House Progressive Democrats retract Russia - diplomacy letter amid firestorm

Party lawmakers were blindsided by Monday's release of a letter calling for direct negotiations in Ukraine, according to several people familiar with the situation.

House progressives on Tuesday retracted a letter calling on President Joe Biden to engage in direct diplomacy with Russia, less than 24 hours after it sparked intense backlash from other Democrats.

The about-face comes as some Democratic lawmakers vent their fury that the letter backing talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin — originally drafted and signed in June — wasn’t recirculated before its public release on Monday.

I would expect that the twenty most liberal Congresspeople would be pro-peace and would encourage a diplomatic solution to conflict. No big surprise.

A 4 party system?

a) Republican Populists (Trump style wing)      RP ->->

b) Republican Establishment (McConnell style wing)   RE ->

c) Democratic Establishment (Pelosi style)  <- DE

d) Democratic Populists (Bernie Sanders style)  <-<- DP

I flatly reject the idea that everybody in a political party has to be in lock-step agreement with leadership.  There are liberal, moderate and conservative democrats.

Yes, which need to compromise at the end depending on who holds the power. Same on the republican side.

My point (which I agree is not realistic) is similar to Teddy Roosevelt's action -> "Bust the Trust."

The 4 party system Contrarian utopia allows for more competition. Healthy Competition is good -> even in politics. Less lying. 😂

I think that where the big problem lies is here: When party members disagree with the party, interest groups flood their district with negative ads and robocalls. This is especially true on the Republican side.  They simply cannot vote their conscience.

Saying that a four party system would fix things is probably not going to make any difference. You need a majority vote to pass a bill. If a third party holds 10% of either house, they’ll control everything.
