All the woke news that's fit to air or print

I was thinking the other day, as I watched the first 'news' item on my local TV news, about advocacy journalism. The first, most important item of the day was a long piece about a group which gives presents to refugee kids and makes them aware of Santa Claus and how delighted these kids are to be here. This was followed by a piece on the food bank about how grateful people are to get free food. Meanwhile in the Globe, there's a long, long piece of advocacy journalism on the 'plight' of Muslim women in Quebec, where they're no longer allowed to wear their religious outfits if they want to work for the government. And the local paper has responded (apparently) to the growing number of people who like to write 'diversity is our strength' after crime pieces which are mainly about newcomers by removing the names of those accused from the stories. Mustn't let people get the wrong idea, after all, even if it's, well, factual.

There is a lot of hand-wringing. mostly by the Left, about why alternative sources of news have drawn more and more people away from the 'mainstream press'. And I would suggest the reason is advocacy journalism. This is something the media has indulged in for some time, but it's gotten worse and worse as the ideological beliefs of the media have moved further left. Once it's known you have an agenda, and start pushing themes to change people's minds, people begin to lose trust in everything you say, and wonder what you're NOT saying. This is not an idea which has evidently occurred to the Left, whose response is invariably to try to either ban those alternative sources, or pay government money to the existing ones so they can outspend the alternatives, or at at least control what the alternative sources of news say.

William Watson: CBC's The National brings Canadians all the news that's woke

The New York Times claims it provides “all the news that’s fit to print.” The National produces “all the news that fits in the very narrow ideological spectrum of downtown-urban wokeness.” There are four essential components to The National these days: something climate, something anti-Trump, something Lefty-heroic, and something Indigenous.

The funny thing is, the more I talk to those loons the more I find out they're against corporations   Isn't that just rich ?

I can't wait until they become woke to how badly the effects of climate change have been underestimated. There'll be an even Holier kind of Hell to pay then.

Their kids will be talking about how dad never believed in it, but he didn't live to see how bad it is now.

That would be like an anti-globalist position or something.  Being against centralization and internationalization of commerce.

Yes, it's true.  I think 'Corporation' is morphed to mean multi-national and as you point out, it's not so.  I'm a corporation and the loons aren't against me.  Well, they are but only but not because I'm a corporation :D

You won't be around to see what the world will be like in 60-70 years from now. Maybe things will turn out to be much better and great for our grand and great grandchildren in the future then what we ever thought or expected. So, quit with that bs nonsense as to what the kids may say or think about what their dads said or done or should have done decades in the past. Do you ever go back and try to blame your dad for the mess that the world is in today which he left behind for you? I don't think so, fella. You are probably to busy knocking nationalist patriotic politically incorrect conservatives and Trump down anyway to find the time to do that, right? Gawd, are all Canadians the same? Is it possible for them to be able to think before they speak?

Is it also possible for Canadians to ever finally find the time to get the other side of the story for a change? All I ever see are CBC, CNN and anti-Trump crybaby closed minded snowflakes here. Deplorable.

FOX News is #1 for real and true no fake conservative news. :D

I can see that little brat Greta Thornbug has gotten too you with her climate change bull chit nonsense alright? Even President Trump does not believe her made up bull chit stories about climate change. Trump totally ignored her at some stupid UN climate summit in Europe somewhere. Greta looked a little upset when Trump walked into some room and totally ignored her presence, and rightly so. She may be the darling of the MSM fake media but to Trump he probably thought that she should be in school instead and trying to get an education. :D

You're flogging a dead horse mate.

Anyone who describes climate change as bull chit nonsense and then goes on to use what Trump claims to believe as proof of their point doesn't really have a reality based grasp of the issue.

You must be referring to those lefty liberal climate change SJW brats who keep doing just that. Only those woke fools would keep flogging a dead horse. Lol.

Well, let me repeat myself once again just for you. I think that all of this nonsense about climate change is just that - woke climate change nonsense. :D Trump does not believe in climate change one bit because he does know that all this woke climate change nonsense is all just that - woke climate change nonsense. Of course there has always been climate changes going on here on earth since time began but what is happening today is not something anybody should get their undies all wet over. You would probably not have to change your undies so often every day if you would just chill out about this woke climate change nonsense. But you are welcome to continue to keep "flogging that dead horse mate" if you still want too. Greta, the young brat, Thornbug  will love you for all your love and devotion to her useless and uneventful woke cause. Me, I am now going for a live horsey ride. Talk soon. Lol.

It certainly looks to me like that woke climate change nonsense has hit you on the upside of your head. Okay, oh unwise one, just what is happening on earth in regards to climate change that we should all be so worried and concerned about? What can you tell me to try and convince me that there is some real climatic change event going on here on planet earth that I should get myself all in a panic over?    Over to you expert climate change scientist. ;)

As if you would respect the opinions of the many experts and scientists that disagree with your climate change scientists?  So, just where is their any proof that we are having a climate change fiasco going on here on planet earth? Give me some examples, and stop running from my questions all the time like you do. I do not need an answer from you with another question. So, go ahead. Make your day. ;)

Where or what is my problem? Please explain? I am not the one that is all in a panic over nothing, but you sure do appear to be all in a panic over nothing, unless you can give me something to really panic over, which so far you have not offered up to me as yet. So again, where is the panic over climate change that you seem to be oh so afraid of happening? Please reply with an answer, and not with another useless reply. Give me something, will you, that I should start to panic over. Hello?  ;)

Why?

