Was kicked out of Social Studies in high school . . . the teacher was obsessed with everything Egypt. Asked him why we weren't learning anything about Canada, considering most of us would live, work, and pay taxes, and die here. Made the mistake of also mentioning that if I wanted to know anything about Egypt, I'd buy a postcard. Kicked out, but made me a student of Canadian history, especially western Canada. Agree . . . . That is why, I believe, the Liberals (and liberals) set out to diminish it, to teach as little about it as possible. The Liberals (and liberals) didn't want a reminder of our position as a colony and then a sort of junior partner to the British. What history was taught focused on the natives, and on the exploration period - Champlain, Jacques Cartier, etc. Almost everything after the French surrendered disappeared from the history books in schools sometimes in the late sixties or early seventies. And so we get another Trudeau telling us Canada has no core identity (except for Quebec, of course).
