Gas prices.

Recommended Posts

Here in socialist utopia British Columbia our gas prices are almost up to $1.70 a liter. If one converts that into gallons it amounts to approx. $7.00 a gallon. Who would have ever thought that one day here in oil rich Canada that we would be paying $7.00 a gallon for gas. But, here we are.

The reason why I believe that we in BC are paying close to $7.00 a gallon for gas is because of the metric system that was imposed on Canadians when comrade old man Trudeau was the prime dictator of Canada many moons ago.

in the USA, if a gallon of gas goes up, say by five cents, it does not look all that bad. But when it goes up in liters by five cents in BC or Canada that works out to about 22 cents a liter. Quite the jump. And at most times the gas price in BC will jump sometimes by 8 - 10 cents a liter overnight. That would run around 40 cents a gallon over night. Yup, metric was a great idea, or as I would call it, a great ripoff for Canadians.

The metric system has been a disaster for we the people in Canada but a big boom and profit for the oil companies and the big tax governments in Canada. They both make more money the more the gas prices rise. If Canada went back to the good old imperial measurement system tomorrow, Canadians could save a bundle on gas prices if they realized and looked at and compared the prices of gas in America, and that metric was ripping them off big time, metric would be gone tomorrow. I believe that would force the price of gas to go down. We the people would surely rebel, right? Gas prices in America are around $3.00 on average a gallon. In Canada we pay around $7.00 a gallon for gas. Such a deal this metric system was for Canadians, eh? ?

It's not the metric system, it's a mix of inflation brought about by the Liberals' spending, Trudeau's carbon taxes, and the federal government's all out assault on pipelines & the oil sector.

The Liberals want you to stop driving a car, period. RIDE THE BUS, PEON!

The cost of gas won't stop Trudeau from flying his chosen propagandists from CTV and CBC all across Canada to gloss over his election campaign, it won't stop climate activists like DiCaprio & J Kerry from cruising in private jets and yachts, but it will affect our bottom line greatly.

It sucks to be a capitalist bearing the brunt of a socialist government's spending/taxation, but here we are.

The metric system is the way to go with everything.

And it has no bearing on gas prices as you suggest.

But people keep driving trucks they do not need and 4-wheelers they do not need and all kinds of gas powered gizmos they do not need.

Maybe their incomes went up 40% as well?

Agreed.

The only thing that I like the imperial system more for was MPH. When I was a kid and we were x number of miles from something and the speed limit was 60 MPH it was just straight conversion from miles to minutes.

With kmh it's not as easy. 110 kmh doesn't work out well. 120 is a simple divide by 2, but you can't count on going over the limit by 10-30 kmh.

I still use imperial for house and lot sizes too, but that's from habit and not because it works out better in any way. I don't know if I could ever change, it's too automatic for me.

Indeed, there have been other factors that have been responsible for high gas prices in Canada and BC but thanks to the  metric system most people are unaware that they are paying close to $7.00 an imperial gallon. If they did they would probably become a little upset. I cannot stop believing that metric has been one of the reasons why our gas prices are so high. ☺️

I don't remember ever paying for gas by the gallon, but I do remember filling my Honda Civic with less than $20 when I was a young man. Now it's about $120 to fill our Murano and the tank is approximately 1.6x the size. It's painful.

Gas prices stress me out big time and I drive a compact car. I still have to drive to work so I pay more but my emissions are the same and electric cars are not great for anyone doing a long commute(long charging times).

It doesn't help that the oil and gas sector in this country get's very little support either. I do think one of the benefits of the metric system for the Liberals was that people wouldn't realize how much they were being gouged at the pumps. In the early 70s my father had a 40 min commute in an Oldsmobile with a 455, how times have changed.

Taxes, nothing to do with the metric system.  Gas taxes in the GVRD are about 70 cents a litre. Also, there is only one large refinery left in BC. BC refines less than 50% of what it uses the rest comes from Alberta and the US.

I see just about everyone driving some sort of a monster truck, around here and , yes it is a 40 minute commute to the next town, one way.   Many still do that.  My guess is, they just don't think or care, as long as they keep up with the rest of their kind.

We'll have to get used to a whole lot of  higher prices on practically  a whole lot of other things- and higher tax!

Guys are getting paid a lot of money in construction right now.

They're paid based on their ability to get a lot of things done, and if they were to drive a Civic then there would be a lot of things that they couldn't get done.

I end up renting a truck/cube van about 8x per year and I don't even work in construction. I still save a lot of money because of the amount I save on fuel, but I get how tradesmen need trucks.

If gas goes up by one cant a gallon then it is one cent a gallon. If gas goes up by one cent a liter, well in gallons, it is four cents a gallon. When gas prices in BC go up by 5-8 cents a liter, which it does at times, that equates to about 20 - 32 cents a gallon in one shot. That is one huge spike in gas prices. That never happens in America as far as I know.

Indeed, taxes have a lot to do with the price of a liter of gas sold here in BC because we do have extra taxes like carbon and GVRD taxes, but by selling gas in liters even makes it worse. It's $7.00 a gallon to buy gas here in BC. Just saying.

