Border crossings for some but not for others.

Recommended Posts

So, why are truckers, and other people that are considered essential, and now people who have families in America or Canada are allowed to go back and forth across the Canadian/American border with no problems while people like myself are still not allowed to cross the border. There are thousands of truckers going back and forth across the border every day, along with so called essential people, and now there are people with families living on both sides of the border whom are now being allowed to cross each others borders to visit family without any concern of spreading the China virus by both governments.

Is this fair? Is this right? Are truckers, and essential people, and now people with families somehow deemed safe enough to be able to go back and forth across the border without bringing the China virus back and forth with them from each other's countries every day? This just does not make much sense to me anymore this ban on not being able to go to the states for a day or a weeks visit. I see tens of thousands of Canadians driving every day around the city, going here and going there, and possibly spreading the China virus everywhere around, with no concern about spreading the virus by our governments, but yet it is all okay for others to do so.

Am I supposed to be some kind of a threat of spreading the virus and thus that is why I am not allowed to cross the American border for a days or for a weeks visit. And what I am getting from Bonny Boo, BC's health guru these days? She pretty much has said that she would like to keep it that way. She probably hates America anyway like most leftist liberal socialist and communists do so she could careless about little old me. She probably has not gone to America for decades now nor has any plans soon to do so. But I will bet that it will be okay for her to go to America if she wants to. Just not poor me!!

Am I going to be kept a prisoner in my own country for a very long time now? There are hundreds of thousands of Canadians that use to be able to go back and forth across the border into America pretty much every day who have now been denied that access to America anymore. What the hell? It looks like for myself and hundreds of thousands of other Canadians who are not truckers, essential workers, and who do not have family members in America, well I guess that we are all just plain shit out of luck? I have always enjoyed my driving trips to Oregon, Las Vegas and Arizona, and now I cannot do that anymore.    What say you? Are you happy or sad that the border has been shut down to some people and not others? Just wondering. ;)

Not sure why you'd want to visit the US right now.

You can catch a flight to the US if you want. No ones stopping you, but when you return you'll be asked to Quarantine for 2 weeks.

Truckers are essential because they keep trade going. You know, that economy people like to talk about.

The land border will be closed to non-essential travel until the US can get the virus under control. Seems a deal is being worked out to get Hockey and Baseball players to be able to cross the border though.

Americans won't be allowed to go to Europe, Canadians will though. :P

Canadians cross the border by a 2:1 ratio compared to Americans, and the U.S. has 10X the population.

Keep the border closed for another year !

Not all trade is essential....stop those trucks too.

Hockey and baseball are the most non-essential of all.

I don't think many Canadians would argue seeing the numbers.

Not even Trump wants that. You're a broken record on this.

Yeah but we really want to watch it.

Since when do you care what Trump wants ?

A one year closure will expose all the America haters in Canada that still depend on crossing the border.    They can start walking their talk.

Shut down air travel too !

Speak for yourself....it's only about the money.    Plenty of old sports media to watch...America gave Canada YouTube, remember ?

I think your hatred for Canada is more evident. We don't hate the US, we just hate Trump.

You would actively damage the US economy if it meant the Canada-US border would be closed. Is there any international trade you support?

Who wants to watch old sports? It is all about the money. The NBA will play in Central Florida, the epicentre of the COVID outbreak. I bet they regret that decision.

My hatred for smug anti-Americans in Canada is a lot more than evident.

And it precedes Trump by many years.

...so walk the talk, or be called on it.

Trump improved the U.S. economy, but you still hate him.    See how easy it is to un-wrap such pretzel logic ?

I have many NCAA, NFL, MLB, and NBA games and playoffs and championships on DVD going back to the 1960's for just this kind of circumstance.

NHL ?    Who cares !

Well my anti-American sentiment only precedes Trump. I'll even admit to supporting the Iraq war initially.

Obama improved the economy too.

Trump will try to seek re-election with double digit unemployment.

It's not about you or me....many Canadians have long expressed such hatred for the U.S., so much so it is considered a national sport...long before Trump.

So give them something to really bitch about, while they continue to want to cross the border and consume American culture/media.

Obama got double digit unemployment after his election.

Sorry, but American media can not always meet your needs in Canada.

Try Korean baseball.....

Cite that the demand to cross the border is great? It's a mutual decision. To Mexico too, no need for a wall.

And if he has to own that, Trump has to own these numbers.

I'll get to watch the Raptors defend their title from the safety of Canada and not the Covid-infested Orlando.

More Canadians traveled to the U.S., even with a much smaller population.    Must be the weather !

Why Canadians talk about boycotting the U.S. but are actually travelling there more

Props to Admin for moving this thread drift here.

Had nothing to do with Trump and I apologize for contributing to it.

Indeed...strong is the anti-Trump force in some.

Still, he does have an impact on border crossing policy, even before COVID.

The border has become.....thicker.

Are you afraid of closing the border ?     How does this make you feel ?

The border is closed to non-essential travel. And will remain as such until August.

Unless you get elected POTUS, there's no indication that trade will be suspended.

Bolton's book indicates that Trump doesn't like JT. He's certainly respectful towards him. Perhaps Trump is more pragmatic than you are.

Sort of....air travel is still permitted, and there are several exceptions for land travel too.

Trade will be impacted by economic circumstances regardless, which is an opportunity to grow jobs domestically.

Canada will have to learn how to survive with less exports and foreign investment.

Lots of people don't like Justin Trudeau...even in Canada.

I am amazed that Bolton, long hated in Canada before Trump, is now the wise statesman to you.

Why? Trade is still allowed. With COVID-19 uncertainty, the Canadian Economy is more stable.

TBH, a lot of US economic activity is derived from Canadians coming down south. That economic activity will stay home now, to the detriment to the US.

When did I say that? He just said Trump hates JT.

Trump always says he likes JT, even when the Blackface thing happened.

We have already been over this...Canada's economy is far more dependent on exports to the U.S. and American investment....even more than China.

Trade is down across most sectors, and more in specific sectors like tourism.    Canadians spend less than Americans....cheap !

Keeping the border closed will force new patterns to develop with no guarantee they will ever go back to previous patterns/levels.

Off topic....except that the blackface PM will get more pressure to keep the border closed.

Cite industries other than Tourism, Hospitality.

Seriously ?      You think Canada is so special it can avoid the impacts of COVID in other business sectors ?

Hell, Canada's economy was in trouble even before the pandemic because of oil prices and rail protests....open border or not.
