Will prominent Socialist Olivia Chow win Toronto Mayoralty Race?

It's clear she's the inevitable choice. I hear she intends to decriminalize all drugs as per Vancouver and other places. Disaster is on the way.

And as I have 4 years to retirement, I've got one foot out the door already. Toronto has become a sewer and Chow will make it stink even more.

⬆️ ? Toronto mayoral debate set to be held this evening has been canceled and several candidates have paused their public appearances as police look for a man who allegedly threatened to shoot them.

https://www.cp24.com/news/debate-cancelled-as-police-look-for-man-who-allegedly-threatened-to-shoot-mayoral-candidates-1.6423308

Details of the fine citizen element are above. ⬆️ I won't name or post pictures regardless of who they are, people like this do not deserve a platform. Let's hope he does not get bail, however, anything is possible.

Huh...that's sickening yet...not completely unexpected...I'd expect.

Politics has always presented a reason...or maybe "excuse" would be a better term...for violent activists...from either side of the spectrum.

Today it seems politics sours all milk. It's corrupt stench oozes it's way into every discussion. Even sport is being poisoned by political activism. I don't know that the political divide has ever been so pervasive in society.

We inch closer to societal breakdown...carrying pitchforks and knives. This can't end well...

It’s only bad because you don’t like the direction.

Well it's looking like Chow's pulling ahead.

https://toronto.ctvnews.ca/chow-continues-to-grow-commanding-lead-in-polls-three-weeks-before-mayoral-election-1.6427233

Hard to imagine that she'd lose at this point. Looks like we'll be calling the place Torontchow for a while :)

I don't think she'll be a very good mayor. Her husbad was nothing short of amazing as a politician but she's just not. But - you get the gov't you deserve i guess.

It sure helps her win when CBC disallows one of the most significant front-runners from participating in their live TV debate.

Conrad Black: Anthony Furey is the only one who can beat Olivia Chow
"Mr. Furey is the candidate who is moving quickly and has attracted prominent and interesting supporters, including the eminent public intellectual Jordan Peterson and former Conservative foreign minister John Baird. His candidacy has practical as well as symbolic importance. If he is able to get his message out more widely in the three weeks before election day, his rapid advance in the last month could accelerate and make him a serious contender."

CBC excludes top mayoral candidate Anthony Furey from televised debate
In response to True North’s request for comment, the CBC says that they promise to give space to candidates whose commentary and platform “doesn’t violate CBC’s Journalistic Standards and Practices or Code of Conduct.”

That's how it's done folks. You get to pick the candidate they approve of.

Now go out there and vote!

Yes it is true. Do I stutter?

The report on Chinese interference that Johnston should have written

And I quote:

"As for Johnston, he has spent a half-century as an enthusiast of Canada’s descent into Beijing’s sphere of influence — championing academic collaborations, making numerous visits to China and wishing that all Canadians spoke Chinese."

....

This article is devastating to those mild-mannered pseudo-Conservatives among us, who think that status quo shall always rule the day. They are due for a history lesson.

Some more highlights:

Bombshell exposé by Alliance Canada Hong Kong documents Beijing's sinister operations here.
It examines the Chinese Communist Party’s sinister engagements with this country’s political processes, universities, civil society, corporate sector, Chinese-language news media and social media.

The rise of Beijing’s politburo-level United Front Work Department, which operates with a budget that exceeds China’s foreign affairs ministry, is devoted to subverting and influencing Canadian institutions and policing overseas Chinese communities. “The long-established United Front networks in Canada are operating with increasing sophistication and aggression,” the Murky Waters report finds.

“A primary and direct approach in influencing Canadian elections is for the UFWD to simply support or sabotage candidates of interest. (Think John Tory's sudden exit)

The fundamental goal is to advance Beijing’s agenda by either supporting candidates deemed favourable or sabotaging candidates perceived as a threat,” ...

