I'm sure people could adapt if they had to, Bad job performance should be handled the same way it is now, fire they're ass. Business die and are reborn all the time, massive shortage in living spaces ... PIK you sound like you got a bit of military in you, the three S's (shit, shower and shaved)....Pay cuts, not sure why, could be consider a pay raise. Imagine no concrete to pay , no utility bills for, more money for other things like chase better talent , or other things I'm sure that job performance can be increased somehow.
