^This is ridiculous. Who believes ^this crap?

myth 5: the industry only hires engineers

^This is ridiculous. Who believes ^this crap?