“Beijing also provides incentives, funding, and benefits to individuals, organizations, and businesses in mainstream Canadian society who align with its agenda, extending beyond diaspora communities” by utilizing “proxy actors, such as law firms, consulting agencies, businesses and government relations firms” in order to avoid scrutiny.

And finally for those same pseudo-intellectuals who decried the CSIS "leakers" -
It’s only because of the unauthorized release of CSIS documents and the risks taken by CSIS whistleblowers in alerting the news media to the Trudeau government’s wilful inattention to this state of affairs that Canada is finally paying some attention to what groups like the Alliance Canada Hong Kong, the Uyghur Rights Advocacy Project, Canada-Hong Kong Link and the Toronto Association for Democracy in China have been saying, for years.

⬇️ Chow’s lead slips, ⬆️ Bailao’s support jumps up: Mainstreet poll

Ana Bailao has gained ground in the race for mayor of Toronto as support for frontrunner Olivia Chow has slipped this week, according to a new poll released on Friday morning.

If the election was held today, 29 percent of decided voters would cast their ballots for Chow while 20 percent would choose Bailao.

The polls are all over the place.  Bailao has been much lower in other polls too.

The renters of Toronto are being thrown into the meat grinder and they want the city to start punishing landlords and stop evictions.  It will get bloody and may be the start of a class war, actually

Quite possibly. It's a major problem right now - the left all across  canada right now is is treating landlords like they're evil disney step moms and many are leaving the market. Which means that there's a severe shortage and increased prices which upsets the renters even more who then get more angry at the landlords and so on. Eventually something will have to give but you can't force people to rent out their places.

True, but presumably people want to get something for their ass out. Landlord to leave the market, but the residence is still there when they go.

To be sold to the next rich person who can afford it.  With a limit of housing driving prices through the roof a lot of renters today can't afford to buy.

So that leaves  a severe shortage of rentals and homes are still outside the price range of most people who don't own one already. And with few people buying homes as rentals developers slow down the number of units they start. The end result is - no homes to rent and none coming down the pipe.

I'm convinced that crashing the market would have an effect on rents.

It wouldn't unfortunately.  Remember when the kids were all excited for interest rate hikes thinking that would bring prices down? And that lasted for 5 seconds before they went up again but now it's harder to buy a home due to the higher rates?

At the end of the day there are not enough homes.  So the market isn't capable of crashing. There's no 'bubble' because the supply is so short - and about to get shorter.

If people sold their rental properties it would either go to people who wanted to live in it (which means less supply in rental and higher prices) or to someone willing to take the risk of being  a landlord so someone who's going to keep the rents high, and probably a larger rental company instead of the smaller one or two unit landlords that mostly make up teh market today.

rental prices will be going up no matter what unless more product is built at a faster rate than population growth for a sustained period - but if landlords leave the market the situation will become hopeless for many renters at the bottom end. No home to rent at any kind of afffordable rate and too poor to buy a home. They'll be street-camping in an rv if they're lucky.  Sucks for people with kids.

I got 3 kids. But I was lucky enough to be able to buy 3 houses. If I ever have an rv, it'll be parked by a nice lake full of fish.

Well unfortunately the only kids who'll be getting homes pretty soon are those who can rely on the bank of mom and dad, as your kids will have the fortunte of doing.

Think about what the average cost of living is right now and what the average 30 year old is making. He ain't  buying three homes any time soon :) Or even one home.  And  if he's got a family to provide for it's even worse.

Very soon the bottom 20 percent of our WORKING population will not be able to afford homes in the way we're used to and will have to get very creative or live with things like two families living in a small house.

Parent's homes are becoming 'generational' - the younger generation never moving out and actually raising kids there and then when the older folk die or have to go to a home or the like they take over the house and i suppose the situaton repeats.

Indeed. As it was designed. Except...when I hit 65, the spawn will be paying me for their homes. I'm gonna pack up my clubs, my fishing gear if needed and my wife,

And we're leaving.
