Huge worries about Québec's future

Recommended Posts

This thread is a tad different from the other ones on this forum, as most of you are most aware of Ontarian, Albertan, BC, SK politics than I am.

I don't know what you guys feel about what's happening in your provinces, but in Québec, we're going through a phase which I find disturbing, politically wise.

In Québec, we had two traditional parties who shared power since about 1976, the PQ and PLQ. PQ is a separatist party while PLQ is a federalist party. Things changed last elections in Québec with the election of François Legault (center right wing nationalist) who founded the CAQ party, while the PLQ and the PQ had their worse showing in decades, if not ever. That does not worry me. But there is a party, called QS, which stands for Québec Solidaire or Solidary Quebec when translated roughly from French to English, is an extreme leftist party, even when it comes to Québec province standards. This party had a great showing compared to its standards, and have MPs with great exposure from Radio-Canada (CBC in French), extremely flattering, extremely kind questioning by journalists in press conferences, have a huge web presence among Instagram and other vein celebrities on the Web. These losers, I swear, are taking over our political and activist institutions at the same time. Yesterday, the leader of the Women Federation activist group in Québec, hugely influential, called for vasectomy on all men aged 18 years old or less. The leftistm extremism in Québec is becoming more and more acceptable by the day. The leader is tied to QS ideologically, a clear supporter of the ideology this party adopted. QS is dangerous become it's gaining respectability, despite it being full retardedly extremist. Its program is a full one socialist green style state, with open borders and full welfare for everyone. Who pays the bill? The pesky rich. Who will leave the province ASAP if they get power. QS is currently sitting as third opposition of the Parliament of Québec, and I'm deeply worried.

The french in Quebec are clueless as to how to run a province and government properly. Quebec governments have always been corrupt and liberal and socialist. That will never change. This is the reason why there still are and have been so many political party's popping up all the time in Quebec. No one in Quebec knows what the hell they want. What the french are very good at though is drinking beer and partying. That is pretty much priority number one. Pretty much 40% of the population are for separatism, and if it did ever happen, I do not know how the french would survive in their own french pea  soup creation nation that they will be mixing and stirring up. Personally, I cannot wait for Quebec to separate. Peace at last. :D

Quebec is the cancerous big toe on the foot of Canada.  Cut that toe off, and the rest of foot becomes healthy and active. Canada could run without Quebec. Instead we cripple along with our bulbous, self important, cancerous toe.

Realistically, Quebec contributes nothing to the welfare/well being of Canada.

Endless bitching, endless hand-outs, endless gasbag threats of leaving, endless . . . . .

Drinking beer and partying...lol...  that was what Lieutenant-Colonel George Monro said before his defeat against the french.

You have a pretty bad unfounded (as usual) opinion of the french canadians and I bet you re-read yourself 3 times to make sure your hatred was clear enough.  Your forum mate Nefarious-goes-banana added a layer... because there is never enough Quebec bashing in this land of open mind people. I won't put my cancered toe into that torrent. Instead, I will reply to QOC who seems panicking about QS.

QOC is not wrong and I moreless share his view but, from a different angle. It pleases alot the establishment to see the greens, separtists and leftists being divided and that is the only reason why the SRC-CBC and the Desmarais' medias are giving such exposure to that party. I think QS will never, ever going to win an election, nor even be the opposition party. They sealed their future real bad in the last election and after. The best expression I could use to describ them is, Useful Idiots. An expression often used to describ people having a position and doing anything that leads to the exact opposite results. They are the worst separatists ever, they are behaving like if the religions are leading them, they have no clue how the economy works and they sum up the greatest amount of falacies of all canadian political parties combined. I am a left sovereignist very concerned by the environment and I consider them as enemies. The more I hear them, the more I get disgusted.

I might not afraid to see them winning an election, but I ma very concerned by the damages they are doing by influencing all those young idealists following the trend. I see nothing good to get from that.