Would you even read the links if I provided them?

What is the point of debating science with someone who doesn't believe that a concensus of experts on the subject means anything?

Does that answer your question?

Don't see it as a debate or even a discussion.  Merely it's a thread that reflects thoughts on Climate Change.  As such, make sure that you have your facts posted and the denier response (typically either a conspiracy theory, falsehood, or no response at all) is on the record.

There are no legitimate scientists proposing a viable alternative to the prevailing theory on Climate Change.  The question of response is separate but the science on this is solid.

It's an argument I've had multiple times in multiple threads on multiple forums.

Whenever evidence is posted it is usually ignored and the denier moves on to the next talking point without even trying to counter the evidence provided.

Why has Iceland had unprecidented snowfall? What about Milankovitch cycles? Tomatoes used to grow at the North pole...all that kind of stuff. Then when you explain that higher atmospheric temperatures lead to increased precipitation or sunspot activity cannot explain current trends etc they just move on to the next one.

I'm more interested in talking about possible ways of mitigating the consequences nowadays or countering the outright fake news like the fabrication going around at the moment about how the Australian bushfires are all started by arsonists so that proves climate change has no link to the severity of the fires.

Links to evidence just get ignored or dismissed as ''climate change propaganda'' from scientists chasing government grants.

Would you read the links that I would provide you? Probably not, right? You appear to have been brainwashed by people like socialist AOC and Suzuki into believing that the the world will come to an end in twelve years.

Indeed. What is the point of trying to debate with someone like you who does not want to listen too and read the other side of the so called climate change story? To know just one side of the story is to know nothing at all. That sure looks like you to me. And I doubt it very much that you are ever going to stop using anything that uses fossil fuels in your lifetime. If you did then you would have no life anymore. If you own a car, then go sell it right now, and try to help save the earth from ending in twelve years. I doubt that you would do that, right?

Most of these so called experts are being paid off by the likes of Suzuki and Al Gore who want to get people like you all worked up over nothing, and make plenty money of money selling their scary books to people like you. Suzuki, Gore and Leo Decrapio own big gas guzzling vehicles, own several homes between them, and fly private jets all over the world to go preach their lies and bs to the fools who will go listen to them. They will never practice what they preach. If they did they would not be living their lifestyles of the rich and famous anymore. In most cases, experts will say anything that the ones that are paying them want them to say. That is a fact of life. ;)

NOPE? You still have not answered my question, and I know that you never will because you cannot provide anything that would indicate to me that their is a real and true climate change fiasco going on here on earth, and that the world will come to an end in 12 years. I have asked you to point out something to me that would indicate that we are in some kind of climate change fiasco, but yet you refuse to provide me with anything that would and could be of concern to me? No one here will do that also which tells me that they are all just talk and no walk.

There will always be climate change happening here on earth. But what is happening is all just naturally occouring climate change which has been going on for millions of years. It could mean nothing or it could mean something. Who the hell knows. Relax, go take a Valium pill. It will help to control those jitters that you appear to have about climate change and the world coming to an end in twelve years. Just a suggestion from DR. Taxme.  :)

Here is something for you and your great fear of what appears to me to be nothing more than scary climate change stories.

1. Awhile back, during a United Nations conference being held somewhere on earth, the UN used 100'S of diesel fuel heaters, and many light towers at an anti-fossil fuel at that anti-fossil fuel conference. Now that is what I would say is adding more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, and being quite hypocritical, wouldn't you say?

2. Canada sent 156 delegates to a climate change conference in Madrid. That is a pretty big number of delegates to be sending to a climate change conference. Was this conference supposed to last for a year? I wonder what the bill was for sending all those people on a holiday to that conference? No doubt several millions of Canadian tax dollars went down the drain on that one. I wonder how much fossil fuels did they use to get to the conference , and then use to get back home?

I bet that you do not care about that anyway, right? It was all done for a good cause, right? It's amazing to me to believe that there can be this many brainwashed fools out there who cannot see the nonsense behind all of this climate change bull chit. But if there is something to worry about over climate change, then give me something, will you? No one else is able too. ;)

Yup, they sure are a lot of climate change dead horses lying around here alright, mate. Lol.

Trump is not going nuts, nor will I, over all of this so called climate change fiasco that is about to be unleashed onto earth as so many here, and in the rest of the world are believing will happen. We all know that climate change on earth happens every day, and this has been happening for millions of years. But it will not cause the world to come to an end. The world has gone thru plenty of weather and geological related changes over millions of years, and yet life has survived all of those changes. So relax, the world is not going to come to an end in twelve years. Geez, some people's kids.
