Trudeau vows help after Indigenous kids' unmarked graves found, but offers no details

We can only wait and see how this plays out.  At this point neither I nor you know what actually happened.

By doing a little searching through Google or some other search engine, you can find articles about what went on in residential schools and you can get a fairly good idea.  Also read survivors accounts.  Put the pieces together and you will understand it quite well.  There is a lot of misinformation being put out by people who have agendas.  Some of these people do not want to hear the whole story, but only the bad stuff.  Usually the bad stuff overshadows everything else in the public's mind.  But overall, the residential schools were a bad thing because of the bad stuff that happened.  However, during the years of the schools, few people had an understanding about how this would turn out and didn't really understand the whole picture.  It's easy to say this and that in hindsight, but the people that ran them probably thought they were doing the right thing as did the politicians in those years.   The perverts and abusers in the system however didn't care about the consequences of their actions as criminals don't care about the consequences of their actions.  How many of those kind existed in the schools is not really understood.  That's why it would be nice if all documents were released and made public so everyone could understand this issue better.  The problem is confidentiality to protect the innocent will be claimed and is likely why we will never know everything.

The treatment of indigenous children in these so-called schools was horrendous and appalling.

I don't know why so many people find this surprising. The awful treatment of indigenous people has been known for a long time. Our first prime minister was arguably a white supremacist who went on and on about the aryan race, similar to the nazis. He directed the country to engage in countless episodes of violence against indigenous peoples. Yet we celebrate him by putting him on our money and erecting statues. Other people on our money include Laurier, who didn't want women or indigenous people to vote, and Mackenzie King, who turned away Jewish people prior to the holocaust and got his "PhD" on the subject of advocating against immigration from East Asia. Our national anthem was written by a guy that performed in minstrel shows wearing blackface.

Canada is a country founded upon the rejection of enlightenment values. This is why we are not part of the U.S. English Canada was founded by people that wanted to preserve the backwardness of the institution of the monarchy. French Canada was founded by religious fundamentalists who rejected joining the U.S. because values like freedom of speech or separation of religion and state would go against their desire for Quebec to be a Catholic semi-theocracy (which it was until the quiet revolution of the 1960s). British North America continued to have slavery decades after it was abolished in the Northern U.S.

Our anthem and our charter emphasize that this country recognizes the supremacy of "god", which is precisely the justification used to oppress the indigenous people in these schools along with their parents. From the perspective of some (but not all) of the advocates of these religious school systems, they were serving "god" and "saving" these indigenous children from their "savagery" by brainwashing them into their religion (if they didn't die in these schools). Religion and "god" has been used and continues to be used to justify terrible aristocracies around the world.

You’re so wrong.  Canada was absolutely founded on enlightenment values, many of them derived from Britain which banned slavery in the Empire in 1832, long before it was banned in the U.S.   Read about the Underground Railroad.  MacDonald was not a white supremacist.  He was a Scott who was representing the overwhelming majority of his population who were of European ancestry.  Many Indigenous would very much have appeared “uncivilized” in relation to mainstream society.  Your comments are irresponsible and untrue.  Learn about Joseph Brant and Tecumseh.  Read about the countless progressive changes to laws and policies that unfolded in the British parliament and later the Canadian parliament.

You really don’t know how Indigenous were treated or why publicly funded education was considered progressive and still is today.  Provide evidence for “horrendous and appalling” system-wide treatment in residential schools. This is why people are clinging to extreme sides.  No reasonable discussion based on facts.

People who are shocked, appalled and outraged by this are totally ignorant of Canada's history. That is the real threat in democracy, to have bunch of dumbfounded dipsticks voting all the time...

I know.  They’re the biggest threat to liberal democracy today.  Until politicians stop fearing cancel culture and start actually challenging it, these threats will continue until there are no great countries like Canada anymore.  At that point it will be easy for totalitarian states like China to seize control.  The leftists won’t know what hit them.

this was a deliberate plan, this is the project of the Liberal Party of Canada Laurentian Elites

erase the central narrative of Canada dating back the Glorious Revolution of 1688 in defence of the Enlightenment

replace that with a Post National State with its own flag, anthem & dogma

a people without a history are easy to control

Canadians tear down their own monuments in the name of a pseudo Nazi cult

the temple has fallen, the barbarians are through the gates, scorched earth in their path, I say

all the institutions of Canada have already fallen, this is Vichy Canada now, occupied territory

the Prime Minister is a Quisling and all his ministers cronies to the forces of darkness against reason

Ignorant leaders of mobs are making major decisions in Canada now.  The lesson learned is that threats, roadblocks, and destruction of property get you what you want, without discussion, debate, or research.  If this pattern continues, those with the means will gate themselves off from the mob because of the fear and refusal of police, courts, and government to safeguard rule of law and honest communication, or they will leave the country and bring their money and talent with them. Radical rule is backstopped by the constant threat of public shaming, job loss, and cancellation by an unprofessional media ruled by naive leftist zealots.

