Ontario needs to invest in EVs as a realistic Option.

You feel the same about taxes on tobacco, I assume?

Why should the price of pollution be free?

You can always elect governments that share your Libertarian views.

As a matter of fact...yes...I do think tobacco taxation in the name of social engineering is terrible.

Nothing is "free" son. Everything at a cost. And these asinine ideas that we should trash the base of the global economy, and BTW, the base of our's, before we have a viable replacement, is...in a word...STUPID!!!

I will vote for the politician who understands ALL SCIENCE and not this selective fairydust crap being shoveled right now.

The ones that think Coal is fine and we shouldn't transition away from Fossil Fuel usages.

Nobody said burning coal is fine. I happen to know its cleaner than most people realize, but that's because I used to work for Westinghouse Power and have built the control systems for coal and nuclear sites.

Now...those who are serious about leading, do NOT say that coal is fine. They say that trashing the economy before we can replace what's already in place is...STUPID!!!

What part of this escapes you?

Ontario hasn't been with Coal for over a decade. Is the economy Trashed?

Coal only accounts for 7% of Canada's Grid.

You're not really debating at all. You just go ad hominem when you can't come up with a reasonable response.

Like I said...plank.

One more time...with feeling...

If the question is, 'Should Ontario taxpayer money be spent putting up charging stations for EVs?' My answer is, maybe a little. But it seems to me that's something for the economy and business to do. THAT we can debate.

But when you go spewing forth bullshit about some magnificent forced transition to whatever power source du jour, from fossil fuels IMMEDIATELY, we have a problem. Ya see...I'm not sure you've noticed yet but, when governments begin to spike the very base of the global economy...we can expect much more expensive EVERYTHING! So that it makes complete sense to you...

"PEOPLE WILL DIIIEEE!!!"

They'll starve to death...they'll die from exposure...they'll turn to crime and get shot...they'll get shot as innocent by-standers in the increased crime wave...then the police and military will have to get involved and more people will die.

Get it? "BASE OF OUR ECONOMY!!!"

Cite where I said "immediately".

Governments influence the economy all the time. See Interest rates being set by a Central Bank.

It's not my fault your extreme libertarian slant is extreme.

I see. OK well, I guess you'll be fine with putting the carbon taxes and all the restrictions removed and the pipelines built. Good. Thanks.

if everyone drove EVs, Air pollution would be much less. EVs don't belch Carbon Monoxide.

You mean everyone in the whole world, right? Obviously since Canada would hardly put a dent in it.

EV’s may not belch CO2, but the puke toxic metals.

....

You want to reduce yer greenhouse gas emission? Never mind cars. Think cow farts, my friends.

https://www.google.com/search?q=cows+methane+global+warming

You beefeaters create a whole lotta bad gas.

Ironically you could use cow farts to power combustion-engine vehicles.

In doing so, convert the methane to less potent CO2 with a lower global warming potential, plus energy.

It’s a good thing.

Are you advocating for a more plant-based diet?

Bio-Waste from livestock can obviously be used to generate electricity.

I did post a link earlier about the CO2 emissions from the shipping industry vs those from ICE cars. Here's another one.

The 16 biggest ships produce more pollution than all the cars in the World | LNG Transfer

I'm wondering why they are focusing almost totally on ICE car owners and doing little or nothing about shipping. Maybe it's the usual thing, go after the low hanging fruit approach.

Fighting alleged man made global warming might be done in a smarter way than just going after cars. If the 16 biggest ships in the world produce more emissions than ALL THE CARS IN THE WORLD, surely it would be smarter to refit a relative handful of ships for a fraction of the cost and go nuclear.

Most people don't think about Shipping, but they think about Gas prices and their own personal transportation.

Also EVs are a reality in personal transport, not yet for shipping.

If Nuclear is good for Aircraft Carriers and Submarines, They should be good for International Shipping. But you'll need way more security. Can't be any Captain Phillips moments with Nuclear Shipping.

Hydrogen could also be an alternative for Shipping.

This is sound thinking. It may or may not work, but at least it's a search for a reasonable replacement instead of playing hari Kari with the economy.

It's obviously tongue and cheek. The meat industry does create a lot of greenhouse gases.

But any attempt by a government to reduce the amount of Red Meat we should consume would also be considered Economy Destroying Socialism.

What's "obvious" is the Libbie desperation to destroy the oil and gas industries BEFORE a reasonable substitute can be implemented. That is STUPID!

It seems Oil and Gas companies are raking in huge profits right now.

But I'm sure the appreciate your concern for them.

Excellent Debate skills.

Ya gits wut ya pays fer.

Your position on this is asinine. It is now apparent that, no matter what we do, the Earth is gonna warm some and there will be floods and such. Don't buy land in Florida.

Until we have discovered a method of powering our society, we use what we have. THAT'S sound thinking.

However it sounds like the "sounds" in your head come from recent Disney messaging. Mickey Mouse is NOT a good model for international energy generation. The little rat can only run so fast.

Those who only use ad hominem attacks to make a point show their relatively limited mental capacity.

No one is claiming that we have the ability to switch to renewables or less harmful Fossil Fuels immediately. But you seem to take the position that until we can completely solve the problem, nothing should be done.

Lots of investment is being made in cleaner and cleaner forms of fuel. What Right-Wingers don't seem to grasp is that governments play a role in this too.

The transition to EVs are happening. Between 2020-2022 the growth of EVs has exploded. And that will only continue because people, like me, hate having to pay for such a volatile thing like gasoline.

Without government help, there wouldn't be a space program. Even absurdly wealthy billionaires can only fun rudimentary space operations.

Those who think things like carbon taxes and the active squelching of the oil and gas industries is OK...exhibit a total lack of mental capacity.

Tell me...will you be OK if and when there's no power to light up an operating table while your kid lies there with his/her stomach wide open? Because that happens every day in some places.

How about when it costs $100.00 for a good steak? Would that be OK? Because that's where we're headed.

The government's role...is to further the prosperity and security of the nation. If, for these reasons, the government decides to invest in research for "clean energy"...I'll be the first to lend support. But if the government decides to stomp on the industry that keeps the lights on and powers our transportation system BEFORE said "clean energy" can be discovered and harnessed...which is what they're doing now...then I must oppose such stupidity.

And what the hell do you think blasts those rockets out of our gravity? Wind turbines?

You really have no evidence to base your doomsday theories.

Other than in far remote areas, please cite areas in Canada that have big problems generating power. I've also noted that Canada's grid is quite clean already.

Most auto-makers are already pledging to move towards an electrified future. So it's not just governments.

Also, you're in denial but it's not Carbon taxes that's causing the prices we're seeing now. It's profit taking by the Oil companies. You don't accept it because you're blinded by hate for any form of governments moving the public in a certain direction.

Why should polluting be free?
