I love coal like an Irishman loves sobriety on St Patrick's day.

I don't know why so many Canadians think they can save the world by making themselves poorer and other countries richer. This problem has to be solved at the consumer end.

You'll have to ask a Canadian about that.

I'm from the land of the Iceni.

With just enough Irish blood to get an EU passport.

Ah, the ''if we don't do it someone else will'' argument.

If I don't sell my dog to the Korean restaurant someone else will sell them one...

That's a dumb comparison. What do you accomplish by not selling coal? Nothing.

Virtue and the moral high ground.

will get you a ride on the shitty centrally planned public transit

if it wasn't for coal, the environment would be worse off than it is today

the trees would thank it, if they could

The right is always good at mislabelling environmentalists as ''the Left''.

Coal is going the way of the steam engine and about time too.

when the "environmentalists" demonize the free market and claim the only acceptable solutions are centrally planned boondoggles

then they are clearly just leftists masquerading as environmentalists for branding purposes and care more about economic control than they do about the environment

they also make real environmentalists look bad by association and sully the brand

Poppycock.

How many wood fired power stations are there in the world?

wood used to be the number one fuel source in the world prior to fossil fuels taking that spot

this lead to heavy deforestation, particularly in Europe

ever since the fossil fuels took over as that fuel source since the industrial revolution, forests in Europe have been rebounding

the first to start using fossil fuels heavily were also the first to dial back the deforestation significantly

this is common historical knowledge that obviously is not well known in "environmentalist" circles that are demonizing fossil fuel usage

many real environmentalists are well aware of these historical facts, but they are not the public faces of the environmental movement, the lefties have that on lock

Timothy had God to heal him. The rest of us need public health care, which costs a shitload of money.

More poppycock.

Agriculture was the main cause of deforestation in Europe.

It was the need to feed the population that led to the change of land use away from forests and towards food production. It wasn't the need for fuel.

Shipbuilding caused more deforestation than burning wood for fuel.

then comes oil and you don't need to cut down as much trees for farmland, because it's far more productive with proper fertilizer

fossil fuel doubly whammy to save the trees

when it comes to shipbuilding, innovations of the industrial revolution led to move away from wood ships to metal ships as well

economic success is not bad for the environment, just the opposite, free market ftw

the cleanest and least polluted cities and countryside reside in the most economically developed nations for a reason

and the dirtiest and most polluted cities and countryside reside in the least economically developed nations for a reason

if one is a real environmentalist they would stop blaming the free market for environmental problems and start leveraging it for environmental solutions

being a Luddite is antithetical to being an environmentalist, this is what the historical record indicates
