Food Manufacturers Changing Recipes On The Sly

About 2 years ago I grabbed a box of Alphabits in the grocery store, and when I got home I was shocked out how they had changed.  The texture and the way they changed when sitting in milk had changed completely.  It was like a completely different cereal or the crappy house brand version.  Then there was the sugar.  Much less sweetness from what we used to call, "sugar cereals".

I actually emailed the company as there was an address on the box.  I'm afraid I was quite curt.  I informed them that if I wanted to eat healthy options, then I would buy such, but changing the recipe like this had made me a non customer.  I've been aware of activists pressuring food companies regarding junk food, sugary drinks, etc, so I thought I should do the same.

I've now noticed that they are going after pop.  Coke and others now have less sugar content, and I'm sure other foods and fast food companies are being pressured.   My question, has anyone else noticed this with your favourite brands out there?  Any thoughts on this?  Do you enjoy the occasional fatty or sweet treat?

I'm guessing, Bubber, that you've not come across one single food product in the grocery store that suddenly started tasting different due to the nutrition police?  Perhaps you smoke...

So no one drinks pop around here?  Several brands have been messing with the recipes.  I can think of a few different food products that have been changed.

How did you interpret that from what I said? I said people don't eat shit so much anymore, so selling shit is less profitable and you shit eaters are therefore finding it harder to find shit to eat. You can call the law of supply and demand "the police", but that just says more about your propensity to seek conspiracy as the explanation to all your woes.

They only have so much shelf space and consumers are choosing healthier options. Capitalism dictates they must adapt or perish.

You meant to say capitalism means they can now use less sugar, cut the size of the box and jack the price up a dollar or so and the fools will still buy it.

Like those half size cans of Coke that always cost more than full size ones. The full size 355ml cans that often are more than 2L bottles. For woke folks that putting the lid on and put it back in the fridge for later is just too fucking hard to think of.

I think the operative word there is "fools"...

I think the food manufacturer only changed the recipe because the demand for the product dropped. All major brands, instead of changing the recipe, it is better to release an analogue of the product with changes like Coca-Cola with and without sugar. More often than not, I noticed that my favorite foods were just disappearing rather than changing. It's sad, of course, but I can't change anything.
