Iceland has a population of some 400,000 people. It is a sustainable society.

=======

If Quebec were a country like Sweden, Ontario would just be Michigan, and Toronto another Chicago, Cleveland - a city on a Great Lake.

I say this because I reckon there is a huge misunderstanding about life, and Canada.

there is no particular Canadian civilization

there is only the Glorious Revolution of 1688

the Canada founded by the House of Bourbon on 22 June 1603 was an abject tyranny

overthrown by its own people in the French Revolution

the civilization in Canada now;  came from America

by way of the Scots Protestant Enlightenment

the United Empire Loyalists come up from Pennsylvania to Upper Canada

Orange Order

Guardians of Confederation

May I ask...what's the point of this thread?

Newfoundland, with some 500,000 people nowadays, has existed for some 500 years.

====

To survive and be civilsed, Quebec doesn't have to have more people. Canada doesn't need more people.

People like Trudeau Jnr think of progress as getting bigger, growing, having more.

===

Very soon, the world's population will start to fall. We are seeing it now already.

Places like Iceland and Bulgaria are sustainable for centuries.

Oh...OK.

Rather disjointed but...I agree.

For gawds sake, go.

The rest of Canada did not get to vote for your separation last time otherwise you would be gone.

I wonder if Quebec has too much of Canada in it already to separate and build an own distinct society (remember, we cannot have anything real done anymore; only look back and shed a sentimental tear, how we used to be, or rather dreamed of being)

I happen to think that our society - our civilized State - is remarkable. I wish that elsewhere in the world, people could live as Canadians.

But Canada is not a natural state. The French language has lived longer in North America than the US Constitution.

Live as a country under constant threat of a part of Canada wanting to separate and using that to get more than the rest of Canada?

So what? The French lost and only out of British kindness and conciliation does it still exist in Canada.

No, a State where different people live together. A federal  State.

Some of us speak French, and some don't.

I've always liked Pierre Trudeau: "Turn the box around."
