A weak democracy is doomed

Recommended Posts

As witnessed here, a fine experiment and an example to remind us, yet again. When a democracy doesn't know anymore why it exists; forgot it principles and values; works only for entitlement and self-gratification it becomes weak. It whimpers and doesn't know what to do when toys and luxuries are taken away. It crawls and cries to get them back at any cost. And that's when the tyrants come, when Russias will come. No mistakes or surprises, they will. The mindless blissful ride will not go on forever.

Here? On this forum??

Democracy is about losing and winning. Some lose, some win. Ability for self gratification. Work and enjoy your success or don't and wallow in failure. It is your choice.

Your fear of Russians is overwhelming you. Take an anti anxiety pill LOL

Every once in a while, you so coherence and logic in your posts. This is not one of those posts. The only thing I get from your post is you don't like anyone else getting compensation for the service they provide. Why do you begrudge someone from being paid for their work. Do you work for free? Do you decline any benifits from your employment?

We have to bolster constitutional protections in Canada, especially free speech, but also freedom of assembly, medical discretion, the right to earn a livelihood, etc. People have forgotten how hard-won these rights are. They don’t understand that state power (Hobbes’ Leviathan) must be shackled by the people’s rights and power.  Many among the new generations coming up are so soft and over-sensitive that they think that people who disagree with their views should be banned or canceled.   This is reinforced by stakeholder capitalism, where big business and government reinforce each other’s power and justify it by claiming to speak for humanity.  In reality they are just amassing more power in relation to the people.

Freedom is now perceived by some, especially on the left, as a threat.  A threat to what?  Enslavement and oppression are the real threats.  Now that living standards are declining and the masses are being squeezed financially, people are realizing how they have been manipulated.  Woke language that claims the big oppression today is race/ethnicity-related and green language that claims the big threat is climate change are used by elites in corporations and governments to divert our attention from the real and present single biggest threat, which is economic and political servitude.

We’ve been had.  Anyone who speaks out against the authorities runs the risk of being called a climate change denier, a Covidiot, a racist, sexist, misogynist, conspiracy theorist, etc.  In reality you are being told not to speak freely or question power.  You are being silenced.  What’s especially counter-intuitive about this oppression is that it’s being led and reinforced by the left and those who have traditionally worn the progressive mantle.  In truth those people are no longer liberal.  They don’t support free speech, human rights, merit, and economic opportunity for all.   They’re the elites in self-preservation mode.

This is so wrong I can't even begin to describe. Did you mean, gratification given to self out of someone else's pocket without any transparency, checks or fairness, bounds of decency or even common sense? Are you, and I apologize too dim to not see the difference between that and "anyone", or deliberately misleading?

Yeah, like, tat makes no sense at all.

Let posters edit their own post?  So they can keep only things they agree with?

Yeah right LOL

And have the discussion all to themselves. This is called self-organization and self-regulation. Or the Great Leader and opaque bunch of his quasi democratic associates to cheer for. One or the other, left or right, blue or red but it has to be one, both together only an illusion aka bullshit. So you've got to choose one. And ignoring wouldn't work either.

Since your post was so vague and incoherent to a dim wit like me, I simply tried to interpret what you were trying to say. I apologize for not being more sensitive to the probability that English is not your first language. I interpreted your OP to be saying you are against people being paid and given benifits in exchange for their work. If that is not your meaning, perhaps you could clarify.

Currently, our governing system is working quite well.

I cannot believe you are actually more self absorbed, pompous, righteous and arrogant than I suspected in the past :)

Where are you reading this exactly? Are we in the same universe, by any chance? (speaking in English)

It is hard to say. You mentioned "entitlements." The rest was vague and rambling words.

Which democracy are you saying doesn't know why it exists?

Which democracy are you saying forgot its principles and values?

What do you mean by working for entitlement and self-gratification? Surely everyone does that to a certain extent.

What "toys and luxuries" have been taken away?

What is your solution to what ever it is you feel is the problem?

It does make sense to a degree. People will just stop posting on those threads if theirs are edited and they will just become echo chambers.

But then, this would allow us to see who is really democratic and who is only pretending to be.

Hard to say where you're reading it? But you're sure it has something to do with this topic?

The democracy or so it claims that has become all about pointless talking and getting into the chair to do more of that. If it isn't so, point one achievement, serious issue or problem that has been solved, a major innovation or improvement in the country recently. What if it doesn't exist? What if it's all about the chat from now on?

Missed one important word there. Try again?

Any

Not look for ready solutions because they do not exist. We have to find them and create them. If we choose to go to sleep blissfully in the hope that someone will take care of it for us, we will wake up to surprises. Not if only when.

The first major problem solved by our governments was the renegotiation of NAFTA, preventing the American attempt to gut it.

The second problem solved was the response by the governments to the Covid -19 pandemic, saving thousands of lives by implementing policies recommended by the Public Health professionals.

The third problem solved was convincing the US government to change it's proposed legislation that would have discriminated against NAFTA partners in the manufacture of electric vehicles and vehicle parts, to include NAFTA partners.

If I started a thread and removed posts that were filled with insults, expletives and gay porn, would I be un-democratic or setting a standard for discourse?

Just to be clear, I don't support the idea, but also don't think you can judge how democratic someone is based on posts they might delete.

I think the state of this site with its gay porn bombs is quite reflective of the decline of our civilization: moral repugnance, weak defence of important constitutional rights, massive power grabs by governments, corporations, and unaccountable international bodies, fake or highly self-censored speech in a culture of indoctrination, central planning, and state-funded/controlled media, weakened communities and families.  We’re under assault by anti-family values, Cultural Marxism, and downright nihilism.  Not even science is safe, as even the XY and XX chromosomes are being denied by those who claim that being a woman or man is offensive and entirely a social construct.

Basically we’re witnessing the denial of nature.  Once the state-approved morality is fed into the algorithms that we use to collect data and measure progress, we become slaves to the orthodoxy we manufacture. Frankenstein’s monster (A.I.) enslaves Dr. Frankenstein in a cage of the brave new politically correct norms.

Thank you, yes this is very characteristic and symptomatic of an entrenched and self-absorbed system to treat most routine and trivial events (e.g. a fart; update of a payroll system; or most recently a network update) as a major problem and a resounding feat of achievement. And it's not going to get any better for an obvious reason that there's no feedback from the reality.

And that too is characteristic. Of course one could use objective criteria, comparing results and costs by which it would be little short of chaotic; confusing and contradictory; ineffective (retirement homes); obscure; overreaching without a slightest need for and in the end achieved the same or similar results as more sound and far less restrictive policies. But, there's no feedback from the reality, remember? So you can call it the best in the Universe itself, like in China or Russia or almost there's no limits (who here has any checks or limits, please!).

This forum need a couple more moderators who can delete posts, ban users & their IPs. It also needs to be set so new members must reply to a few posts before they can post links, images or start new threads.

All those controls are in the Invision settings....

and it still won't stop the spam. I hosted a few forums on my old server bank and ran a few myself. I gradually booted and closed the all, they're just too much trouble to maintain w/o active moderator help.

I don't know who'd be sick enough to spam a political forum with porn. This person should be charged.. it's disgusting

Saving thousands of jobs is hardly trivial.

The US suffered their worst catastrophe in their history with covid. The Canadian response saved 60,000 Canadian  lives. ( US 10 times larger)
