Well this is about Trump, right?

The problem with the US political system is that only a handful of states decide the entire POTUS contest.

Yes, which I specifically stated earlier.  That if he would've shown a bit more concern over covid, he would've won easily.  That should concern Democrats.  But hey, I don't really care if they don't care.  it's going to be a blood bath in 2022.

The election would have been framed much differently.

One point to consider is that Trump's popularity didn't change much over the course of his term. So perhaps COVID-19 didn't actually effect his fortunes that much.

You really can't blame him for the economic downturn. It would have happened regardless of who was in power.

Which should really terrify Democrats that an unpopular president had more coattails than Biden did, an a record turnout election.

So it should terrify Democrats that the GOP have pretty much zero chance to win the popular vote ever again?

And, from now on, they only need to focus on 5 or so states to win any POTUS election going forward.

It was a record turnout because Trump was so unpopular.

There are many former Red States that are becoming more purple as time goes on. This election it's Arizona and Georgia. In 2024 it could easily be North Carolina and Texas.

So what ?   I don't know of any U.S. president that would have been re-elected under the current circumstances....except for maybe Washington, Lincoln, and Roosevelt.

Why? Because of the disease? Trudeau and Doug Ford have retained their popularity. Despite, in my opinion, screwing up. Quebec's premier has too, despite screwing up even more. Australia's Prime Minister is at 66% popularity, despite having to take some pretty harsh measures and a long lockdown. The German government is holding in there well.

It isn't the virus which hurt Trump. It was his blithe unconcern for it and for those being hurt and killed by it. He not only has no empathy for others he doesn't even seem to have the ability to fake it. Combined with his determination to play down the virus and treat it like a PR problem (which made things much worse) he took a lot of damage. Though less than he should have due to the highly partisan nature of US media.

I actually don't want him to go away.

Once he becomes a private citizen, his attempts to retain his financial solvency and freedom will be extraordinarily entertaining.

At this point, I can emphasize with his father, Fred Trump. "I hope that moron and his family (Marla & co) die in a plane crash."

source: Mary Trumps book, after bailing out his son Donald, and his latest business failure.

Come to think of it, if most of the GOP was killed, the World would be a much better place.  I now know why they named streets after the men responsible for the assassination attempt on Hitler.

Arizona voted Biden largely because of Trump’s attacks on McCain.  Regardless, West Virginia used to be Democrat, it’s not Republican.  That trend is taking place in mid western states like Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Minnesota.  They used to be solidly blue, now there razor thin margins.  But popular vote isn’t how elections are won and lost.  As long as Republicans can be within a couple of points, they can win the EC.  Also, California and New York are bleeding residents.  People are moving away.  So much so that New York us going to lose a congressional seat.  California may as well.  Texas and Florida will gain seats.

So how do you reconcile both Arizona Senators also being Democrat?

States swing back and forth. Obama won North Carolina and Iowa, but didn't win Georgia.

It's interesting that you note the outlier of the 2016 election as the "trend" when discussing midwestern states. Those are close states, that's why they're the only ones that really matter.

As for Florida and Texas, let's see what happens when the fear-mongering on socialism with Biden turn out to be just that.

Yeah but the people moving from those blue states to those red states aren’t converting to Republicanism, they’re turning those solid red states purple.  Dems are making inroads and gaining ground in Texas and Georgia   Florida has always been a swing state although it’s been more red than usual in the last few cycles

Gee, guess what Mitch McConnell has to say.

“If this election were overturned by mere allegations from the losing side, our democracy would enter a death spiral. We’d never see the whole nation accept the election again,” McConnell said.

“I believe protecting our constitutional order requires respecting the limits of our own power. It would be unfair and wrong to disenfranchise American voters and overrule the courts and states on this extraordinary thin basis. … I will vote to respect the people’s decision and defend our system of government as we know it,” McConnell added.

“I supported the president’s right to use the legal system, dozens of lawsuits. …. But over and over the courts rejected these claims, including all-star judges whom the president himself has nominated," McConnell said.

McConnell added that allegations of fraud during the 2020 election weren’t “anywhere near the massive scale” needed to change the outcome of the election.

Tear Gas deployed inside the capital building!  Building has been stormed  for the first time since the British burned it down in the war of 1812.

Everything has unfolded exactly as was foreseen 4 years ago  And also 70 years ago... Brown shirts are selling out fast it seems

The upsetting part about what happened yesterday is that it's the logical conclusion of "Trump's Act".

If you really believe that Trump won the election by a "Landslide". An armed insurrection would be the only thing you could do to prevent such a thing from happening. That's why he's culpable for the violence that took place.

Even the Senators who objected yesterday didn't believe that Trump won by a landslide. Josh Hawley could only limply suggest that expanding Election laws in Pennsylvania "could" lead to fraud. No actual suggestion that fraud took place.

Senator after Senator came up to say that the courts have ligated these things to death. Only 6 Senators ended up objecting to the Certification.

Who is to say the Justin Trudeau isn't also part of the swamp? He's Mr Reset as far as I'm concerned. Another agent in league with the Communists. Fuck Justin Trudeau...with a big rusty pipe.
