A Florida charter school principal said she was forced to resign this week after some parents complained about their sixth-grade students being shown images of Michelangelo’s “David” statue in class, with one parent believing the art lesson on the Renaissance masterpiece amounted to pornographic material.

The more graphic picture is in the article too.

Well, at least you provided a link, even though it is a left wing biased one from an unreliable source. Try the truth, for a change.

Hope Carrasquilla, who had been the principal at Tallahassee Classical School, stepped down Monday during an emergency board meeting, the Tallahassee Democrat reported. She was appointed to the position less than a year ago.

The school board's chair, Barney Bishop, told Carrasquilla that she could either quit or be fired but gave no reason for the ultimatum. She told the newspaper that she believes it was because of the art lesson

So she wasn't fired. The WAPO lied.

Also, your goose stepping source conveniently left this out:

But three parents complained that their children felt uncomfortable with the lesson

Gee! You goose steppers want to bring federal charges against those who make children feel uncomfortable with the WRONG PRONOUNS, but you have no problem with children seeing a NAKED MAN STATUE.

The Tallahassee school board has demonstrated to the world that in THAT PARTICULAR COUNTY, the PARENTS actually have some say in the matter.

To bring you up to speed, every Florida county is different in how they handle education. (For that matter, no two schools are the same. I know. I sub for two counties.) The Tallahassee school had a problem with children viewing NUDITY, but a Miami school board had no problem taking minors to a pornographic DRAG QUEEN event at a local hotel. So you can't just point to one Florida county and assume it speaks for the entire state.

Wait, newsweek is not left wing?

Here's another source, proving once again why Fox is superior to all the rest.

By the way, NONE of the left wing sources pointed out that Tallahassee Classical School is actually a CHARTER SCHOOL. (I just checked. It is still in the Leon County PUBLIC SCHOOL directory. Not all Charter Schools are privately funded.)

Tallahassee Classical is a charter school that follows Hillsdale College curriculum, which requires instruction about Renaissance art in sixth grade. The school recently lost its Hillsdale College affiliation for not meeting improvement standards, but it was able to regain curriculum status, the Tallahassee Democrat reported.

AGAIN, information a lot of people here didn't know.

Hillsdale College is one of two colleges in the United States that accepts ZERO funding from the federal government. No Perkins, Stafford, etc grants, no student loans. This came about when the federal government demanded that Hillsdale release its student enrollment data based on race and Hillsdale told the government to take a fcking hike.

(Oh, and by the way, Hillsdale was the FIRST college to graduate a black female since Reconstruction.) Hillsdale is also the creator of the critically acclaimed free market newsletter IMPRIMUS.

I'd say that qualifying for a Hillsdale College Affiliation pretty much puts this charter school a few centuries over any blue state public school.

As far as asking a principal to resign because some parents thought that was a pornographic event, it pretty much illustrates the Florida attitude about the power of the PARENT, and why it is so important, and why Florida schools are the best in the US>

About Charter Schools. (And this is for the "school choice" crowd as well as the goose stepping teacher's union goons.)

The term Charter School doesn't automatically guarantee a superior experience, totally devoid of ANY public school influence whatsoever. And not all Charter Schools are privately owned.

A Charter School, at least in the county Public School roster, would be considered a "specialty" school. I've subbed at several.

One charter school I subbed at was designed for upper grade kids who were about to drop out, who just wanted to graduate. This was considered a last chance school in the system. It had two sections, (I subbed for both) and one section was segregated from the other because the one section had kids with arrest records.

One charter school was dedicated solely to the handicapped, everything from ADHD to full blown Downs Syndrome. I watched some of the more intense classes where the teachers wanded the kids before they were allowed to enter.

One charter school was completely K to 12, and it was solely based on the performing arts. (Kind of a redneck GLEE academy.) I subbed many times there.

The only privately owned Charter School I subbed at was in Orlando. Most of the students were gang members and I suspect most of them were armed. The school was shut down because the owner was arrested for fraud, concerning transportation. Not all privately owned charter schools go that route.

It appears that Tallahassee Classical School is Charter based on its affiliation with Hillsdale College.

Bottom line, it is still part of Leon County public schools, and apparently in that county the parents  have the last word on such decisions.
