cannuck
https://thestarphoenix.com/news/local-news/heavy-smoke-from-train-derailment-stops-highway-16-traffic I am certain that the average anti-pipeline demonstration is nothing but a mindless, knee-jerk reaction to some media sponsored campaign of taking advantage of their ignorance, but they have once again scored a direct hit on Canada with a major crude derailment. FORTUNATELY, it happened between towns this time. What these idiots do not seem to comprehend is that pipelines have an extremely good record for public safety and environmental impact, and one that with modern technology can be improved even further (acoustic signature monitoring for physical threats and initiation of leakage). Railroads have a terrible safety record, just not something that the media is being bribed to highlight. Following Lac Megantic, Canada upped the standard of design of the former "111" rail tankers to a new level, and they are now somewhat safer, but the people who narrowly missed being roasted in rural SK yesterday probably don't see it as much comfort. What the current version of whatever this "climate change" movement might be, it is totally ignorant of the fact that petroleum in a carbon fuel based society is going to be around for a very long time, and if you block its transport by safe means, it will get transported by less safe means. Rail lines also run THROUGH most towns and cities along their way (since that is why the towns and cities came to exist - as nodes along our transportation networks) whereas pipelines are normally routed around (with obvious feed into cities for natural gas network). When will Canadians pull their collective head out of their ass and THINK for a change (thus, of course, not re-elect complete idiots)?? Maybe when conservatives figure out how to turn things on their head by taking credit for raising the alarm about climate change and finding a way to blame lefties for causing it. So what if pipelines are safer than rail. It's the fossil fuels they're carrying that's at issue. The problem is that they're not being left in the ground. In any case, with the new awareness dawning on conservatives that trade to China should be tied to human rights why the rush to get oil to tidewater? Dougie93
Keep the oil in the ground, break the Canadian economy, the only way to constrain the government is for it to go bankrupt.

Rue
Its possible to have a safe pipeline. The two are not impossible. I also I prefer trees to people. They are not as sappy and they have established good roots in this country. They provide homes for many, shelter in time of need and a place where dogs can express themselves.

Read the writing on the wall: NOBODY is going to stop using oil until there is actually a viable replacement - and that is still a very long way off. So, whether you like it or not, oil is going to be shipped, 15 or so million barrels a day. So ship it safely is what an intelligent answer would be. Barking at the moon is kind of silly. Burning down innocent people's homes, towns or even just their farm fields is idiotic (and oh so Liberal). Maybe thats is what should happen, stop taking oil out of the ground ,stop importing it, stop producing it just for a month....and whom ever is left alive in the country can turn the taps back on, betcha there would be no whining then of course we could always burn tree huggers to keep warm, their full of mostly shit and hot air, so they burn fast... .
Dougie93
Canada is the only country in the world destroying its own petroleum industry, this is only Canada's problem, the rest of the world simply rolls on without silly Canadians. cannuck
their production is WAY down because the government got rid of all of the non-party people in PDVSA, thus their exports are in the toilet and refineries don't have the cash to do maintenance, and nobody there who can, so terrible fuel shortages. You can't even get a valid Q&Q cargo survey since they can't pay the independents and the PDVSA labs have no reagents and little working analytical equipment. Who ever is telling you they have no problems hasn't got a frigging clue. https://www.forbes.com/sites/rrapier/2019/01/29/charting-the-decline-of-venezuelas-oil-industry/#4ded89e74ecd
Dougie93
None the less, Venezuela is actually doing better than Canada on gross oil revenue, Venezuela is getting $53 USD for a barrel of its oil compared to only $41 USD for Canadian.