I was born and raised in Quebec so I know a hell of a lot about how the french like to play and think. None of them ever impressed me at all while I was growing up in Montreal. The ones that I knew and hung around with did like to drink and party and eventually started to despise the Anglophones in Quebec. Their hatred towards Anglos was starting to show. This is why I left Montreal. The french hatred towards the English was starting to get unbearable to have to live with. They hated me, an Anglophone. So I packed my bags and left Montreal to the separatists and I have never regretted it one bit since. I live in BC now and will never leave. Quebec can keep it's snow and cold and it's humidity in the summer time.  Today the separatists and the non separatists have still no idea as to how to run a province. If they did then the rest of Canada would not be having to subsidize them all the time. The ordinary Quebecker has no clue as to how to make money,  just the corrupt ones like Lavilin/Demarais and the rest of the corrupt politicians on Quebec.

I just wish that some Quebec french party would win an election in Quebec and take Quebec out of Canada. That is the future that I want to see for Quebec. The rest of Canada cannot afford to feed and board Quebec anymore. It's thanks to Quebec that the rest of Canada is just about bankrupt with all of those liberal/socialist french programs and agendas that have done nothing good for the rest of Canada one bit. If you can tell me something that Quebec has given to the rest of Canada that was beneficial to the ROC  well please show me.

The rest of Canada needs to get the hell out of Quebec. Works for me. :D

Don't stop there, the rest of Canada needs to get the hell out of Canada, Australia and New Zealand are not in Confederation with each other, there is no reason for Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia to be neither, and it will all work smoother if we are not in Confederation, Confederation being the source of dysfunction in the land, Quebec goes first, the rest shall follow them out, when the rest see that Quebec being out is not the sky falling.

And this really is between us in Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia and Quebec, Prince Edward Island may not like it, but you know what?  F*ck Prince Edward Island,  Prince Edward Island being a province, is absurd, you could fit them all into Etobicoke and not even notice.

So you got an exhausitve sample.  Few guys drinkers mad at you because you are english is more than enough to juge the whole nation in that basis, eh? Sure!

Where I live, the quantity of anglos is around 40%. in the hockey or soccer team of my son, the anglo  kids percentage is approximatly the same. The relation of the french and anglos are very friendly. No animosity, no mistrust. Our sons play together and we cheer for the same team. All the anglos have a sincere respect of the french language and they always choose to speak to me in french, except there is something specific they are not sure how to translate. I often return the favor by using english sometimes. Your own personal experience does not weight much in the balance. The actual reality is far from what you think of. Neverthenless, if you left in the 70's, I do beleive you that you might not feel welcome in your own birth place. At that time, the injustice toward the french was major. The french had all the reasons in the world to hate the english. But the situation has changed alot in 50 years. Now the french are respected and seen as equal to english people, unlike back then where the french were still seen as second class citizen by the anglos. Of course, there are still some few whinners playing the bash french Quebec like if your life depends on it. But they are not the majority and are rather just few. Although I do not deny that you may have that experience in the past, just the fact that you do not bother about what wrongs your "kind" did to make them mad at anglos, is one of the many justifications itself that make a point against you. When I compare the relation of the french and english today, with the time of my dad and my grand father, I see a huge improvement. Of course, there are still alot like you that entertain hatred without scrupules. But although you guys are very loud, your number diminishes with the years.

The fun part about how you describ the french and Quebec, is that you put so much hatred and exaggeration,  that you totally discredit yourself. At best, you only please the people as as you. I am sure you are a nice person in real life and you are totally capable to be smart and open. You just make the choice to avoid it.  I guess it's like smoking. You did entertained for so long those lies and hatred that it is too difficult to stop. Even when you can't avoid the truth. We should try to invent a "stop-the-hatred" patch. :D

I am a sovereignist, so of course, I do not have a problem with your opinion of splitting Canada. But if Canada changes its dynamic and respect a great level of autonomy to Quebec, I do not have a problem to stay in Canada. You cannot blame the seperatists to be the one that milk Canada. They are the ones who want to leave. If you think the exit of Québec will solve any of your problems, you are living in a fairy tale riding a unicorn in your old town roads. The very same problems will continue as usual. Except this time you will have to blame someone else than Quebec.

