Federal Government in a Surplus

That works out about $28.50 for each member of the LGBT community. Roughly the price of a case of a dozen bottles of Kokanee beer spread over the 5 year period of the grant.  That's 2 bottles of beer a year.

So what you’re saying is that $100 million is chump change and should be doled out as such to any group.  No.  Canada is a recklessly managed country.

People in the LGBTQ community pay taxes too.

And use all the same services all Canadians do and then get an extra $100 million??

What about pensioners?? What about Veterans? What about LTC patients??

Trudeau government's priorities are buggered up. Essentials should come long before nice to haves and political correctness.

If you feel you are on the wrong end of equalization, move to Newfoundland. ?

Move to Newfoundland? That's your answer?

As this sort of back-handed crap goes on, I don't blame Albertains one bit for wanting out of this confederation.

They pay and pay and pay...Its the old story in Alberta.

'We grow the grain...we pay to send it to Ontario to be made into bread...then we pay to have the bread shipped back to us.'

Something else someone whose attitude is rather flippant...without Alberta in confederation, Canada loses a TON of natural resource money. That includes farming. PLUS...how long would it take Saskatchewan and BC to leave as well?

But ya...move to Newfoundland...ha ha ha...

It's not fake news.

Our federal government is not in debt- and our provincial governments have collected claims.

The Caisse and the OMER, Teacher's. The Norwegian system. They have paper claims on future real returns.

Canada and Norway are solvent.

Older Norwegians - like many Canadians - expect that their pension scheme, paper money, will pay for their real care.

======

But we and they all rely on the Americans and their ability to solve their debt problems.

Not sure what your trying to say here, are you saying our nation does NOT have a deficit of over a trillion dollars.

And if thats true, we can spend what we want, with no repercussions, then why does Canada not look like Dubai with streets paved in gold...

You think they hand out cheques to gay people?

Missed it didn't you?

$100 million could go a long way to help a lot of people. The gay community is not one of them.

Pensioners, veterans, LTC and most of all, the health care system. All far more deserving that the gay community.

They hand out checks to communities for gay stuff: rainbow painted crosswalks, pro LGBTQ+ posters and jobs for LGBTQ+ people to make LGBTQ+ posters, that kind of thing.  Lots of verbiage about safe spaces and pronouns.  Money for Pride events so buddy can wave his jock in onlookers’ faces in his gimp outfit.  Your hard earned tax dollars at work.

And now, $100 million more.

As another point, it's irrelevant whether a government budget is in surplus or deficit.

Does it matter whether your ex-wife uses your credit card or your debit card?

It's still your money. And she's probably buying stupid stuff.

And you'll still have to pay it back somehow, or at least pay the ever rising minimum payments.

Or perhaps 50 MRI machines to be distributed to hospitals across Canada.

The point is, there is a surplus. It isn't because of anything the Government has done. It is caused by the global situation.

It just means more revenue came in than officially projected.  This is due to high fuel prices and taxes mostly.  The government also projects low in order to sound responsible later.  Really they overspend and produce the largest annual debts and deficits in Canadian history.
