I don't think you realize how dangerous to a democratic society and unethical, doing that was.

Much more dangerous than calling in the military.

You'll likely realize it too late - when that power is turned against you.  You're not very intelligent in that way.

You don't seem to realize what power and authority the Emergency Measures Act has.

There is very little chance I will ever put myself in a position of being anti government enough for the EMA to be used on me so, that is moot. So, by that alone, I am very much intelligent in that way.

I find it humorous that so many on this forum (including you) are so enraged and so apoplectic about the convoy debacle yet never set foot in Ottawa and I suspect did not participate in any of the protests (none of you ever said anything to indicate you did). Just keyboard warriors, bellowing displeasure from your little spaces . :)

We have had protests across Canada that have blocked important trade routes for weeks, and in many places, the government waited it out, nothing was done, i mean it was an indigenous protest but none the less a protest and the government decided to set a precedence with the convoy, declaring an national emergency no less ...

I get it we have a right to protest, just not to impair anything around the area... but have you seen an effective protest that did not break a law, one that brought recognition to one's cause. Me neither. Not that i condone their behavior but one would think aliens had landed and were doing experiments on city folks... not that they would find anything of great importance it's Ottawa after all.

You know as well as I do that indigenous can do and say anything they want without consequences. ☹️

Just to defend my city. I live here, as do over 1 million others. We are primarily citizens, just like you are of your city or community. To say "it's Ottawa after all" is insulting to all it's citizens.  There were many Ottawans that were in agreement with the convoy principals at first. It diminished when it became more than anti vaxx and started to become anti government and some freedom issue.

Anyway, Ottawa is far more then the few square blocks that is parliament. We are families, parents, kids, and the same as any other city in Canada.

Don't worry about it.

There are plenty of Canadian women who would fight right alongside the men in the face of totalitarianism.

You can hide behind my skirt. ?

Now, @Dougie93that's an ex-military man I'd be proud to have on my side.  I don't think he'd be hiding behind women's skirts.

Same skirts you are hiding behind from behind your keyboard.

very kind of you to say so, ma'am

even if you are the only one to say so

it is my honour & privilege to serve

It's astonishing to hear a member of the Canadian military say outright that there is nothing the government could do that he would defy them on.

I hope our military isn't full of such cowards.

I think you would have difficulty  having dougie ion your side if he was still in uniform.

Oh and "face of totalitarianism"??? Seriously?  You are more and more deranged in each post.

Do you, in any way, actually think that the Canadian Military would defy the government and have a coup d'etat? In Canada??

Even dougie would not do that.

Do you think it is beneficial for government to favor one group over another, and we wonder where all this divisive behavior comes from. the law is the law, no one is above the law except Justin.

Flyer your skin is thicker than that, I hope, everyone in the military referred to it as the puzzle factory, the place ideas go to die. it also home to all our federal politicians making it truly the clown factory...

We live in a country where cancel culture, and woke culture rule the roast. I think this whole convoy plus vaccine thing brought out everyone's true colors. to the point where people wanted the unvaccinated jailed, sent to camps, my point here is the colors both sides showed during these events were not good, were not Canadian. And I'm sure it could have easily turned out much worse. And it is not over yet, winter is coming, and more restrictions will follow.

The vaccine is harmless. I’ve had 5 shots and no problems. So has the rest of my family. I don’t know of anyone who has had any problems.

Actually the "vaccine" is not harmless. I was hospitalised for a week after my second shot with acute chest pain. Doctor admitted the vaccine causes the immune system to become compromised. Two of my close friends developed blood clots, one has permanent damage the her leg. there are many others.

I can only speak for myself and from my experience

one must remember their oaths & affirmations

to include declining to obey unlawful orders

particularly those which violate the highest law in the land

each person therein must decide for themselves to defend & uphold the rights enshrined by the preamble of the Charter

Whereas Canada is founded upon principles that recognize the supremacy of God and the rule of law"

Absolutely not but, you cannot deny the fact the indigenous(formerly Indians, formerly natives and whatever else they decided they wanted to be called) have not been favoured in the past 50+ years?

We called the NDHQ building (101 Col By), Disneyland on the Rideau. Unfortunately it was and is home to the DND which is not Military.

I hope that the February debacle did not bring "out everyone's true colors.". I think it provided a platform for many but by no means all. As we know, the majority of Canadians did not agree with the protest , the methods and even the sentiment. The accusation of uncaxxed being jailed or sent top camps was as rhetorical as those on this forum that vehemently defended the anti vaxxed. Lots of BS talk on both extremest sides.

I very much agree that it could have become very much worse, had the Military been called in it could have become Oka II.

I think it is pretty well all over except for bad feelings amongst some. I think the commission report will be critical of both sides and that will just about be it.

Oh and, I sure hope that there will be no more restrictions but, what if 8th or 9th wave happens due to a further mutated SARS-CoV-2 COVID virus? What action do you recommend should be taken?

Not to take sides here, but during the Cuban missile crises Canadian naval group did just that defied a direct order from the PM not to get involved, and they sailed down south and joined a US naval task force the rest is history.

As for a coup it would have to be a very serious matter, like the government gone rogue or something, but I've seen it happen in many countries Canada is not immune to any of it.

there are extreme circumstances where one is bound by solemn oath to overthrow the government

Canada overrun by a foreign power, installing a government in occupation

Canada subjugated by a foreign power installing a puppet government through nefarious covert means

Canada falling to a totalitarian government, such as the Communists or National Socialists

but furthermore, the Minister of National Defence does not actually report to the government

neither does the CDS

both report directly to the monarch

so I do see a circumstance where the chain of command could arrest a Prime Minister in the name of the King

I have all my shots, due to other medical reasons, but i firmly agree with it should be up to ever person to do what they think is best, and yes that comes with restrictions of course. and just one more point we are going into year 3 with all of this, have we corrected any of the faults we discovered through this pandemic, like fix long term care homes, improve our supply lines by having medications, vaccines made here in Canada, plus all the PPE. I don't think the government held up its end of the promises they expect Canadians to fight this by following the rules they chose. And do very little lift their share.