The reason why I still consider the possibility to find brainstorm on a different union despite I am sovereignist, is because I see how it goes in the international relations and I think both the ROC and QC still have a common mutual interest to get along. You think the federal drags too much from you for what you get in return? No problem. Stop whinning and accept the decentralization requested by Quebec instead of supporting the usual coward politicians you send there that always back stab us. The immaturity of the conservative westerners is annoying and desapointing. Your behavior is childish, yet you think you are a superior race over those poor beer drinkers. If only you knew how small you look like when you do that. But I guess you do not mind. Your interests lies in the good old nostalgia where english and french were fighting against another to be the king of the hill.

I agree that the french in the past were always treated as second class citizen's in Quebec. But now things have reversed and it is the Anglophones in Quebec that are treated as second class citizen's. The Anglophones of Quebec are forced to accept that the Anglos can still live in Quebec but their opinions and points of views are not welcomed. Whenever the Anglphones ask for equal rights they are denied those rights. The English language will never be on par with french in Quebec. French is the official language in Quebec. No province has the right to declare such action as Canada is supposed to be a bilingual country. The french in Quebec get away with their bigoted and intolerance and hatred towards the Anglophones in Quebec because of our Anglo politicians outside Quebec and the Anglo media who have turned traitor on the English in Quebec. Try denying the rights of some french speaking person outside of Quebec their french rights and watch the shit hit the fan by the french politicians and the french media of Quebec along with our own Anglo politicians and the Anglo media traitors. They will shout that this is showing outright bigotry and intolerance and hatred towards a french person in Canada. Bloody hypocrites.

When bilingualism was enacted Quebec pretty much said no to that idea. But it became law and all of the rest of Canada was considered bilingual while Quebec eventually decided to go unilingual french only. This was a kick in the ass by the french in Quebec towards the English in the ROC. The rest of Canada kissed their french azzes and accepted bilingulism. Where did that get the ROC?  A french only Quebec. Over 40% of the french in Quebec are separatists. I wish that number would go to 60%. Goodbye Quebec.

If the french felt so hard done by the English then why did they not go bilingual and say that everything done in Quebec must be bilingual. The french language is now saved and preserved. But they did not. It was revenge time against the English of Quebec. It was said that over 500, 000 Anglophones left Quebec after the separatists took power in Quebec. The french cheered and said that now we can buy all their Anglo homes in Westmount. Very funny. In Ottawa a french person has a better chance of getting a good job in the federal government because most french speak pretty good English where the English outside of Quebec do not speak french all that well. A big win for the french and a big loss for the English. And yet the french still whine and cry about how hard they are being done by in English Canada. Give me a break. What a joke being played on the Anglos of course. So don't give me your sob story about the poor old french speaking people in Quebec. They have their french only separation already in effect. All they are waiting for now is to make it official thru an election. Quebec separation cannot come soon enough for me and the many other Anglophones that have had enough of Quebec pretty much controlling the rest of Canada. :(

:D I would be pleased to ease your pain and seperate Quebec from Canada. But I your suffering is not really a concern for me right now. Although I do not like the actual federal system, I think something useful for all can be saved. And as I said, and you confirm it once again with this post, even if Québec goes, you will still blame Québec for all your problems for several decades to come again.

Anglos in Quebec are not treated as second class citizen and they DO NOT feel like it either. That is a construction of your mind. You are doing your drama queen about the predominence of french over english on the signs, but english language is still used and no one are feeling bad about it, because the facts place the anglos, even in Quebec, in much better position than the french. Take the ratio of english hospitals and schools for its population. Not only the anglos have nothing to complain about it, they are one of the best treated minority in the world. If english Canada would give the french outside Quebec the same ratio, the french language would thrive like never before instead of going down. How many french hospitals? The only one I remember of is Montfort. In NB, where the number of french and english is the closiest, there is a system for the english only, and there is a system bilingual. No system for french only.  The number of french schools are limited to the opinion of anglos about what it is worth for it. Where the number justifies... the english opinion. So the french needs to use Supreme Court to open schools. With such disrespect about the french minority, what difference does it make that both languages are used on the cereal box? Keeping french alive is a struggle in many places in Canada because the french have to fight for very basic things that are protected by the rights, but not respected by the authorities.

