Lytton on fire

Recommended Posts

Doesn't appear to be a lot out on it yet, but as I type the the BC town of Lytton is on fire.

Lytton set the Canadian heat record for the last 3 days and there's a forest fire nearby but that isn't what set the Town fire off. It started in the Town itself. Nobody knows the exact cause yet but the news was quoting somebody in the town saying he didn't see how everybody could get out alive.

CBC has a little bit on it:

Village of Lytton, B.C., evacuated as mayor says 'the whole town is on fire'

Global warming.

Wait until this become an everyday occurrence in the developing World....

I wouldn't jump to that conclusion. Bad forestry management over the past several decades plays a factor in these forest fires. Human greed.

Certainly different factors affect whether or not towns burn down, but climate change is a major factor.  Lytton, in case you missed, had the hottest days in Canada, ever, and was the hottest place anywhere in North America on Monday.  Hot places more easily burn down; climate change creates hot places.  Open your eyes, the climate is changing.

It’s important for B.C. To properly maintain their forests.  California made that mistake and paid the price.  California has finally implemented a forest management plan to remedy the problem.

Betcha they'll still get forest fires.  You guys clinging on to "forest fires" to deny climate change is sad, just like the people dying of covid and insisting it must be something else, because covid isn't real.

Properly maintained forests result in less forest fires.  Forest fires won’t be eliminated.  Yes, they’ll still get them, but at a reduced rate.

Let's work harder at reducing climate change, how about that?  Increase carbon taxes, invest heavily in green energy services, stop subsidizing the oil/gas industry, put limits on things like 'fast fashion' and stop growing foods that require tons of water in deserts.

Carbon capture and nuclear fission.

We can do both!  It’s not an either or.  Regardless, reducing climate change will take years, if not decades.  Managing forests is something that can be done right away, and fairly quickly.  I don’t understand your issue with it.

Thanks OftenTrump.

Does Forrest Management make a normally temperate area of the country hotter than Dubai?

It may take less if people whine when governments try to incentivize green behaviour and penalize carbon intensive behaviour.

No issue with forest management, issue with it as a solution to forest fires.  Anyway, Canada already has both  forest management and wildfire management programs.

So, what about the impending doom hellfire coming from Australia?

I don't think you're talking about the cricket, so, what impending doom hellfire?

Not really, since China produces more C02 than all major industrialized countries combined.  And won’t start even trying to cut net emissions until 2030.

That's debatable. Urbanization and the spread of big cities Will DeForest an area. They make more heat and carbon. The heat then blows across the land.

The removal of "useless" Poplars in the guise of forest management creates a very dry bush. We know how bad a dry bush can be. That's dangerisk...

It is actually very low in altitude and gets very hot out there. I don't know if you learned geography along those great science classes you had (on youtube) talking about global warming.

Wasn't Australia supposed to be a hellpit by now?

Where are the doomsayers? Have they all emigrated to this thread?

You can't believe everything you hear.  There are even those who say climate change isn't a problem.

Or you could just look up the fact the average Summer temperature doesn't go past 25 degrees.