It's those gawd dam welfare recipient Canadian politicians and those environmental wacko groups out there that have made gas prices higher and having less refineries here in Canada. ?

Taxes and gas sold in liters did that to you and the rest of us also. It's $7.00 a gallon or $1.70 a liter here in BC today. Oh joy. ?

Keep voting for liberals or liberal conservatives. They will take care of your every needs but only after they care of their needs first. You see you must try to understand that your NB politicians do not give a rats ass and dam about you and your driving to work every day. We the sheeple are not on their favorites list. We the sheeple have been put on the bottom of the favorites list. Truth hurts but it must be told. Nobody in politics gives a dam about you, army boy. ?

There is probably some gouging going on but it is hard to tell how much because of complications in the system. Oil companies have tailored refinery capacity to demand so when there are glitches the supply system or big changes in demand there are big price swings. Politicians didn't get rid of the refineries, oil companies did. Why spend a bunch more on refineries just to flood the market, make your products cheaper and reduce your profits? The lower mainland used to have  four refineries, now it has one and BC only refines 48% of what it uses, the rest is shipped from Alberta and the US.

The US is also experiencing its highest gas prices in seven years.  While the difference in gas prices is usually quite high, because of US tax structures the price of diesel us usually much closer, sometimes even cheaper in Canada than some US states. Oil is priced in USD so when our dollar drops, we pay more for oil and also gas that is not refined in Canada. GST also compounds things because it is charged on the after tax price of the gas. When it comes to gas and diesel, it is a tax on a tax.

Just drove past the CO-OP and because of the long weekend, gas went from $1.44 to $1.55 overnight. Government didn't do that.

Just the oil companies trying to make a fast buck during the summer holidays or on long weekends.

Okay, so the gas price jumped up by 11 cents a liter at the CO-OP. In gallons that was a jump of approx. 42 cents a gallon at the CO-OP. Now do you see that while showing gas hikes in liters of 11 cents is a lot better than having to show gas hikes in gallons at 42 cents. I believe that in America, If there was a gas price increase of 42 cents a gallon over night in America, and maybe in Canada also, there would probably be a riot. I have never liked metric and how it was forced on we the sheeple.

The metric system that was imposed by force on we the sheeple by communist traitor old man Trudeau on Canadians did cost the Canadian taxpayer's hundreds of billions of their tax dollars being blown down the drain to have to convert to a system of measurement that no Canadians ever asked for. Again, just a minority were able to pull a fast one on the majority once again. If a referendum had been done at the time to see how many Canadians would like to go metric and get rid of the imperial measurement system, the answer would probably be a big fat no. Why change a system that was working okay in Canada?

At the time Canada was running just fine thank you on the good old imperial measurement system. It always takes those leftist liberal communists to always keep trying to phuk up Canada and Canadians by imposing so many new communist unneeded and unwanted programs and agendas on they the sheeple. And they the sheeple just keep taking it up the ass all the time without a whimper.

This is why I always keep saying that the majority of Canadians are just and always will be just plain stupid. Whatever the government tells them to do, they just do it without question. Buffoons indeed. Just my opinion of course. ?

I love doing it every day here just for you all, boy. It seems to pizz off a lot of sheeple here with what I mostly post here all the time. Aw well, shit happens. Ha-ha.

I will be honest with you Army boy, and tell you that you fell to #3 this week on my favorites list. If you want to do better and be #!, then you are going to have to believe everything I say here and agree with me. Just saying. ?

I think most people know the difference between a gallon and a litre. There are only three countries in the world that still use gallons. The US, Liberia and Myanmar.

Most people in their 30's to their 50's do not know even know as to how to convert metric to imperial. I have a friend who does not use imperial anymore. And he is in his early sixties.

There are still some Caribbean Islands that still use gallons. Some still use MPH. I have seen it while visiting one of those many Caribbean islands that I have visited over the years.

I hate watching the weather forecast on TV. When they say that the high today here in BC will be 25, it still sounds chilly to me. I still have to convert that number into imperial to know just how warm or hot it will be that day. I still miss the good old days when the weatherman/woman would say that the high today will be in the 70's or 80's. I still miss my imperial measurement system. I guess that I am probably one of the last imperial dinosaurs left in Canada. Aw well. ☺️

It was interesting to note that after the 2008 credit crises the price of a barrel of oil went from  $133.88 to $39.09 in just a less than a year. (U.S. Energy Information Administration. "Petroleum & Other Liquids-Cushing, OK WTI Spot Price FOB-Dollars Per Barrel)

This merely reflected the dearth of speculative capital at this time.

If Justine and the national leadership of other countries really cared, they would put a heavy tax on speculative capital.

BTW are any of your children able to afford a starter home which will cost $500K?

This is the result of oligopolies and their ownership of all the land surrounding our cities. Does Justine or our political leadership take on these elites? No. They raise taxes, oops borrow money to subsidize housing. The absurdity here is palpable, but it's instructive in that we see a left leaning poseur refuse to take on economic elites.

If you want cheaper housing, oil etc and stop the 1% from treating countries like cash cows, then put a heavy tax on speculative capital.
