This song, written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David and sung magnificently by the incomparable Dionne Warwick has to be among the candidates! Promises, Promises - Dionne Warwick Promises, Promises is a musical with music by Burt Bacharach, lyrics by Hal David and a book by Neil Simon. It is based on the 1960 film The Apartment written by Billy Wilder and I. A. L. Diamond.
