Your Property Rights Use it or Lose It

Recommended Posts

What does this mean, we have no property rights, use it or lose it?   Is this, we will expropriate your property so we can jam in  some high density housing.  Live in a nice area with a double severed lot, own a piece of land you are waiting to build on, nope, we will take it ?   This is expropriation taken from the Russian Bolshevik revolution of 1917.   If the government officials like your property and you don’t want to sell it they can deem it  'not used properly'   so can take it away from you.

We will also work with municipalities within this program to identify vacant or underused property that should be converted to housing on the principle of use it or lose it – that core urban land should be available for new housing, not left vacant as an unproductive investment property.

Rights are being systematically busted.   That's what it is.

The key descriptor is "core urban". Often buildings are boarded up and left vacant in urban core areas by speculators. This leads to dangerous fire traps, erosion of our urban fabric and a waste of serviced infrastructure.

There are more effective, more democratic and less totalitarian methods to achieve the same, such as regulations, oversight, fines and other financial incentives and disincentives. But someone wants a quick fix and if not working in reality then at least to show on paper at election time and has a lot of unchecked and unaccountable power. And that is a bad combination (for the society) that way more often led to authoritarianism than to effective solutions of complex problems.

One glance in any city tells instantly that there's no problem with elite condo housing, it's booming. The problem is that the market is distorted, under current incentives it pays more to build top market condos for speculation than regular and low income housing. And the bureaucracy had all the authority and tools for decades to create right incentives the problem is, it doesn't know what to do, in simple words, clueless. And so the regular adage, give us more powers, quick panacea, easy scapegoats. See how well it worked already, "fixed for a generation"!

Canada does not have property rights period, our government takes land from legal owners all the time for what it deems as essential, when they expanded the Trudeau airport farmers land were purchased for what the government thought it was worth, the New JTF compound in Trenton seen farmers again loss their land and paid below market value.. they want to drive a highway through you land good luck.

Not only land , but personal processions as well take Justins new fire arms policy, they are going to make you a one time offer to purchase your firearms that they declared illegal, well under market value... and in some cases they do not make any offers to purchase they just seize it.

What it means is we never had property rights to begin with. and the government can deem anything illegal at any time, without any need to prove to you why. Look at Justins excuses to collect fire arms, all based on lies or misinformation...

Yup, and they don't explain what this use it or lose it really means, and how these fears of Trudeau's dictatorial tendencies are not conspiracy theories.    Lately this is nothing but a thinly veiled attempt to impose socialism on us, we should all be equally poor.    What's in your wallet.

Yeah, afaik every government in the world does that.  One can only imagine the chaos if it couldnt.

I think your missing the entire point here, there are NO property rights in Canada, and this is not common practice in every country, in most western countries the owner can refuse an offer, lots of examples of this in the US. In Canada you can take the government to court, but it is going to be expensive and in the end your going to have to abandoned your land, goggle the guy that lost his land in Trenton Ont because of a new JTF compound, see what he got for his land, that had been in his family for 4  or 5 generations...But it does not stop there with land, it can be any thing you own.. such as fire arms, and the government does not have to make a cash offer at all as they have done in the past...all that need to happen is they pass some form of legislation, and poof you are a criminal for owning something...