There is a rule that gives an advantage to the bilingual people and since the francos learn english, unlike the anglos about french, then they have an advantage over anglos. But look at your narrowed mindset. Instead of being smart and blame your own educational system to teach you basic french, and therefore, have the asset of speaking both official languages, you are on the contrary blaming the federal to hire people capable to serve its own citizens in both languages. Your mindset makes you think that it is your right to be unilingual and you should be hired at the cost of avoiding services to your own fellow citizens.  On top of that, you have been raised in Quebec, in the english system, when the language rules were not created or not yet efficient. You, alone, are a good reason of why Quebec needs those rules and why english Canada should give a better system to its own citizens. For every single whinner like you, there are hundred others who are asking a better teaching of french language. Call them ass kissers if you want, I bet their opinion about you is not laudatory either. The bilingual federal requirement is not a loss for the anglos. The weak french teaching in their education system, that is a great loss.

Recent studies revealed that bilingual people have a great advantage over the unilingual. The brain stay sharp longer and is less likely to develop Alzheimer. See, even the science has no pity for you. B)

It has been Quebec that has been pretty much running and controlling this country for centuries now. I as an Anglophone will always blame Quebec for the rest of Canada's troubles. Just about every Prime Minister of Canada in the last couple of centuries have been pretty much all from Quebec. And the french say that the English hate the french. Really? No one in the rest of Canada ever asked for bilingualism, multiculturalism, metric, foreign aid, massive third world immigration or legalizing same sex marriage. All of those french leftist liberal programs and agendas were all forced on the ROC by french Quebec by the likes of old man Trudeau. Quebec has done nothing to help try to make Canada great. Instead the french have made Canada not so great and pretty much bankrupt with their constant useless french socialist programs and agendas that have only helped make special interest minority groups go wild with glee to see all their many useless and costly and expensive pet peeves I mentioned above come to pass. The rest of Canada has always been stupid enough to allow themselves to be controlled by a people who pretty much despise them. The sad part is that the Anglophones never seem to learn from their past mistakes. They just keep adding to those mistakes by allowing Quebec to run and ruin and rule over the ROC. Like I said already, The ROC needs to get out and away from Quebec's power and control over Canada.

Indeed, New Brunswick is a bilingual province and so is Ontario. Only Ontario has not yet declared itself officially bilingual as of yet but it will happen one of these days for sure. And just about everything the Ontario government puts pen to paper toO is pretty much all bilingual. So don't tell me that the french are being hard done by in provinces like English speaking Ontario and New Brunswick. Cross the border from Quebec into Ontario or New Brunswick all the traffic highway signs are pretty much all in English and french. Cross the border from Ontario or New Brunswick into Quebec and all the highway traffic signs are in french only. Quebec is not playing fair here. You cannot not deny that? The Anglophones have pretty much gone overboard to try and please Quebec but yet they treated the Anglos like second class citizen's. When the highway signs go bilingual in Quebec than I will say that the french are now treating the Anglos equally and on an even scale. As much as you want to try and make Quebec look like they love having the Anglos around but in reality behind the Anglos backs they no doubt are saying to all the Anglos of Quebec to go to hell. Approx. 40% of the french in Quebec are separatists. They want English banned and gone, period. Maybe you are not one of them Anglo haters but there are plenty of french people that are. The English are trying to get along with Quebec. It is Quebec that is not trying to get along with the ROC.

