no it isn't

the disposal of them is harming you

that's a disposal issue

it is perfectly possible to use plastic bags without harming anyone

the bags aren't the problem

I disagree. Creating the plastic bags are harming me and my environment, not just the disposal.

how?

The sucking out of oil + the energy used to create the products = more pollution and damage to the planet and ecosystem.

hurting your feelings doesn't count

I recommend that you try being more open to technology, progress and solutions, rather than being fueled by identity politics. It may bring more calm into your life and less of this aggressiveness.

OK. I am very open to "technology, progress and solutions".

Please explain to me how any of those 3 will be helped by banning certain plastics in Canada by the end of this year (topic)?

What technology will supplant the plastics?

What progress is being made and in what capacity?

What solutions are being presented except to ban certain plastics that are not even the biggest users of plastic?

Not being aggressive but these are very valid questions. Political correctness will not solve a problem as it is, at best, only  public relations hype.

"sale of plastic bags and takeout containers" and " plastic cutlery and stir sticks will also be prohibited at that time. Plastic flexible straws " does what in the scale of plastic usage.

Don't say it is a start. That is like saying Canadas' carbon tax is a start for world climate change when Canada is one of the smallest producers of atmospheric carbon.

Oh and, I am very much in favour of banning plastics. I have personally seen the shit that is in the oceans and the damage it does. Are you aware that the biggest ocean pollution item is cigarette filters? Why don't we ban them? If you are goign to ban plastics, start with things that have real impact like packaging.

whatever control freak

if you want people to stop using plastic bags

make some bags they want more

not use the government to force them to use bags they want less

that's what a real environmentalist would do

clearly you're a fake who just wants to use the environment as justification for government power grabs

We started charging 10p for single use bags.

The use of them fell by about 95% overnight.

Everyone uses ''bags for life'' now instead.

so stop charging extra then

if the only way to sell your choice

is to punish perfectly legitimate choices

then your choice wasn't that good in the first place

and you need to improve it before more people switch

when your only solution is government intervention

you discredit the cause you claim to fight for

and turn more people against it

They did.

They preached the virtues of ''bags for life'' for years to little effect.

Once they imposed a tax (I think it was actually 5p when it started) people changed their habits quickly.

I have some heavy duty Lidl shopping bags that must be five years old at least.

You can tax the worst polluters out of existence and save people money at the same time just by changing habits.

Don't even get me started on adults who need a plastic straw to drink alcohol.

I would say the most plastic I use is shrink wrap

every pallet load has to be fully shrink wrapped

it's literally tons upon tons of plastic tossed into massive garbage trucks, just by me alone

that is a confiscatory tax which is not the purpose of taxes

attempts to misuse taxation for ideological purposes undermines support for taxation itself

Calm down Boston Tea Party.

Taxes can be used for good as well as evil.

We get government sauce on the farm for not ripping up hedgerows and exterminating the wildlife. We even get a bit of extra cash for a rare orchid which grows on the back meadow.

If we've got money for war...

that is what is happening as a result of leftists trying to use taxation as a weapon

public support for taxation has dropped massively over the decades

taxes are actually lower than they've ever been

thus why the government is forced to print money in order to fund its overreach

so I was just pointing out that you are actually losing this war and why

The big bales of hay get wrapped to make haylage for the cows and there's enough plastic to half fill a skip every year.

It's not pretty.

I am industrial shrink wrapping

there are machines which auto shrink wrap pallets for me

so I'm loading with a forklift, then wrapping at the push of a button

even as an Anti-Enviromentalist, I still cringe at the amount of plastic waste I produce in a single shift

but since you are going to use taxation as a weapon, I will never support the Environmentalist cause

I bet if shrink wrap was twice the price the bean counters would be telling you to use less.

there are companies like that

but it's unsafe

I've quit jobs because a company used too little or no shrink wrap on their pallets

I'm not assuming the liability of an unstable load being dumped on pedestrians

safety requires that I have the option to slam on the brakes if somebody darts in front of me

without the wrap, the load  will go flying

if companies all started scrimping on shrink wrap

I think the unintended consequences would come crashing down on low wage employees

And made the major retailers a ton of money.

You think they are concerned? Hardly, they sell at  10 cents a bag they pay .00001 per bag. Biggest profit margin in the store.

It not about the money. It's about using less single use plastic.

I bow to your knowledge on industrial shrink wrap.

Apparently they use stars and stripes plastic to wrap their hay in the former colonies.

A more colourful vista in the countryside at least than our dour black.

it does have unique properties which make it indispensable for the logistics required to run the economy

I wonder how we managed before it came along?

Nice sisal ropes and nets probably.

You could turn all that government hemp into rope.
