Yes, we're familiar with the hate.  For the record, I have never heard a Torontonian honestly disparage another Canadian city.

I have many, many times.  They think every other Canadian city is boring.

They don't much talk about other cities because they don't care.

Anyways, not sure how much more rail Toronto needs, they have subway end to end from north, south, east, and west.  For outside Toronto, they have Go Trains reaching Barrie to the north, Hamilton and kitchener to the west, Niagara Falls to the south, and Oshawa to the east, plus trains going to the airport.  Plus street cars downtown.

Forget subways. Why can't we build a Maglev from Markham to Brampton? I want my MAGLEV!!!!!!! This thing goes 600 kilometers per hour. We could reach Brampton in 5 minutes.

Nobody from Markham wants to go to Brampton and vice versa.  The Chinese don't want to mix with the browns and vice versa.

Seems to me you have an outside-416 focus.  If so, your observations are a little more marginal.

Looks like someone has a new patronizing catch phrase !

I don't understand why you have heard many disparaging things about Canadian cities outside Toronto, and I haven't.  The only reason that comes to mind is maybe because I live downtown and you live in someplace like Brampton or equally shitty.

Ain't nothing wrong with living in the 6ix, so long as you are there to make money and find a mate.

Once you make your money and find your mate,  you should get out, take the money and the woman, and run to the country, that's the only way to take your profits.

If you don't own your own business or aren't otherwise making a lot of money in Toronto you're a darned fool to live there.

Unless you're young.  There's lots of things to do in the city, mostly just downtown, so spend a few years there and try all the food and entertainment then GTFO.  Then go to a smaller city where you don't have to work until you're 95 to pay off your house, you have clean air and nature, gangs and drugs aren't as rampant, and it doesn't smell like sewer, car exhaust, and marijuana literally everywhere.  And people don't drive like d*cks.

Exactly.  Make money and/or meet a girl to marry from the massive available pool.

After that though, don't stick around, find a nice place to settle down in a more affordable and livable place.

You're gonna get old before you know it, at which point Toronto is boring and basically just a pain in the ass.

My property here would cost millions in Toronto, my lifestyle would be reduced by trying to live like this in Toronto, and I'm actually reasonably wealthy.

Out here,  I don't need transit, I can drive everywhere, there's always parking, and I have a two car garage, with two cars to go in it, because I'm not house poor.

They actually DO have environmental regulations, and compared with the incredibly bloated wages of Canada, they do get paid less, but after joining the rest of the world in trade some 30 odd years ago, Chinese workers are earning a LOT more money, and increasing each and every year.  The big differences are that when the government of China plans something, they will devote whatever resources are necessary to carry it out, and quickly and the productivity of typical Chinese workers is immense - mostly driven the simple fact that they are far better off now than in the past, and with hard work, expect to better of again in the future.  In China, work is not a dirty word.

Our problem is more to do with wealth distribution and re-distribution, as we no longer do much to create any wealth.  We can't pay the bills because the growth we see in economic numbers are largely speculative gains - that only represent wealth being re-distributed.  Hogtown has gridlock of a lot of people rushing into downtown to do little or nothing productive.  When you are paying milions of people to drive in endless circles to create no wealth, and paying them enough to afford bloated million dollar housing prices, you have no money left over to fund Main Street (i.e. real business) and infrastructure.

That’s incorrect.

what is?

Most of it.  But especially environmental regulations.  They do have some, but they’re much more lax.

No different from Kalifornication of 50 years ago.  EVERY nation develops by exploiting resources and the environment, and China is no exception.  The real difference is that things that took decades here happen in a few years there.  Their environmental legislation and regulation has come a very long way over the last few years, and actual enforcement is stepping up quite quickly.  EVERYONE in Beijing is painfully aware of how serious the problem is (exacerbated by the rapid pace of economic growth that needed energy NOW and was met by burning coal - as it was what was avaialble and cheap at the time...just as we did here.
