Mayor Johnson, Chicago

Recommended Posts

This one is a no brainer. He got 20%. She got 17%.

Vallas got a few hundred thousand votes in a city of more than a million potential ballots

And Johnson has an organization to collect/harvest those ballots not on one day - but over the next few weeks.

DeSantis has no chance in 2024.

I assume you're talking about the Democrat, April Runoff, Primary.

In the first election Vallas finished on top.

Johnson was second and current mayor Lori Lightfoot was knocked out.

What's suspected is that Brandon Johnson, being not just far left but black will inherit the Lori Lightfoot vote surging him to the front.

However...Vallas is the law and order guy. Johnson is pretty much defund the police. That's becoming a big issue in Chicago. I wouldn't make any bets on this one just yet.

If Chicago is stupid enough to elect another Democrat, (after all the crime and damage done by past Democrats) it DESERVES every bit of misery coming its way.

InfidelDog and Reason, you have no understanding of current (or historical) US elections.

====

In Canada, in federal/provincial elections, we put one X beside one name for a riding. That's it.

(All US elections are more like our municipal elections: mayor, alderman, school representatives... Zilliions of names)

===

In Canada, we have a voter list.

In the US, they now send out ballots (like our Census Forms) and activists/community organisers collect the forms.

Reason,

Your self-confidence is astounding. As if Detroit or Chicago were not America itself.

It's true: Americans (Democrats such as Matt Damon and Robert Redford) do not understand irony.

I don't see where you're getting Detroit or Chicago not being America from my statement that if Chicago is stupid enough to elect another Democrat, it deserves every bit of misery coming its way. And I don't get how this somehow relates to whatever "self confidence" I might have.

I'm just an other typist in this artificial atmosphere, where we ALL start out as equals and are judged ONLY on our ideas, since that's the only part of us that exists here.  I'm not a real person here.  There's no place in this box to take a shit.

I have the same form as everybody else.

The Democrats have discovered Kryptonite. And they know it.

In their view, they are simply helping ordinary people to vote as they should have.

Actually, the Civil Rights act (as well as the Republican Party's efforts to attain the vote for women) is all in the last century.

Democrats are helping ordinary CRIMINALS vote illegally and more than once.

Your federal Civil Rights Act would be unconstitutional in Canada.

We in Canada have a different way of protecting minority rights.

In Canada, we do not have a federal education bureaucracy. Each province decides how we teach our children. In Canada, we have no federal HEW.

Indeed in Canada, we do not have a federal health bureaucracy.

Disagree.

Do the math.

Which Math?

You mean this math?

Mayor lightfoot finished third, behind:

"

former Chicago Public Schools CEO Paul Vallas, who won 33.95 % and Cook County Commissioner and Chicago Teachers Union organizer Brandon Johnson, who wound up with 20.32%."

https://www.chicago.suntimes.com/live/chicago-election-day-2023-results-live-updates

But then you have to add the far left and black vote Johnson should inherit from Lightfoot. But then add the law and order vote even leftists are swinging to after Chicago has become such a crime ridden cesspool.

Sounds like the runoff might be pretty tight to me.

That part is simple. It's so frikken COLD there that minorities move south. Canada doesn't have any minorities.

In Canada, we do not have a federal education bureaucracy. Each province decides how we teach our children. In Canada, we have no federal HEW.

In America, the COUNTY makes most of the education decisions. Our Department Of Education is the greatest waste of taxpayer dollars in history.

Indeed in Canada, we do not have a federal health bureaucracy.

Probably because patients who need surgery (emergency or not) wind up coming to America to avoid the wait. Canada's socialist health care system winds up COSTING a lot more and helping a lot fewer people.

Johnson can collect the ballots.

In the past, Dems worried about voter registering and getting them to vote on a single day.

With Covid, Dems discovered Krytonite. Now: Voters don't have to vote on a single day.

This is true.

But your federal government (HEW) has a huge education bureaucracy and many subsidies.

In Canada, we don't. We have no federal education bureaucracy.

Because of Quebec, education - and family law - is a provincial jurisdiction.

I don't get the connection.

Clooney is a rich guy who is virtue signaling.

Or maybe he's a Catholic/Jew signaling that he's not a country club WASP.

=====

In the 1890s, in Canada, we moved beyond this. We Protestants voted for a Catholic Conservative.

In federal Canada nowadays, we care about language.

Can our politicians speak well in French or English?

You do know Vallas is also a Democrat, right?

I watched that show. I like Brand as a comedian and he has some worthwhile things to say but as a guest of Maher's he was a complete boor. He just shouts everyone else down, including Maher. Heilemann was justified in giving back just a little of what Brand was dishing out. I was disappointed in Brand.

Kinda hard to have a voter list in American blue states, when people can send in as many ballots as they want.

1. In the past in America - 1800s,  candidates printed and gave out ballots and then people handed them in - sorta like our McDo coupons.

2. The term "House of Commons" has always struck me. Who is "common"?

As opposed to the House of Lords.
