Let's be honest here. The mayor of Ottawa overreacted and shut down the mall.

Now they are refusing to allow a permit for porter potties.

Their strategy appears to be deny basic necessities in hopes they go away. Very Canadian

Yup they’re putting the squeeze on the protesters.

You still don’t get it.  Our Charter of Rights and Freedoms has been totally violated. Your protections are gone.  The pandemic is being used as an excuse to oppress people. You can’t excuse the government from violating the rights of people you don’t like, because at some point you may need your rights to be protected.  “I may not agree with what you say, but I’ll fight to the death for your right to say it.”

The Brits and most Americans won’t stand for vaccine mandates.  If we accept them we’re less free as citizens to make decisions for ourselves.  This should be obvious. Our persistent mandates make Canada second rate. We must not treat unvaccinated people this way and we must not require that people prove that they are vaccinated to have basic freedoms.  Of course!

Your Charter of Rights and Freedom doesn't say anything about the rights of people of Ottawa to safety and security and peace?

People who oppose the health restrictions and mandates in Canada should go spend some time in China and see how they deal with Covid.  Their priority is saving lives, not unlimited freedom for everyone.  They lockdown cities of 12 million people and nobody is allowed to go out of their apartment for two weeks.  That really puts the brake on Covid spread.  No fooling around.  Anybody who doesn't follow the order goes to jail.  Everyone wears a mask on the street, not just in a store or business.  One man interviewed said he had to have an anal swab every two days.  Said it was very uncomfortable. These protesters or occupiers would be thrown in jail.  They don't know what freedom and restrictions mean.  Most people have had it very easy in Canada compared with China.

Sweden has had over 15 thousand deaths.

Italy’s death per million rate is almost three times that of Canada and they had some of the harshest restrictions in the world. I think what this shows is there are a number of factors that are at play and not just the restrictions one area placed.

They’re a bit inconvenienced.  They haven’t lost their livelihoods and they can enter restaurants and enjoy most basic freedoms that the unvaccinated can’t (if they show their digital vaccine passport).

End all mandates and restrictions.  It’s the only viable answer.

Lots of things different about Italy.  I am sure there are certain factors that determine the spread of the virus.  So if the factors are different in one place, then the spread will be different.

What qualifications do you have to say all health measures should end?  Nothing.

The wave has come and is now diminishing with or without restrictions.  The ICU’s aren’t full, and most of our staff shortages are the result of making asymptomatic people isolate.  We have to stop worrying about whether or not people have or get Covid.  It’s everywhere and has a mild impact on most people.  Focus resources on providing the best treatments to really sick people and continue to promote protections, but lift mandates and let people use their judgment rather than letting government dictate.  Britain, Denmark, most of the US, and soon France are lifting restrictions and mandates.  It’s time.

Do you make any distinction between those losing jobs as a result of disruptions the pandemic caused and those who were forced to lose jobs by government vaccination mandates?   It is two completely different things.

Vaccine mandates don't force people to lose their job. 90% or more get vaccinated and continue working.  It's the small minority that make the choice not to get vaccinated and chose to lose their jobs.  Stupid decision.  Mandates are there to protect people from getting Covid.

Actually, it does. Extortion of those that do not vaccinate by the government is exactly why they "loose" their job without consent.

If the vaccine was only "recommended" and not enforced, your argument may hold weight. But it is enforced, without consent, court hearing or ability to appeal.

Do you read what you write?

What you wrote above clearly states that the vaccination mandate leaves people jobless unless they roll up their sleeves against their will.

Right, so they were forced to lose their jobs because of the mandate..

If I recall about 25% didn't want to take the vaccine, but were forced to either do so or lose their livelihood.

If the field you work in has implemented mandates everywhere, you lose more than your job. You lose your profession.

Many wouldn't have gotten the shot except that the employer imposed a mandate, and said either get it or no more workies for you. Doesn't mean they like it or agree.

They made the punishment untenable for most people to accept in such a short order.  Some would call that blackmail.

In some workplaces people have to sign a new employment contract where they agree to take each and every shot the health authority and/or employer deems necessary. That means all inoculations they deem necessary, and as frequently as they deem necessary. Once you sign that, they literally own your ass.

Yep, mandating a vaccine today; mandating that one rolls up her skirt to the boss tomorrow.

I see no difference whatsoever.

Yeah I hope the protests multiply.  These control freaks are destroying our democracy.

For its bravery, this action will not be sufficient to address the main problem: total and absolute absence of any checks on the executive authority; absence of any mechanisms to prevent government overreach and abuse of power.

Trueduas can do "just watch me" again; and again; and again. Just watch them is what you do, what else can you do and is there anything else you could?

If this problem is not solved, the democracy will diminish, erode and collapse. Already on the way there. Just watch this sad parody on free independent media.

The country is becoming a sad and dim place, with no bright prospects in sight.

Exactly. That’s why it’s tough to consider any rates between countries based solely on one parameter like lockdowns

So women being violently harassed is just an inconvenience in your book!!!!!!!!!

If true as aired by Ottawa councilor last night then those who commit these acts against women in Ottawa must be prosecuted to the full extend of the law for sedition and violence.
