2022 Republicans Lose Federal Senate, Will Keep Federal House

Recommended Posts

Federal House seats ae gerrymandered and the Republicans can win, check what's going on.

The federal Senate votes? This is state-wide.

In Arizona, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Georgia - there is no chance that a Republican will win.

=====

In the current Democrat activist thinking, collecting a blank ballot from a person, completing the ballot and putting the ballot in a box is simply helping the person to express their opinion.

Anything else is "voter repression".

In Canada, I have to go physically -mostly

Here are instructions - for my forthcoming Quebec election:

==========================

Very important point to Americans, the ballot is a small sheet with a list of names: I check once - pick one person - and leave.

BTW, each party has "scrutineers" who verify what is going on.

Make no mistake - the US is a remarkable place. Its Constitution is a remarkable document.

This original federal State survived a civil war, and even the compromise of the 14th Amendment.

====

True, the Dutch and the Suisse had managed something before - on a small scale.

But these Americans were trying to create something on a large scale.

Sustainable.

I haven’t voted in person in years.  You linked to how to vote at the polling place.  But there are a bunch of other options, including voting by mail.

Are you being intentionally dishonest, or are you just ignorant?

TreeBeard, in what province do you vote?

====

Advance polls exist in Canada. Proxy voting too.

Increasingly, I prefer the idea of voting in person, check the ID and check the ballot. If someone can't do that, then they are not a civilised citizen.

=======

In Quebec, to vote, you must show at least a Health Card (Carte soleil). It has a photo.

This current 2022 American voting system reminds me of voting in America in the 1800s.

In the 1800s, parties handed out paper ballots and asked people to hand them in.

Ballots were counted by the number received.

And that's how Lincoln became President - and the US fell into a Civil War that could/should have been avoided.

Fetterman will win PA because of the way Dems collect ballots.

True, I may be wrong. Oz may have sufficient numbers. But I've seen how these "mail-in" ballot schemes work.

=====

Or maybe, Oz can also clue into buying votes.

Mail-in ballots. They destroy election integrity.

Pretty hard to steal an election this way.  When you take into account the complexity, and that the same people who are accused of doing this can't manage to deliver a long-gun registry or arrival app... it turns into a conspiracy theory.

In the title of this thread it states that the Republicans will keep the Federal House, meaning Congress?  They currently have a minority in congress, what am I missing August?

And Republicans have 50 seats on the Senate, so it’s not theirs to lose, technically.

Other than that, I agree with your assessment on mail in ballots.

Are you sure?

Why?

Republicans have been closing on Dems in the polls of the states you mention. Senate, Right?

Here's the RCP projection:

https://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2022/senate/elections-map-rcp-projection.html

Dems 48 Republicans 52.

You mentioned Arizona. That one's Interesting. Mark Kelly Versus Blake Masters.

That's one of the America First candidates Republican Senate leader, Mitch McConnel withdrew 8 million dollars in funding from. 80 year old Mitch knows Trump supported Republicans will vote against him as leader if they get in.

But Independent and America First money immediately flooded in to Blake's campaign in reaction to Mitch's slimy maneuvering of the Republican money.

So now if you're a resident of Arizona when you turn on your television you may see this ad financed without help from McConnell's old guard Republicans:

And Blake has been closing in on Kelly in the polls. So how sure are you really, that Masters can't win?

In Quebec, voting by mail is possible - but difficult. I once tried and my vote was excluded. (No joke...)

In Canada, like the UK, we vote for a single person in a riding. One cross/check, that's it.

In the US, you have to select/check many people: Governor, to Local Dog-Catcher: your ballot (like your tax form) is a nightmare.

In Canada, about 33% of voters pay no taxes at all.

Cut taxes? Meaningless.

Dental care?

Auguste - at some point soon work will almost be unnecessary.  How do you see society functioning at that point ?  Do you want a wealthy man with a top hat and monacle to still stride down the street and tell people what to do ?

Think a little bigger and share your thoughts...

Returning to my OP, Dems will keep/win the federal Senate because of the way votes are counted - State-wide.

The Republicans have gerrymanded House seats. It is their last hope.

In a sense, the senate is also gerrymandered to the benefit of Republicans. This is because the size of the state's population is immaterial. All states get 2 seats. And there are more small population, more rural states than there are large population urban states. This is to the benefit of Republicans who are much stronger among rural voters. California has 2 senators even though they have more people than Kentucky, Oregon, Oklahoma, Utah, Iowa, Nevada, Arkansas, Mississippi, Kansas, Nebraska, Idaho, West Virginia, New Hampshire, Montana, South Dakota, North Dakota, Alaska and Wyoming combined. But the latter states have 36 senators.

This was as it was designed by the founding fathers but I doubt they had any idea of just how wide the population variance was going to get in the future.

Nor are the senate and house equal. It is the senate which must approve judges. Since Republicans usually control the senate this explains why 6 of 9 judges are Republican.  It is the senate which must approve all senior appointments to government, too, including cabinet ministers.

I've always been a fan of science fiction. Many such novels depict the future as a place with a small number of intelligent, hard working people and a huge population of non-working people who sit in their apartments watching the future equivalent of tv, munching junk food and living off their monthly stipends from government. Since their votes always go to whoever promises them the most free stuff their corrupt government is perpetually on the edge of bankruptcy.

I wonder, as AI grows more powerful and eventually eliminates all unskilled and much skilled labor whether we're headed for such a future.

The list of tasks AI will likely take over includes all retail and most hospitality jobs, most driving jobs, including taxis, buses, trains and truck drivers, most construction jobs, including heavy equipment operators, and most military combat roles. It will also drastically cut down on the need for skilled professionals like accountants and lawyers. Entertainment could eventually see computer generated actors and actresses, starting with the porn industry (there goes my fantasy job).

What are we going to do with all those people who used to perform such jobs? They're not all going to be computer experts. Most won't have the desire, temperament or ability. Will they sit in their boxy apartments watching fake porn on their giant wall screens and not caring about the world?

Maybe we should try to encourage them to find their place, otherwise we'll pay them to breathe.

Or maybe those who propose such destructive nonsense, should be laughed at and identified for what they really are...at their core...

Destructive little shills for the dismantling of a functional society.
