Is Putin losing his mind?

Is there a compelling reason why lefties and righties shouldn't be trying to eliminate one another?  This struggle between Russia and Ukraine seems to be encompassing two primary competing visions for the future, one in which raw power determines the shape of society and one in which it doesn't.  I realize both sides imagine it's entirely the other side that's in the wrong but so what if it just doesn't matter?

Why not just bury all the goddamn hatchets and get it out of our systems?  Is there a way to apply sanctions against an ideology that works that might keep us away from each other's throats? I suppose we should at least try that before someone finally says...

You believe vandalizing a Russian theater in Vancouver is the way to go?

No, I'd rather vandalize right-wing targets.

Yeah, vandalism seems called for when snipers are deployed to kill civilians

Another point: why is it 'lefties' who are doing this ?  Polls are showing an equal amount of revulsion against this barbarism from conservative and liberal voters.

The conspiracy folks may actually have to shut up soon, imagine how great that will be...

So pro vandalism then? Not surprised

Trudeau is a master at diversion and evading answering questions:

After his audience with Johnson, Trudeau then attended a joint press conference with the British leader and Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte. There, foreign reporters quickly noticed that the Canadian prime minister doesn’t actually answer questions from the press .

To wit …

  • When asked about whether Canada would be boosting its military budget to meet the NATO spending target of two per cent of GDP: “We need to make sure that the women and men in the Canadian Armed forces have all the equipment necessary to be able to stand strongly, as we always have as members of NATO.”
  • When asked whether Canada would be using its petroleum sector to help Europe lessen its dependence on Russian oil: “We need to move forward on decarbonizing our economies, but we need to do that in a way that supports people through that process and we’re going to continue doing that.”
  • When asked about the effectiveness of sanctions in curbing Russian aggression: “The courage of the Ukrainians in standing up to the Russian invaders has inspired and humbled us all and we need to show ourselves as determined to push back against Putin.”  -  MSN News

Canadian governments have been neglecting the proper financing and maintaining of the Canadian Forces for decades.  CAF is a very weak disaster.  About 1988 Canada's military was about 83,000 but in 2018 it was about 73,000.  Dropped 10,000.  Even 83,000 with little air force and navy is nothing to be proud of.  We have a very small air force and maritime force.  Canada's contribution to NATO was supposed to be a minimum of 2% of GDP but has consistently been far below that at 1.4%.  So Canada sent a few hundred soldiers to Europe to join NATO.  Can't really claim that as much of a deterrent.

Trudeau is good at talking a tough line, but Canada has no real force to back up it's words.   Don't expect much change with Liberals or Trudeau.  They are busy fighting global warming and making Canada a net zero carbon emitter.

quote

Richard Shimooka, a senior fellow with the Macdonald-Laurier Institute, said that if war should break out, Canada’s military is far from fighting shape.

“Everywhere you look, the military either has a personnel crisis or a capability crisis,” he said.

As an example, he points to Canada missing about two-thirds of its pilot strength, as well as critical shortages in key positions such as navy radar and sonar operators.

“Our army’s in a really bad state because they’ve been over-deployed,” Shimooka said.

“The problem has never been that Canada has never been able to commit more, it’s about how much is Canada willing to spend on the capability.”

Much of Canada’s equipment — most notably its fleet of largely obsolete CF-18s — is nearing or already exceeded its useful life.

“What can Canada do?” he asked.

“Realistically, not much.”

Leuprecht said Canada’s inclusion in the process is vital to interests both local and abroad, particularly since Putin’s appears to be pivoting the conflict into a dialogue with the United States to decide the future of Europe.

Europe’s importance to Canada is also rooted in many of our shared values and interests, Leuprecht said, adding that it’s important Canada ensure it plays a role in deterring a full-out conflict."

"

Shimooka counters Canada’s positioning of itself as a mediator in the conflict, saying nobody’s looking to us as any credible voice of reason.

“There’s always been the impulse within Canada to be a constructive-middle-ground peacemaker, but Canada has no currency or heft to undertake that kind of role,” he said.

“We’re not considered a big player, no matter what our government tries to tell us.”

Watch for the fake news mill to slow now...

Not sure if the useful idiots here who trust Putin more than domestic news will notice it not.

It seems like Tucker Carlson has backed off though.

Joe Xiden is far scarier to Putin.

It's the neocons who are pushing war with Russia.  It doesn't change the fact Putin is a monster, but there are the globalist nation building elements who see their interests met by duking it out with Russia.

Nope it's really only the fate of hard-boiled right-wing conservatives that doesn't matter to me.

Putin and his oligarch cronies have proven they are brutal savages as their army shells and bombs children's hospitals, apartment buildings, civilians trying to flee, and anything they can find.  This is the nature of Communists.  They have no moral compass or humanity.  They would kill anybody.  They killed about 100 million people in the 20th century.  No wonder the Ukrainians are willing to fight to the bitter end to stop these barbarians.

I just heard that the Russians are making the false claim that Ukraine has been making chemical weapons.  Ukraine denies this.  Maybe the Russians are referring to the Molatov cocktails, a bit of gas in a bottle used to try to start a fire.  Useless things that have nothing to do with chemical weapons.  Some are speculating the Russians might use this for a pretext to attack the populations of the Ukraine with chemical weapons.  I think this would push the war closer to WW3 between Russia and the west.  It might be crossing a red line that the west would not be willing to tolerate.  It would certainly be a huge increase in crimes against humanity and genocide.  I am not sure NATO would tolerate watching women and children be gassed to death by the thousands or millions.  But I would not be surprised if the Communists try it.  There is no war crime beneath their thinking.

Citations about the dead children.  At least YOU acknowledge communist Russia was a bad thing.  Most lefties praised Putin and wanted to surrender.

I am not a lefty.  Been a member of the Conservative Party for 30 years.  It has been reported on the news they bombed a children's hospital and a women's birth hospital.  They found a few bodies, but there may be more under the rubble.

Trudeau says Russia will lose the war against the Ukraine.  What will Trudeau do if Russia uses chemical weapons on the civilians of the Ukraine?  So far they have been bombing the civilians, apartments buildings and everything possible.  NATO is powerless to stop them.  What will they do if the Russians start using chemical weapons?  Can the determined Ukrainian men keep fighting if tens of thousands of civilians are dying from chemical weapons?  Do you have any suggestions?

In all due respect I am glad you vote Conservative but I think you might be one of those people who THINK they are conservative.  Like GWBush.  But are not.
