Queenmandy85 Posted December 11, 2020 Report Posted December 11, 2020 Good morning everyone. I just wanted to be the first to wish you all (Canadians, that is) a Happy Independence Day. Quote Socialism is the opiate of the intellectual class.
Queenmandy85 Posted December 12, 2020 Author Report Posted December 12, 2020 It says something about this country that of all the former colonies, we are probably the only one that doesn't celebrate our Idependence Day. 1 Quote Socialism is the opiate of the intellectual class.

Because we don't have one. it happened very, very gradually. over 120 years. Quote "All generalizations are false, including this one." - Mark Twain Partisanship is a disease of the intellect.
Cannucklehead Posted December 12, 2020 Report Posted December 12, 2020 Canada day just sounds so much better and unique. 1 Quote
cannuck Posted December 19, 2020 Report Posted December 19, 2020 We were totally dependent upon England, and now we are totally dependent upon the USA. What's to celebrate? Quote
Argus Posted December 19, 2020 Report Posted December 19, 2020 (edited) Canadians are not taught history, except about how horrible we were to natives, so I doubt one in a hundred knows anything about the Statute of Westminster. Was kicked out of Social Studies in high school . . . the teacher was obsessed with everything Egypt. Asked him why we weren't learning anything about Canada, considering most of us would live, work, and pay taxes, and die here. Made the mistake of also mentioning that if I wanted to know anything about Egypt, I'd buy a postcard. Kicked out, but made me a student of Canadian history, especially western Canada. Agree . . . . Dominion Day ! 1 Quote
Argus Posted December 20, 2020 Report Posted December 20, 2020 Much of Canada's history is inextricably bound up with Great Britain. That is why, I believe, the Liberals (and liberals) set out to diminish it, to teach as little about it as possible. The Liberals (and liberals) didn't want a reminder of our position as a colony and then a sort of junior partner to the British. What history was taught focused on the natives, and on the exploration period - Champlain, Jacques Cartier, etc. Almost everything after the French surrendered disappeared from the history books in schools sometimes in the late sixties or early seventies. And so we get another Trudeau telling us Canada has no core identity (except for Quebec, of course). If so it's because he and his father and the Liberals (and liberals) have done their best to rob us of one. 2 Quote "A liberal is someone who claims to be open to all points of view — and then is surprised and offended to find there are other points of view.” William F Buckley
