Not just a little bit of a joke, they are a complete farce as human beings. Truth and facts aren't their thing. They run on fear and anger. Those two things are incredibly motivating for humans and fear and anger have been tools for manipulating the public for millenia. Get the public mad about something or afraid of something and it's EASY to get them to either take action or to give you unprecedented power to take action. ANd then they will claim YOU are the one who's afraid and angry - because then they can dismiss any argument you make as just being the fear and anger talking.