Look we can go on and on about Quebec but my point has been made and I am sticking to everything that I have said here as true. Quebec does not want to have anything to do with the English language or with English Canada. The best way for us to get along is for Quebec to separate. Then Quebec can be officially a french speaking province or state or whatever and the rest of Canada can now become officially an English speaking country. We can all still be friends. Works for me. :)

Saying that Quebec rules Canada because guys like Chretien and Trudeau are from Quebec, it is like saying Austria ruled the Nazi Germany because Hitler was born in Austria. Quebec never liked Chretien and those voting for him were either english Quebecers or very federalist francos. Same for Trudeau that is considered the greatest traitor in our history. It would be more appropriate to say they are Ontario's Quebec puppets. Since Ontario use to elect them, while they were very unpopular here. Did you forget about the BQ era that started to diminish only after the liberals got beaten by the conservatives. Quebec as always be against multiculturalism, so do not blame us for that. Quebec also never had the intention to match the Ontario's ambitions of importing immigrants, so calm down on that as well. The problem you get when you do such assertions, is you totally discredit yourself. It does not pass the test of facts. So basically, you take whatever you think goes wrong and you blame it on Quebec, even if nothing neither in history books or media records can back that up. How can you be taken seriously after that?

NB is not bilingual. It has the smallest difference between the number of french and english speaking people. That does not make them bilingual. By percentage, the francos in Quebec are more bilingual than the anglos in NB. Even when we combine both english and french, Quebec still beats NB in the number or percentage of bilingual people by a huge margin. Quebec is the most bilingual province. Having "ch" and "rd" on road signs like "ch. Young rd", is not enough to pretend the province is bilingual. If I try to live a french life in Toronto, I will never come close to get what an anglo gets in Montréal. Ontario prints bilingual documents. So does Quebec. Poor you! It is very typical. You are not complaining of not being capable to receive services in english, you are complaining because your fellow french canadians receive the bare minimum services in french. I can imagine you talking to your psy and spit your frustration of the fail of Lord Durham's project to totally assimilate the french.

So you get all itchy because the highway has french only signs. Ok, I will make it up to you. You give the french outside Quebec the very same priviledges the anglos get in Quebec and I will turn our signs bilingual. I promise! Your call! The total of complaints from non french or english speaking people visiting Quebec is... 0. But eh, whatever makes you happy.

40% of the french are separatists? I do not know today but, in 1995, it was 60%. I never wanted english being banned or such. I am actually speaking to you in english and I am not going to take a shower to wash this dirty sound polluting my ears. What you are doing is, projection. You think that we are as childish haters like you. Oh we probably have few individuals like that but, they are marginals. Just like you are in the english Canada.

Your last paragraph is so funny that I have nothing to add. It clearly shows what you think of Quebec and your political myopia. Quebec is does not want to have anything to do with english language. Yeah right, of course!

The french in the federal government in Ottawa do run the rest of Canada and have been doing so since old man comrade Trudeau became the commie dictator of Canada. Look what bilingualism has got Canada. A bilingual Canada and a french language speaking only Quebec. It is long overdue for an English speaking province outside Quebec to declare English as their official language. But I can just see the french in Quebec and the English speaking politicians in Ottawa and the English speaking media go bonkers on that one. This is being anti-Quebec they will say. But it is alright for those wimps to be okay with Quebec going officially french only. The Anglophone traitors know as to who's butt they need to kiss.

Ontario and New Brunswick have bilingual highway traffic signs and Quebec does not. Why? I would say that they are anti-English traffic signs. Having highway traffic signs in English is not going to hurt the french or will make the french language all of a sudden disappear. The rest of Canada could go highway traffic sign bilingual and I will guarantee you that the traffic highway signs in Quebec will still stay in french only. You know that and I know that as fact. You have the English tourists coming from the rest of Canada and America and Quebec cannot be even decent about posting their highway traffic signs in English also. Come on, who are you really trying to kid here? The 40% separatists of Quebec hate the English language and they run the province. Thousands of them work for the provincial government where Anglophones have a very tough time trying to get a job with the Quebec provincial government. The Anglos are not wanted in the provincial government. Anyway, enough said. I said my five cents worth. You believe what you want to believe and so will I. We must both agree to disagree. Goodbye to you for now on this topic. :)

Of course we desagree and we both knew we would not convince the other one to adopt the same opinion. I was just curious to see how you think and what is the base of the opinion you  forged and what are your considerations. You have a very high propensity to assert and almost no interest to demonstrate. That is also another curiosity for me. Observation I am doing while drinking my beer, because this all I am capable to do, of course. ;) I think when I was 20, I could have been offended by what you say. Today I am rather amused by it because after all, you express your opinion very candidly.

