Will it be the virus that takes Trump down?

Recommended Posts

The secret of Trumpism is that he's not married to any ideology, he stole the Democrats old platform, since they switched to being Progressives

So Trump can play it anyway he wants on whatever day he wants, depending on who he's talking to and what the situation is

One minute he can be playing it libertarian, running against the Big Gov.

The next day he can be nanny Trump, Big Gov interventionist

It doesn't really matter, because really people vote for Trump not because of Trump,  but out of fear and loathing of the Progressives

Wishful thinking....Trump did not cause COVID-19.

Did the SARS fiasco in Canada take down Chretien or Martin ?    Nope.

There is a herpes virus lurking out there with Justin's name on it and  Donald Trump's name on it...its just a matter of time.

Back in 2016 a lot of people wondered how Trump would deal with any kind of world crisis. I guess this is how they find out.

There's so much Trump deranged hysteria in the media, wouldn't matter what he does or doesn't do, British lefties will declare it to be catastrophic no doubt

This however works in Trump's favor : He Can't Keep Getting Away With It simply incites his base to rally around him all the more.

I would suspect that there's absolutely nothing the media nor British lefties can say that will damage Trump at this point, they have no influence on the right

Oh sure, his base won't judge him.

It will be left to history to do that.

History is not a harsh judge, not only is George W. Bush more popular than ever, Joseph Stalin is making a comeback too.

Indeed...the Bush haters were claiming HE was the worst president EVER.

Doesn't take much to trigger them...over and over again.

....now it is Trump and the virus.

Trump's lowest approval rating is 35%

Trump's highest disapproval rating is 60%

Harry Truman's lowest approval rating was 22%

Bush is the worst since at least FDR.

Same trajectory as Truman

Truman peaks with one of the highest approval ratings 87%  and the Korean War drives him down to lowest of all time 22%

Bush peaks with the highest of all time 90% and the Iraq War drives him down to 25%

Trump is obviously seriously afraid that the economy will tank over this though... and his base will stay home if he does. nobodys going to support a guy who is tanking the economy. unless....

he takes the bull by the horns now and stops this "its not happening" man/baby stuff. declares a full state of a emergency, an existential crisis that threatens not only the US but mankind as a species. that it will be necessary to suspend civil liberties in this fight for existence. really play it up. have the CIA import the virus to democratic strong holds. cease the airways and all public communications. and thank god he is the one in charge as he is the only true leader who can lead America through this ordeal.

Any U.S. president would be...Trump is just another U.S. president.

Trump's base is stronger than any other candidate's, even if only to spite the Democrats.

No....Trump must remain true to himself and what has gotten him so far in U.S. politics.   Trump strongly believes in direct access to Americans via Twitter, bypassing the usual media middlemen/women.    Trump has 75 million Twitter followers.

Trump will win or lose...doing it his way.

Indeed, the Deplorable narrative is already that it is a Globalist Plot to spread panic by way of the media in order to bring Trump down

The Investor class knows that electing the Democrats won't make things go back up, so it's a wash.

This topic is complete lunacy.  Protocols for outbreaks such as this are in place and are independent of any administration and have been for decades.  But it’s really ironic that Trump is now being criticized for being the level headed, non-crisis and fear mongering adult, when normally his critics accuse him of the exact opposite.  Whether it relates to illegal immigration, terrorism, etc.  He’s not responsible for the virus and hasn’t done anything different than Trudeau.  Yet our forum critics are quick to blame Trump, while Justin gets barely a mention, if at all.  Classic Trump Derangement Syndrome!

Whatever else Bush was you can bet he's relieved he'll no longer be the stupidest president ever.

He never was, but most of his critics were pretty dumb.  They also threw up on themselves comparing him to Hitler etc like they do with Trump.

I wonder what kind of crisis will be triggered when some hapless staffer breaks the suggestion to Trump that rallies might not be a good idea for awhile.

I love President Bush's comment after the 2016 election. " I guess I',m not looking so bad now."

Trump is seen as a protector of Americans, first and foremost. He won't underreact to the virus, and Americans won't think any less of him because of anything that happens with Covid.

Contrast that with a guy like Trudeau who would leave the border open to terrorists just for a photo op.

The advantage of the incumbent is that he can make things happen

They shouldn't stimulate this market, because it's overstimulated, but they will anyways

Coronavirus is the perfect excuse to fly around in a helicopter dropping cash in the Red districts, Trump to the rescue

Not a bad place to be in an election year

except when he's scared shitless and its plainly obvious. nobody likes a man/baby. if he wants to ride this then he needs to portray strength and taking the bull by the horns. he doesn't even get that its not the flu.

While market sinks, Trump tweets on Obama, 'fake news' and the Dem primary

wonder if this has anything to do with his own germaphobe thing?

"he accused the "Fake News Media" of working to "inflame" the crisis "far beyond what the facts would warrant," even as his HHS Secretary on Fox News this morning said “nobody is trying to minimize” the seriousness of the coronavirus."

"Trump proclaimed that "nothing is shut down, life & the economy go on."

yeah, except for the quants at JP Morgan Chase, Golman Sacks etc... those guys respond too "fake news" to much?

Health officials shift tone on coronavirus, say elderly and sick at risk

"representing the Trump administration, making it clear that the outbreak is past the point where it can be prevented from spreading or easily tracked."
