Contrarian
I decided to think about it, what are my top 3 movies, and start a thread about it. After some deliberations: Mine: 1. A Beautiful Mind (2001) 2. The God Father (1972) 3. A Space Odyssey (1968) Others that did not make it: Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011), JFK (1991), Scent of a Woman (1992), Good Will Hunting (1997). ---> Do you have a list? Dougie93
21st century edition top three movies since 2000 1. Downfall 2. No Country for Old Men 3. The Departed
bcsapper
It is so hard to do this. Like asking someone for their favourite song. I'd put money on the previous posters coming up with other movies tomorrow or the next day that they forgot today. I know I will. Some of the movies already mentioned here I would class in my top twenty. Blade Runner, Apocalypse Now, Goodfellas, Downfall. Others in the same vein, Taxi Driver, Pulp Fiction. My favourite movie is Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. That might have to do with it being about only about the third movie an impressionable 11 year old saw in the theatre. I have watched it countless times since. 12 Angry Men, The Third Man, The African Queen (Ha, Treasure of the Sierra Madre, Casablanca, The Maltese Falcon, take your pick of Bogart films) are also in my top twenty. bcsapper
It didn't take a day. Alien, Aliens, Terminator, Terminator 2. Of course, when it comes to my reading material, I'm a science fiction fan above all other genres. I'm going to bias towards science fiction movies. herbie
Can't think of Top 3 but top memorable Horror movies had to be Alien and the 1982 version of The Thing. And while 2001 engrossed me when I was a kid, it's silly premise and dragging pace is all I remember over the years. I've tried to rewatch it several times over the years but always fell asleep or switched to reruns of WW2 In Colour or (nobody cares)How It's Made... bcsapper
Yeah, I forgot about Clockwork Orange. My top twenty for sure. Ties in with Dougie93's comment about how important music is in some movies.
Infidel Dog
I actually would have listed African Queen 3rd by itself if you hadn't got there first.
Infidel Dog
The way I pick favorite movies is I use what I call 5 minute movies. You know those movies where you're walking past the Television about to do something that's on your list of things to do and you catch it out of the corner of your eye, so you freeze, turn your head towards the set and think to yourself, 'I really like this one. I'll just watch 5 minutes of it.' 2 hours later, there's you in the chair. Watching the end credits.

If the rating is under 7, I can't watch it. Is just the Contrarian's 7 rule. Here are the top 3 movies according to the giant IMDB, the article has TOP 250: 1. The Shawshank Redemption (1994) 2. The Godfather (1972) 3. The Dark Knight (2008) https://www.imdb.com/search/title/?groups=top_250&sort=user_rating,desc

Infidel Dog
Me too. I just watched the Fifth Element yesterday. It 'Five Minuted" me. So good. So much fun. When Mila's big scene comes up I'm leaning forward on my chair, muttering to myself, "Go ahead, say it Leeloo. You know you want to. You know you can say it. Say it." Then she does. She says, "Multi-pass." And I dissolve into giggles. Edited Tuesday at 01:16 AM by Infidel Dog
