Aristides
Smith got 53% of the vote on the sixth ballot and Kenney quit because he only got 51.4 % in a leadership review . Rachel Knotley must be the happiest person in Alberta this morning. Edited October 7, 2022 by Aristides

You are comparing apples and oranges. Choosing a party leader by ranked ballot is often done that way because there were many candidates running, something like six or so candidates and the ballots are weighted depending on the riding they came from. She was chosen on the sixth ballot. Because the system of ranked ballots is used and there were a large number of contenders, the outcome is no indication that she has low support. Also once the voting is done and the winner is chosen, the party will unite around her. Kenney should have had 65% or 70% to continue. He was the only one on the ballot. It was a yes or no choice. So it is a totally different situation. Edited October 8, 2022 by blackbird

No, it means 47% preferred a different leader during the process, but after the vote they accept the decision of the majority.

Yes 47% wanted someone else. Of course they accept the decision of the majority, this isn't the US.
herbie
Amazing how only 51% support caused a resignation, but 53% (after 6 rounds!) is a victory.

Anything is possible but hopefully Albertans will never make the same mistake twice and put in the socialists again.

Ndp was the best thing alberta did in 40 years... 40 years of right wing cons have done nothing for alberta lmao. danielle smith will also be easier to beat in a election then the other choices because she can't help herself with that mouth of hers.. shes about as bright as a brick wall.
herbie
Yes, all those campers in their 40 ft motor home towing a 28 ft boat told us just how awful it was under the NDP. Yet when we went to Alberta everyone there was working, the roads were all being redone, the motels and cafes were full and all our freinds were telling us to pack up and move there....

I can't argue that Alberta Conservatives weren't getting complacent but any province that goes full-on NDP is going to suffer. We learned that the hard way here in Ontario with Bob Rae. 1

TreeBeard
Looks like the new Alberta premier has walked back the sovereignty nonsense already. I wonder what her supporters think of her doing that on day 1? https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/sovereignty-act-danielle-smith-alberta-1.6612197 And then in her first speech she says the unvaccinated are the most discriminated-against group she has seen in her lifetime. Predictably, she has had to “clarify” what she meant and will be meeting with minority groups to explain herself. Next, will come an apology, I think.

Zeitgeist
Her only mistake was backing off her claim about unvaccinated people being the most mistreated in our society in recent years. She was right. Minorities are treated much better, same with LGBTQ2I plus. Just look at the trans teacher with the giant fake breasts. She’s practically considered a saint and has the full protection of police and school board. I just want conservatives to be conservative and let the snivelling left wing sucks shit their pants before people who stand by strong values. herbie
Yes, and there were so many visitors at the time locals referred to those people as "Albortions". No one around here's surprised an anti-vax Convidiot Residential School burial denying Trump lackey like Danielle "Palin" won the UCP. I’m starting to use your negative remarks as a method for deciding if I like someone. Danielle might actually be pretty good. I just hope she sticks to her guns despite the criticism of the woke mob. Alberta is the province with the best chance of overcoming the radical left. I like that province, but they may have to get out of Canada to maintain their integrity and democracy.
herbie
Woke. The radical Left, Dupe. The 'woke shit' didn't lessen one bit under Harper or Trump so it's got nothing to do with left or right or politics in general. We can tell that the 'right' is so played out and disproven that it's the only thing they can think about so might as well blame 'the left' for it. Anything remotely decent or addressing social inequities is counter to social conservatism, isn't it? You don't want a fiscally responsible and fair gov't to run the country, you want someone that will impose your views on everyone else and to hell with managing a country. If she has her way you could wind up in an Alberta hospital and get Hepatitis or some other disease from an unvaccinated health care worker. She's a loon. 2

Also, buys into conspiracy theories…. hey…. did she post here I wonder??? She’d fit in!
