Below is an example in Barack Obama, years ago, not saying the word "gun" after the shooting of Congresswoman Gabby Giffords. Why? The political strategists at the time told him, if he takes on the NRA, he will lose the elections. And it is true, the lobby groups are a powerful force, is just the reality.