It appears even Trudeau is shocked and appalled; you'd think he has more knowledge of his heritage than me, the guy who came from somewhere else 20 years ago.

From what I see, here in this forum, there are quite a few who for nationalistic reasons, or because of shame, refuse to accept the possibility of wrongdoings in the past.

They would look for the best possible excuses, oh, Kamloops was a god forsaken place of a hundred people marking graves with wooden crosses.  How do you get 200 dead children in a village with a total population of 100?  What percentage of all kids who went to school died? Over what period of time?  They would try to tell you it was probably a couple of kids a year who died.....OK, then it happened over a period of 100 years (200 kids), but hey, the Spanish flu did not last 100 years.......

Oh boy, oh boy .....

Mr. Trudeau is always looking for a reason to be shocked and appalled. My issue with him is his abdication of responsibility. Blame catholics.

Ok fine. But the truth is, blame the government as well. It wasnt catholics who made the system, it wasnt catholics who rounded up the kids and took them away.

Trudeau is a coward. He knows it means he must do something as PM. More work for him.

Someone should tell him: “Hey Justin, it’s 2021.”

Yeah, bullshit. Nobody but NOBODY is refusing to accept there were wrongdoings and lots of them in the past. What we're not doing is wallowing in them. What we're not doing is allowing them to overshadow everything else. What we're not doing is taking those bad things out of the context and times in which they happened.

So it's wrong to ask about facts and put things in context when all you want is to wallow in how guilty and shameful a place Canada is, right? Might I suggest you just go back to wherever you came from? Maybe their ancestors were much nicer than the ones here and you won't have to cry so much.

One thing that we're also not doing is trying to pretend that the 215 kids at that school were murdered, just so that we can join in the PM's virtue-signalling campaign, when we know that they died of the same diseases that white folk in the cities were dying from.

It's because we're not liars and dipshits.

Heard that before.  It means you are out of sound arguments and blowing steam.

No doubt in my mind some / most of those kids were murdered.  Nobody is wallowing in the past.  The point was raised in the media, we are commenting on it with whatever views, guesses, knowledge or lack of knowledge we have.

To WestCanMan, we here in NW BC have the "highway of tears".  Find out who died, how and why.  You might find the same reasons as those behind the residential schools.

“Murdered”?   Please explain why you assume this and cite evidence to support your assumptions.

You're blowing smoke . . . . yet again.

Prove  . . .  "some / most of those kids were murdered."

Why don't you tell me about all things Indian . . . .

Because all missing women along the highway of tears were murdered.  They did not die of the Spanish flu, Covid 19 or any other illness.

Not providing the necessities of life would be murder as proven by the courts.

How do you know this?  Do you know about murders along Highway 16, and have you told the RCMP that you know the missing people were murdered?  Has it ever occurred to you that Janet, Evelyn, Martha, Edward, or James just might be in Vancouver, Seattle, Toronto, or Edmonton starting a new life after leaving the shit-hole reserve?  That it was intended to leave no 'trail' behind?

You've stated that the Kamloops school deaths were murder and genocide.  Prove it or stfu.

Yeah, they all left for the lower Mainland like those women who disappeared in the lower mainland and turned out to be murdered on the Pickton's farm.

YOU PROVE to me they were NOT murdered or STFU !!

Exactly.  Trudeau was over at the G7 meeting and where he could hide behind the other leaders when talking mildly about China.  But when he is in Canada, he says very little or nothing about China.  China's influence and control is creeping and increasing in Canada.  If we look around, we can spot it.  Many of us are still wondering what exactly the government was doing sending deadly viruses from the Winnipeg lab to the Wuhan virology lab.  And what two scientists from China were doing working there and why they were quietly removed by the RCMP.  Now the minister of health, Hajdu, says they can't release documents on the issue because of national security.  What are they hiding?

"70 per cent of murdered aboriginal women killed by indigenous men: RCMP - The Globe and Mail"

When will you do a little searching and reading before making nonsensical comments?

This is an article admitting the women were murdered.

Who murdered them is largely speculation since most bodies were never found hence "murdered and missing".

But you guys who like the facts and research, please find an article where 200 white kids were buried in the school yard of some school, or at least an article showing white kids dying in the same proportion as those indigenous kids.

Let's have some honesty.

Assuming mass murder is reckless and unsubstantiated.  You’re easily manipulated by an extreme agenda.

Its been said that the GPR image from the Kamloops school shows only that the strata has been disturbed at some time. Apparently it does not show bodies, again, not 215 bodies. It has also been said that the Kamloops Band has refused any outside assistance to recover and count said bodies.  Many question marks  . . .