One last question to satisfy my curiosity. You were raised in Quebec. How is your french language level?

My french is good enough to get by? I can pretty much understand as to what is being said, I just cannot carry on a conversation about world politics or something like that. No swearing at me now. Swear words I understand. Tabernacle.

You always write very well. Your obvious awareness of Quebec politics I enjoy. I appreciate your contributions. I may not always agree with them but I appreciate your take. It sounds always a bit more right wing then its intended to be. I think your above comments could be construed as a bit alarmist and right wing as well but I get your point and I do not think they are-I think you are in my humble opinion accurate..

I will say this. Quebec as you are most aware genuinely is unique politically.

That said conventional separatism which dominated Quebec politics now in a global world  of shrinking borders and mass migration of populations of poor moving towards the rich has created a new sense of insecurity but its an insecurity shared by many first world populations not just Quebecois and so we see a morphing of ideologies that are left and right mixing into one another based on fear of cultural assimilation by incoming  economic migrants all over the lst world. It creates an ideology where extreme right and left views mix and I think what you are seeing in Quebec is a mix of this kind of ideology that is extreme left and right at the same time making things confusing as to whose extremist views get most prominence.

Take for example that vasectomy nonsense- could a lot of that is  based on wanting to control specific groups seen to be having more children than other groups? Quebecois have not been reproducing as you  know if you look at the demographic stats. You think in that dialogue about vasectomies there might be a fear that Muslim migrants are coming to Quebec with large families that will outnumber Purelaines? That's a fear in many countries of Europe. So is that leftist ideology or right wing ideology about threats to racial or ethnic  purity? What exactly is it?

So I get your point but call me naïve I think Quebecers always seem in the end to deal with their extremism. Say what you want Levesque, Lesage, Daniel Johnson Jr., Charest,  Bourassa,  Bouchard, was their really a difference in what they did other than their script with how to deal with Ottawa which even then was not that different? Am I wrong to see they all pretty much were middle of the roaders trying to balance economy with social services and in all the ups and downs Quebec still comes back tot he same kind of leader?

Thank you Rue, you're always very respectful and well thought.

The thing is, QS, which I denounce vigorously,  isn't a Party that's extreme on Identity. That's the main component that differentiates this Post 2018 era of Québec Politics and the years before.

QS, who are on the extreme left, and I'm serious they're borderline communists, changed the societal debate -whether Québec should stay in Canada- to whether we want a Socialist or Capitalist Society.

It all comes to down to Spring 2012 students' riots lead by communist Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois (who's now the co-leader with Manon Mustache Massé of Québec Solidaire), a youngster who called for violence and civil disobedience, never condemned attacks on offices and beat downs in the street of those opposed to the Students riots. He's also friends with the black block, Antifa, who he used to instill terror inside universities and in the streets. After the riots, CBC in French (Radio-Canada) gave this SOB a frigging tribune. I kid you not.

It's like, let's say, Tommy Robinson would get a job on the BBC after he lead riots of skinheads in downtown London for 3 months straight.

Let's say now that Tommy Robinson is now the co-leader of the third party of Britain. Not a great thing for Britain, wouldn't it be?

The story is about two policemen, one from Québec, one from Ontario, that have to work together to solve a murder case. Both men are the cliché of their respective province. The Quebec cop is sloppy, always borderline in his work, the Ontarian is well dressed, very stuckup, too much by the rule...  At one point, the english cop ask the french cop about his swearing and he the meaning. So he teaches him all the words and combinations you can do. While he is explain this to the english cop, he is also beating up the ass of a bandit that is also swearing. The movie is bilingual with subitles, but I think they did both versions for 20% of the scenes. It reduces the quantity of subtitles. So you can rent the english version and 35% of the movie will have french. It's the same for the french version. I recommand it to you. The story itself is so so, but the dynamic of the two men is very funny.

