reason10 Posted January 25, 2023 Report Posted January 25, 2023 https://www.foxnews.com/opinion/san-diego-taxing-people-public-transportation San Diego wants to tax people out of their cars and into public transportation San Diego County’s Regional Transportation Agency’s (SANDAG) latest transportation plan is designed to make driving so expensive that you succumb to public transportation. In addition to the current gas tax and registration fees, SANDAG’s plan adds three new half-cent sales tax increases, over 800 miles of San Diego County freeway lanes converted to toll lanes, and a mileage tax for every mile driven to pay for their $165 billion public mass transit plan. SANDAG’s new plan refuses to build the road improvements promised in their last plan but will continue to tax us until 2048 to pay for them. SANDAG’s finance plan states, "Charging fees for the transportation infrastructure that people use—for example, charging users for each mile they drive on the highway—can change travel behavior."'' This is a blatant TAX ON THE POOR, which the Democrats excel in. (Note to forum TROLLS; This thread is NOT about climate change. Don't EVEN think of trying to change the subject.) Liberals from California. YOU VOTED FOR THIS SCHITT. DON'T EVEN THINK OF FLEEING TO FLORIDA OR TEXAS TO ESCAPE WHAT YOU BROUGHT ON YOURSELF. WE DON'T WANT YOUR DUMB ASSES HERE. Quote
robosmith Posted January 25, 2023 Report Posted January 25, 2023 YOUR "TAX ON THE POOR" title and verbiage is A LIE. EVERYONE would PAY THE SAME TAX. IN FACT, the TRULY POOR are already taking mass transit in San Diego (where I live and YOU DON'T). Can you EVER post the truth? LMAO. Quote

It’s interesting that Republicans constantly favor taxes which tax all people the same, but suddenly, the policy is a “tax on the poor”. Personally, I oppose regressive taxes in all cases and I agree that it’s wrong to solve congestion problems by pricing the poor out of automobile use. Forcing people into public transportation reduces their job options. The real question: What is the truth here? Fox News is notorious for skewering the truth, so what’s really going on? Is this an actual policy, or another case of “somebody said something”? Edited January 25, 2023 by Rebound Quote @reason10: “Hitler had very little to do with the Holocaust.”

Of course by his posted OPINION "logic," every tax on necessities is a "tax on the poor," even when it's paid at the SAME RATE by EVERYONE. FILE THAT POST UNDER OLD "NEWS." Even this response is from Sept 2022. SANDAG drops controversial mileage tax for drivers Quote The board's action set the stage for removing the regional road usage charge temporarily. Quote
