On top of everything else - why are we inviting abortion-seekers to come to Canada?

At what point are we talking about more than one person in your opinion?   China committed partial birth abortions of viable fetuses — babies — just prior to the natural birth delivery date.  That’s perfectly legal in Canada too.  Don’t care?   Woman’s body, her choice?

Legal or not, except in extreme circumstances, abortions are not done in Canada past 20 weeks. That is reality.

I already know of factual counter-examples.  You can’t point to individual rights without confronting the fact of more than one person’s interests.  Many states draw the line at first trimester.  States can draft any kind of legislation they want for abortion.  It’s no longer a federal matter.  In Canada it is and there are no legal limitations on gestation period.

Not legal but there are definite limitations. Canadian clinics and doctors do not do abortions past 20 weeks other than in exceptional circumstances. Women who wanted them have had to go elsewhere.

In Canada the criminal code is federal. Provinces could not make it a crime even if the SC hadn’t ruled.

Men like to talk about abortion as a birth control measure. Maybe men should take their own responsibility for birth control. Of course, they won't, they will just talk about it and blame women when they get pregnant..

And here I thought this was a women-only choice, or so the narrative goes, "my body my choice" so who really has the ultimate choice, who owns the responsibility for taking birth control, women. Now if you are both responsible adults, then both should ensure some protection is being taken. and not have to rely on a medical procedure as a primary choice..

As you just said, ultimately it is all on the woman so why shouldn't it be her choice? Why should men get to decide for her when they do not bear responsibility?

Because we live in a democratic society, or did you think that just the women in parliament got to vote on making abortion legal here in Canada. We should be able to talk about any topic that our nation has laws on. It's how we solve problems in our nation through discussion. As the laws impact all of us.

Health care is a provincial jurisdiction. Whatever Trudeau says, provinces will decide what services they give to Americans unless the Feds are willing to pay for it.

And yes it is concerning that there might be a flood of people coming into Canada for medical procedures when our medical system is already stressed to the breaking point.

How does who jurisdiction it is going to reflect on health care systems across the nation are stressed to the breaking point? And Justin won't do anything for Canadians what makes you think he is going to give more funds to the provinces for US citizens. Besides Canadians will just grin and bare it anyways, do they even care enough about health care?

This law only impacts women. Men can discuss it all they want and then walk away and leave women with the problem.

Provinces have no obligation to give health care to Americans regardless of what Trudeau says.

The state has a role to prevent the bodily harm of people.  At what point are we talking about more than one person than the mom?  There was a lot of argument on here about the importance of sacrificing individual discretion over vaccination for the well-being of others.

Because all men do that, because couples don't exist in your world.

Your 100 % right, but I don't see us shutting the border down to American women, do you?

The heart of the matter. If we force our women to breed we won't have to worry about being 'replaced'. Yes such an honourable motive to outlaw abortions.

Lol - who's forcing our women to breed?

Let's not get so dramatic here.  The heart of the matter. There is no longer any excuse for anyone to get pregnant in the first place, if they don't want to. NONE!  Look at all the variety of contraceptives!

it impacts the unborn child as well

women are not the only one's involved

the idea that only women should determine abortion law

is both sexist and asinine

The subject is not if abortion being good or bad, it's about the false premise that Canada is "inviting" women here to have one.

I knew you'd think so. Misogynist.
