How can we De-Fringe University Professors?

Universities and Academics are Becoming a Cult

I've been saying it for a very long time. The universities are the problem. A four year degree is basically perpetual debate class. Student's aren't interested in getting medical or engenieering degrees, so they go into the humanities. In humanies one professors feeds off the energy of his students. Unlike Elementary Education, where teachers must abide by a  well-regulated provincial curriculum, the professor is free to drift into any area he wants. So the professors are beggining to act like cult-leaders, feeding off their students warship. They develop "save the world" persons, where the students try and outbid themselves for progressive idea.... Anyone whos concerned with capitalism, or running a business get's demoralized.

We drift into fields like "Gender Studies" where we have actualy debates over a 100 made up genders, and how the miss-appropriation can be harmful to any persons identity. Instead of universities becoming progressive, they have become regressive, but sub-diving our concepts of reality so far theres no more universal compatitability.

50 years ago, no one would tolerate those kind of degrees.

See underversity professors have become narcasists, instead of educators. It's caused a generation of spoiled graduates, who think the government constantly shortchanges society by underfunding entitled interests groups, instead of ahearing too fiscal-resposibly that will protect the overall health of future generations.

How do we teach students, that more government spending is bad, and less government spending is good?

I've been reaching lots of students and people in the media, talking about how "Angry White Truck drivers, are unhappy their privelege is being taking away." How do we wake these millennials up, and make them realize their part of a really dangerous cult.

This is nothing new. Remember the chaos at Simon Fraser in the early 1970's. Students were afraid to be associated with SFU.

Do you seriously think a prof has that much impact on the political biases of their students? I was a university student for seven years. The job of a professor is to be there to lecture, answer questions and give guidance, but primarily, it is research. In the Arts, things are a bit different than in the sciences. In the sciences, 2 + 2 = 4. In history, there are more than one answer. A prof will say William Stevenson (Intrepid) established an Intelligence service that won the war.

The student will counter that Stephenson was a fantasist and a liar who took credit for other peoples' work and was sent to the USA to mitigate any further damage to the British war effort.

The prof say's "Prove it." That is how we learn history. Not from the professor, but from the library.

Most students are left wing. It was that way when I was at UVic in the late 60's and 1970's, and when my father was at UBC in the 1920's. It is amazing how many socialists become conservative by the time they are 40. I was an outlier. I was always a conservative and always will be. That doesn't make me smart, just rigid.

University for seven years . . . ?

Did you learn anything that would enable you to earn $1.49 or more . . . ?

You mistake a university for a trade school. ?

I learned 18 ways to spike a 16th century cannon. I learned Frederick the Great played the flute. I learned that Canada's only fully developed war plan in the 1920's was Defence Scheme No. One, the plan to invade the United States.

I earned a degree in Military History and Strategic Studies and a second degree in Psychology. It got me a job in two major banks and finally a career as a Peace Officer for 25 years.

When is the last time a dumb person made an important contribution to society in science or technology?

'Dumb' is a dumb term but in any case all people have value and indeed something important to contribute.  It is the smartest folks I know who realize this.

In any case, you are engaging with someone who unapologetically admitted that his culture disrespects, teachers, doctors and so on.  So don't feel you need to justify looking down your nose at dumb people: they look down at people for having soft hands believe it or not...

My point was not to look down on people who aren’t the inventors and scientists….  I am one of the “dumb” to whom we refer!

My point is simply that it is the intellectual elite who have invented everything.  They cure our headaches, invent the machines we use and keep our histories organized in our libraries!

Should we not appreciate the people who put in the hard work and who were blessed with the intellectual capacity to do this work for the rest of us?

1. Celebrate humanity, yes good.
2. I feel that there's a wall, wherever this NF Banana lives I suppose, where people are hurting and are putting blame on people for their shitty situation.  My best guess.  But there's also the possibility that they are just projecting their values on their community.

Nice projection Michael.

Run along now, and don't forget your hand lotion.  ?

I loved history. Most fields require a right answer. Human Geography has its variables, but physical geography is pretty cut and dried. Iraq will always be in the same place, unless you are an American general or President.

But in history you can say anything and there will always be some documents to support your thesis.

Social sciences and humanities can be corrupted by whomever.  Subjective subjects.   With climate change we've even seen science corrupted by politics.

Obviously not. I am a prime example.

That's encouraging to dropouts.  They forced me go to free school at Rochdale. Hell's Angels provided security.

I gave high school a try but with class sizes averaging 50 students it was nothing but paper-planes and spitballs all day long. I hated school but to be fair I think school hated me too. I opted for work instead and it wasn't long before I fled to the west coast.

This starts at an early age. We've been teaching our kids about nebulous crap that has no business in our kids heads. They forsake fundamentals for indoctrination. An army of "leftists". Social warriors. Thank Gawd I taught my kids to think logically instead of emotionally.

As for "academia"...its lost its gleam. Its authority. The academic world has infiltrated the sciences and given pure science, a rotten streak. Now, of course, many people can't even "believe the science" anymore. They've discredited...themselves.

I started a Computer Science curriculum back in the early 80's. Dropped out at the end of the second semester to engage in raw capitalism...and to help out with my father's failing mechanical shop. Had some good success and moved on. Today, I'm a manager at one of the world's biggest IT companies. Almost all others I work with at my current level, have degrees. Very few of them can honestly be called "smart".

Education can't really make one "smart". All it can do is provide people with the tools to be "smart".

And its been failing miserably for decades.
