Discrimination is wrong! Except when it's right!

Recommended Posts

So says the diversity loving, gender equity loving Liberals of Justin Trudeau. Because it's never wrong to discriminate against straight, white men! They're such horrible people!

The Liberal government of Canada has formulated a new program to which all universities are expected to commit. It is called “Dimensions: Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion.” A “Charter” for “Dimensions” has been distributed to all university presidents, who are urged to sign, endorsing the program for their universities.

...

How are favoured and unfavoured categories of people decided? According to the Charter:

To advance institutional equity, diversity and inclusion, specific, measurable and sustainable actions are needed to counter systemic barriers, explicit and unconscious biases, and inequities. This includes addressing obstacles faced by, but not limited to, women, Indigenous Peoples, persons with disabilities, members of visible minority or racialized groups, and members of LGBTQ2+ communities.

Discrimination is only wrong if it does not fit in with the Trudeau regime's plan...   then something happens like this, and then what to do  when  ' "merit-based" process for appointments has screened out 61.8 per cent of visible-minority candidates as insufficiently qualified, compared to 37.6 per cent of applicants who are not visible minorities.

I can guess what they will do

70% of visible minorities are immigrants, many with poor to weak English or French skills. Few are bilingual (in English and French) and that is usually the top priority for a Liberal government with a Quebec prime minister.

Wrong.

"Although a large proportion of the 7.5 million immigrants reported neither English nor French as their mother tongue, the vast majority (93.2%) of them were able to conduct a conversation in English or French. In other words, 6.8% of immigrants reported being unable to conduct a conversation in either official language."

"On the other hand, half (50.3%) of immigrants in Quebec were able to conduct a conversation in both official languages, in addition to any other languages."

"The proportion of immigrants with knowledge of at least one of Canada’s official languages is high (93.2%) largely because knowledge of English or French is one of the selection criteria for economic immigrants admitted to Canada"

Good for their reporting skills. I don't believe it for a second. Most of the ones I've met were barely able to speak English in an understandable fashion. The notion that in addition to their own language they're suddenly trilingual, when most come from places where both English and French are rare, is laughable.

In addition, 'language skills' encompasses more than being able to order a meal at a restaurant. I can do that in French but I'm not going to get hired for a job which requires French. And it involves more than just speaking. It involves literacy, and we have had numerous studies on the declining economic success of immigrants which pinpointed their lack of language skills as one of the primary causes.

C'mon, it is not Trudeau's fault that he is an idiot. He just don't understand diversity, and he believes inclusivity is diversity

Where exactly did you get this 70% figure from?

More than 68.8% of Canadian visible minority population are foreign-born, 27.7% are children of immigrants. Less than 4% are third-generation or beyond. Less than 3,000 Canadians are third-generation and visible minority and over 75 years old, they are mainly Black Nova Scotians.

It depends on where you draw the line for "able to conduct a conversation".

If you set a vague target like that you could get vastly differing test results.

Actually, the fact that many of the immigrants who settled in Quebec can at least speak French isn't surprising considering many of them came from France's former colonies in  North Africa and  Asia. Hell, years ago I met a Vietnamese dude who was quite fluent in French and he'd only been here for just over a year. And that wasn't even in Quebec. But then there's this. "In other words, 6.8% of immigrants reported being unable to conduct a conversation in either official language."    So if over 93% can conduct a conversation in either official language, then why the constant need for all the people in govt who can speak other languages? And more importantly,  if one of the selection criteria is knowledge of one or the other official language, then there should be 0% of economic migrants who can't speak either official language. I also know from my experience working for Census Canada as quality control personnel that a lot of people don't like to fill out their census forms, immigrants and natural-born Canadians alike. So it's quite possible that the reported numbers could be off as well.

I can tell you what discrimination is.  When you have a completely different set of ruled for one race, like letting First Nation people hunt and fish where they want, however they want with no limits.  Some of them will then turn around and start selling you the fish you could have caught yourself had it not been for the discriminatory rules.

Another form of discrimination will be imposing sanctions against a country; speaking about the whole nation of a country by using only the country's name like "Russia did this or did that".   But hey, this is done by the government so it is Kosher.

You try to discriminate against an Iranian and refuse to serve him coffee citing the international sanctions and see what happens to you.

The short answer — or at least part of it — is the difficulty many immigrants have communicating in English or French. But the complete picture is more nuanced, according to two recent studies from the Canadian Labour Market and Skills Researcher Network.

It turns out that a significant factor is not only whether an immigrant’s mother tongue is English or French, but if not, then how closely related it is to one or the other of Canada’s official languages. For example, immigrants who grow up with a Nordic language, which shares two of four linguistic roots with English, are likely to earn six per cent less than native-born Canadians, whereas the gap widens to 33 per cent for those who speak a dialect of Chinese, which has no common roots with English or French.

http://www.vancouversun.com/life/cayo+canada+needs+teach+immigrants+better+language+skills/10691206/story.html

Immigrants arriving in Canada in recent years are more educated than were immigrants who arrived in the past and are twice as likely as the Canadian-born population to have a university education. However, the evidence shows that despite having high levels of education, the economic performance of immigrants relative to the Canadian-born population has deteriorated. Many immigrants find it difficult to secure well-paying jobs and their earnings tend to be well below those of the Canadian-born population.

Immigrants aged 16 to 65 performed significantly below the average for the Canadian- born population in all four domains. The average prose literacy score for the Canadian-born population corresponded to Level 3 proficiency, while for recent immigrants the average score was at Level 2. Differences in performance between Canadian-born and recent as well as established immigrants were largest for prose literacy and smallest for numeracy.

Immigrants are under-represented in Montreal’s private sector mainly because of poor language skills.

That is one of the main findings of a new study, which says more needs to be done by both businesses and immigrants to achieve better workforce integration.

Your articles and the research do not respond to your opinion: "Many with poor to weak English".

People who have moved to Canada from places where English is not their first language take longer to integrate into a society where English is the first language. Big shocking information.

If you want to talk about performance, let me know how you feel about immigrants who create more jobs than non-immigrants?

Immigrant-owned firms create more net jobs and have higher growth than businesses with owners born in Canada, according to newly-released research.

https://www.ctvnews.ca/canada/immigrant-owned-firms-create-more-jobs-than-those-with-canadian-born-owners-statcan-1.4393134

And, how do you feel about children of immigrants and how they're doing better than whites?

“About 40 per cent or more of second-generation Chinese, South Asians and West Asian or Arabs worked in high-skill occupations, compared with 20 per cent of men and 31 per cent of women among third-plus generation whites,” says their February study, titled Intergenerational Education Mobility and Labour Market Outcomes.