There is also a Bon Cop Bad Cop 2, that happen many years later and part of the movie is in USA. So the english cop thought he would have an advantage over his Quebec colleague, but it turns out that despite the language, when he crosses the border, he is no longer home. :D

Do not worry, the movie does not promote multiculturalism. ;)

Canada's multicultural movie has been promoting multiculturalism and it has been around and has been playing for decades now. I hate that movie and I am very tired of having to watch it over and over again. :D  Maybe one day I will try to watch it. I hate movies with subtitles. It is hard to try and keep up with and read as to what is being said and to watch the movie at the same time. I can only do one or the other but not both. I miss most of the action or the words. Having subtitles in movies is dumb unless one can read and watch the movie at the same time like multitask. Lol.

It is refreshing to see/read some of what is going on in Quebec politics.  The national media is so Toronto-centric that Montreal is only grudgingly admitted as being part of Canada.  We are,  though, cut off from our French bretheren by the very francophone extremism that DOES now exist within the province.  QOC's post is one of those rare, and to me most welcome attempts to reach across the Ottawa river past the Rideau Canal.  Because of the language barrier, I see more of and know far more about local politics in LA or Boston than Montreal, and that to me is a failure of Canada as a nation.

One of the BIG reasons for the rift, though, is the development of the institutions of the Government of Canada to pander to Quebec - at the expense of the ROC.   It is these misguided efforts to "hold Canada together" that are the greatest element of what may eventually tear it apart.  In a lifetime of involvement with Federal politics and bureaucrats in Canada and its embassies around the world, I am painfully aware of just how extreme that sentiment and effort...let me just call it the Federal drive to put "Quebec of Canada" in virtually everything that wears very thin my tolerance for the federation.

Quebec seems susceptible to a sharp left movement in its politics mostly because it IS organized to exist largely as a dependent state.  Quebec business turns to Ottawa for endless "special privilege" as does the province itself - and the ROC validates this by continuing to grant such special privileges to Quebec of the ROC.  Take a close look how interprovincial trade protectionism exists within la belle province, and many, many other circumstances and one can see that the path to power in the province is to be in political spheres of influence.  When government is the master instead of the servant, you will see that movements want and NEED to be in political power to validate and execute their agenda.

With due respect Cannuck we also have to remember the constitution was created to allow Quebec to be distinct. It was deliberate so some of this built in dymanic or tension is deliberate and meant to happen. The belief was the two identities through dynamic tension (on-going tension) would like say labour negotiations between management and unions create a synthesis of the two opposites creating an ever changing fresh identity. as opposed to two stagnated identities not feeling any need to change. So for sure we have pandering with Quebec but in fairness there  is regional pandering to the Atlantic provinces and at certain times the West and Ontario although not lately. To be honest its BC that gets the real tale end so BC created an economy based on Chinese and Indian immigration investment.

Alberta being so dependent on oil sands revenue was and is screwed by Quebec and BC as much as it is the feds. Sask and Manitoba with due respect are small agrarian economies and more screwed by world market conditions on potash, wheat, barley, rapeseed. Rapeseed was our no.1 export and  Trudeau phacked that up good with China the no. 1 importer. Tar sands oil is dependent on world market prices as well and its the US expanding its extraction of oil in the US that has the most major effect.

Alberta as well needs to diversify its economy. It got too damned dependent on tar sands revenue and all  your eggss in one basket approaches are a weakness of both fed and prov government policies.

Lol.

As I said, there are french and english versions of it, so the number of subtitles are reduced because I agree, it gets annoying to READ a movie. Because I do understand both well, I do not need them. It's not promoting the multiculturalism politics, even if it involves 2 cultures. I am not twisting your arms. lolll Since you know a bit about Quebec and the swears and all the clichés, I thought you would like it. But there is a danger that you might develop more sympathy toward Quebec, so maybe it is better you not watch it. haha!
