bear in mind, there was a time when I was NDP

my parents were Socialists, I was raised to be a Communist revolutionary

I knew Jack Layton personally, he was a friend of my father's

but this NDP now, they have abandoned the working classes

which will obviously be their undoing

as Canada has no need for a second Liberal Party

hasta la victoria siempre, comrades

the most pathetic thing about the so called Canadian left ?

they are a bunch of bourgeois sellouts to the corporate elites, and always have been

down on their knees, begging the Liberals for scraps

they would not kill, they would not die, for the World Socialist Revolution

they are filthy disgusting cowards, without courage of conviction

this is what drove me away, from the pathetic lick spittle cronies of the NDP

if you are going to be a leftist, go all the way

or burn in a fire of your making as the traitors against the workers that you are

it is coming, the worm is turning against the phony "Socialists" who serve the elites

Would of been bigger mess if didn't give them pandemic support

Just over half of the 450 billion spent on pandemic support actually went to people and business , so where did the other half go, liberals will not release where the funding went to...

I hope your not suggesting the Conservatives would have just said fuck you your on your own...

I aslo hope you don't think that the liberal plan was the best option, there are many holes in the plan to many of tax dollars just thrown away, like those that did not qualified but were paid anyways, got to keep that money, or the 1/2 million Canadian kids who received CERB while living at home with parents making in excess of 120 k a year, but don't have to pay that back...the list goes on... it was rushed into service without much thought, and was not fixed at all despite the flaws.

NDP backing the EA was a knife in the back. Layton never would have gone along with it. I won't be supporting them again.

I think you're starting to see it though. Melanchon was awfully close to #2 this time around in France. Most of his supporters despise the center as much as the far-right. Not sure if it'll ever come to Canada, but the centrists have completely lost touch with the working class.

It's too bad that parties with different economic policies tend to have wacko social policy. I'm not sure why the two have to go hand in hand.

yeah, Jack was not a bad guy

he was a Christian

he was United Church

he wasn't a fire breathing Orange Protestant like me

but he was spiritual, he believed in a higher power, an ultimate higher purpose

I remember when I first met him, riding his bicycle, wearing a long raincoat, with his old fashioned mustache

it was at Trinity Bellwoods Park in Toronto

my father introduced me to Jack, I was just a teenager

I thought he was kind of a dork, I wasn't that impressed

but whatever, he meant well, he was just naive

it's shocking how fast the NDP has gone from Jack to being cronies for the state corporate totalitarians

I honeslty think Jack would be frightened by the elitist abomination that the NDP has become is such a short time

The Provinces, which are mainly conservative, gave support money too. Both are to "blame"
Yeah governments (provincial and federal) were far too eager to give hand outs and paid no mind to control. Now it is too late to get it back. Major fail.

There is as much truth to that statement as "Justins wife is doing the entire security detachment"...of course i pulled that out my ass....It would not matter if the bloc was in charge, Canadians would have got the help they needed, or would have been punted...it may have looked different but the help would have been there...

Lol glad you think so conservatives are called cons for short for a reason there's very few people in the party that are decent since the 2003 reform merger

to understand the Jack Layton Boomer NDP

you have to look past them to an American-Canadian named Jane Jacobs

Jane Jacobs was the most influential Toronto leftist of them all

Jack Layton & Co all followed the Guru Jane Jacobs

she came from New York City

and she came for Toronto the Good

at first to save us from the Allen Expressway extension

can you imagine the Allen Expressway cutting through the downtown core now ?

Jane Jacobs at the very least saved Toronto from that

I don't think any one party has the perfect solution to all that is wrong with our country, or the balls to tackle it... but to think Justin liberals are better is fantasy, perhaps you can give us a small list of the liberals note worthy accomplishments in the last 8 or more years. I'll give you one he made grass legal....your turn...Justin is more like lets kick that down the road...

Right now most Canadians are still hoping any government will do something, anything...It is time for change...and the NDP are not ready....and the greens are racist wingnuts.

it has nothing to do with that

Canadian politics are inherently corrupted

because Canada itself is a corrupt enterprise

keep the French in, the Americans out, and the Indians down

Ontario bribes Quebec with Alberta's money

a Company Town run by Robber Barons to the interest of foreign powers

we only fight other peoples wars, never our own

we are merely passengers on this ship of fools

Gordie knows

You do know you have to make less than 36k a year to qualify right...and is age limited rights now , and there are only a limited amount of spaces available right now, and won't be fully introduced until 2025 and to all ages.  i think...Even fishermen make more than 36 K...

I met Jack and thought the world of him.  Any party would be lucky to have him and they all knew it.  I still remember the applause in Parliament when Harper thanked Jack for his committee work.  The guy was sincere and worked his ass off.  They don’t make ‘em like that anymore.

I want a social conservative AND a fiscal conservative. End this creepy Marxist-nihilist dictatorship in Canada. End ridiculous soul-destroying policies like vaccine mandates and Nazi digital vax passes.  Stop teaching young children racist ideas like that they are victims or oppressors based on superficial qualities like skin colour (CRT).

Zeitgeist,

You seem like a libertarian.

I prefer slow change.

When I look around the world, Canada - this place on the world - has managed well because we change, but carefully.

========

In Canada, since 1750 or so, we speak French and English, we are Catholic and Protestant.

And we get along.

Unlike the Americans, we have avoided a Civil War.

And unlike the so-called civilised Europeans who fight/kill each other every decade or so.

I think Canada has lost the plot of late.  Too controlling and woke.  Strange corrupting values:  grooming kids in poly-gender identification and sexual orientation, assisted suicide for mentally ill people, waning free press and speech, playing loose with martial law, a constitution that’s too easily violated, a court system that seems to green light government overreach, overspending on non-essential new programs in a time of extreme debt and inflation, constant defamation of the nation as colonial and oppressive, the chill of cancel culture and racial determinism…. The cost of living is skyrocketing and our government seems intent on stoking fear over Covid and climate change.

We are not as strong a country as we were.  I don’t think we’re careful.  I think our government is compulsively controlling and the public are too warn out and fearful to push back.  They only have to look at the trucker convoy to see the price of resistance.  Compromised and waning democracy.
